5:33 Yes. they did used to offer tea or coffee, for free back in the 70's. Then they introduced these new fangled things, that charged a fortune and tasted like s**t. Automatic drink dispensing machines. Yes.. sadly I'm old enough to remember the old style NHS.
Such a brillianf show. There are 2 Christmas episodes this and the other one they filmed a year later are superb really popular and very famous as Christmas tv repeats. These episodes are on the BBC i Player.
I used to see the actor who played Grouty in the supermarket doing his shopping…nice gentleman. His wife also appeared in Doctor Who as a hospital sister who’d been captured by the zygons
Peter Vaughan, was one of the best character actors of his generation. Harry Grouty was more like a real life underworld godfather and played it perfectly...He was a life long socialist
With most really loved comedy in the UK. There so recognisable you probably could get away with just the sound on some of these comedies. Especially Porridge
tea coffee and sandwiches are supplied, you dont get so much in the waiting room, but once you go through to treatment rooms and that, there is stuff for patients, I was a domestic in the hospital on A&E, back in the 2000's and during and just after covid
If they bring you coffee or tea in the hospital it is code for you are going to have to wait for a very long time. or stay overnight. They don't offer you one if they think they can turn you around quickly.
I have to be honest, I disagree somewhat for what, I hope, is a positive reason. In the episodes, Peter (the actor) projected sitcom villainy, whereas in the 1977 film, opposite essentially the same cast in the same roles, he came across as a genuine and gleeful legbreaker.
Genial Harry Grout is such a great character played perfectly by Peter Vaughan. In the whole series I think there were only two that were miscast. See if you can see who I'm thinking of as you get further into the series.
9:16 Sadly in this day and age. That's why they put ankle monitors on newborn babies. So the alarms go off, when or if somebody tries to steal a baby. What a sad world we live in now. 😞
Don't worry about the text. We watch these so often, we know every frame.
My favourite Xmas special. Watch it every year

Well you remember a world that I dont pal, and i was an adult in the 70s

Unfortunately the very woke BBC cut some great lines from this show these days, most notably one concerning McLaren not knowing his father.

Peter Vaughan could play people you did not want to cross probably better than Donald Pleasance could.
@@stevencarr4002 He's appearing as a cop in The Gold Robbers on Talking Pictures.
So his wife played Sister Lamont? 🤯
@@eddhardy1054 yes

Ahh ok!! Makes sense
Harry Grout was genuinely threatening & sinister.
He definitely appears to be!

I have regular hospital appointments and often get offered tea or coffee. We have a much better health service than Canada.
Oh really? Is that through private though? I’ve never been offered using the NHS
Nooo.. not even in the 70s, were you offered Coffee while waiting in hospital. Its just to fit the storyline
Vidiogudgud 🎉
Don't worry Meghan. The BBC will soon be defunct anyway. Merry Christmas sweetie. XXX
With the writing overlay couldn’t be bothered to watch it just go to TH-cam version
