  • I had a slow leak on my 2008 Cadillac Escalade. This video shows me finding and diagnosing the leak as well as the steps I took to repair the leak. I ended up replacing a gasket on a oil line cooler plug on the oil pan. It has been a couple of weeks now since I changed the gasket and it has completely stopped leaking.

Thanks again for this video. I did the same repair, using the links for the materials. I was able to slide right under the truck without lifting it or removing the tires. I did the repair about 10 days ago and have since taken the truck off-roading as well as driving around town. This repair worked like a charm. Cost was about 13 bucks and maybe an hour of my time. I laid on my back and worked upside down, using a headlamp for light. If I had to do this repair again, I bet it would take 30 minutes only. Thanks for this excellent video!

I have the 6.2L in a GMC Sierra Denali and it’s been leaking oil, I’m praying to God this is the problem and not the main seal. I’ll pop that plate off and check inside for oil tomorrow. Thank you for the video.
It’s leaking more than just a few drops a week though

Just take a look at it and see if you can see where the leak is coming from. The rear main seal leak is very common on these trucks. Hope that it’s just the block off plate like mine was.

Thanks Omar!! Bought a 2001 Yukon XL 3 years ago. Got the big things out of the way first. Kept scratching things of off the "to do" list. Down to the small things, and it was time for the oil cooler block off plate. Two bolts, new gasket and RTV. Probably a 15 minute job. Thanks for supplying the part #, made it easy. So far, nice n dry, no leak.
    thanks

Be careful when putting RTV on that oil cooler cap, any loose or excess RTV might get loose can go into your engine oil gullies and block the oil going to your cam, crank, rockers may end up loosing your engine.

Just did this repair on my 2008 EXT. No question oil was leaking from this oil cooler plug. I replaced it with the aftermarket part. No more leaks from there. But my truck is also for sure leaking from the rear crank seal. With the engine running I can see oil dripping from that round snap in cover on the trans bell housing. I guess now I have to find a shop that can pull the engine. Ugh

    • @OmarsGarage
