When I was a kid in Hong Kong, I used to read the English story or article aloud ten times in a row to practise my fluency, and this practice was not bad .

Hi LEP Team, I am an English learner, so I have some problems with my listening skills. To be more specific, the first time I listen to the audio and choose the correct answer, I can't understand the whole context. In order to understand the entire context, I need to read the script after listening, and then listen again. When I listen for the second time, I can understand everything. Should I continue listening without understanding the full context the first time and then read the script and listen again, or is there a better way to practice?
Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience! The method you’re using-listening first, then reading the script, and listening again-is a great approach. Here’s a simplified plan: First Listen: Focus on the main idea, not every word. Use the Script: After listening, check the script to understand new words or phrases. Second Listen: Now listen for details and see how the vocabulary fits in. Shadowing: Try repeating the sentences after hearing them to improve both listening and speaking. Challenge Yourself: Over time, aim to understand more on your first listen. Keep practicing! You’re on the right track, and with time, you’ll improve even more. 😊🌟
Hi) I’d like to read Harry Potter, but my level is B1 and it’s difficult for me to read it. There’re a lot of new words. How should I read it? Thanks!) 🙏🏻
Hi! 😊 That’s awesome that you want to read Harry Potter! Even though it’s challenging at B1, you can still enjoy it by using a few strategies: Read Slowly: Take your time and don’t worry about understanding every word. Use a Dictionary: Look up key words but don’t get stuck on every unfamiliar word-focus on understanding the main idea. Start with an Easier Version: You can try reading a simplified version for your level first. Keep Notes: Write down new words and review them later to build your vocabulary. Enjoy the magical journey! 📚✨
