I really appreciate your videos. How you are making us feel like we are with you assisting and your humor is great. I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year. I hope you and your family are well. Greetings from south east Norway (still waiting for the snow)
For serial number it’s a late model because it’s white and has oval muffler, early ones were tan with round mufflers. And another thing did the hydraulic filters still have relief valve in them when you changed them, because without them oil just goes around filter and get debris in valves.
I'm impressed with you getting the door off the case without breaking glass with my luck if I did that the glass would have broken keep up the great work
Opening up that plate to the valve body is like opening a Christmas present that contains corduroy pants as a kid. Excitement while peeling the wrapping, dread that you’ll have to wear what’s inside!! 🤣👍🍻. Merry Christmas JT and family and fluffy cat.
Yup! A nasty surprise for a Christmas present although not as bad as my son who got the wrong box and opened up a pretty pink dress. "Try it on I said." Not funny, in his opinion. LOL
Glad I found your channel, I bought a 2470 Case when I started farming. It was roached, I heard it said Case, Can't Afford Something Else. I sure couldn't, was glad to see it leave. Good luck! Merry Christmas
Like how nothing fazes you ...that valve body would be a cold shiver down my spine... wishing you 100% sucess as you work your way through the transmission...great watching and looking forward to the next episode 😀
It’s nothing bad that I haven’t seen. Some cleaning and some new parts, she’ll be up and running. It’s the lack of maintenance from people that it’s in the situation it’s in. One doesn’t know what is going on until you “dig” into it.
I like your videos a lot. It's very relatable working within a budget, using whatever tools and means available. Self reliance is way to underrated. Because it frees up ressources to have priorities in life. Self reliance is about having options in life. At times I spoil myself rotten with new tools and equipment - but I get a lot second hand. At times I'm stunned...One of my best buys is a technician bag for some of my tools - I paid 30 USD for it - New it's + 2,000 USD... and it's for the bag without tools. Now it's Christmas - There's a good story about a father telling his son to take his old VW beetle to various places. First the son goes to the pond shop - The best they can do on an old car is 4,000 USD. They he goes to a car dealer . The best they can do is 40,000 USD - if he buys a new car at more than 100,000. Then the son takes the old Beetle to a vintage club - The first guy seeing it offers 140,000 USD right off the bat - bought as seen with no conditions. The son finds it very confusing. Then the father says - I wanted to tell you a lesson about life. You want to be where you're appreciated for what you are - then you get the real value.... The same for your equipment - to a lot it's just old outclapped equipment. You know there's a hidden gem. At times you meet a basket case - luckily you already own it - it's not one of those projects where everything worked when parked... It's always parked for a reason - fully functional isn't one. I sold an old car - I had a real bid - a friend of mine wanted to buy it - I told if he wanted to pay for a professional mechanic to make a quote on the work that needed to be done - he would know what he was getting into. I got the quote and we made a deal in seconds. As soon as I spot the word project... I'm not buying. Buying something parked for years at scrap value - you only lose time and transport. I had a special old Italian luxury moped - it was more temperamental than a pregnant woman - when I eventually got it in perfect working condition. The local council bought it - they've digged up the road and put the signs the wrong way. I had the market value and pictures of the restoration. All my hours were not paid for - but I knew the actual value. I had some ruined clothes and had a pay for treatment. Being honest about the loss the council put in a little extra. Their lawyers adviced just to pay up front - I apparently had the sense to make footage of the scene of the accident. But I've got no recollection of the accident. But I were more devastated about the fact - I had restored the moped with some parts missing on others - It was the final test drive before disassembly getting it ready to paint. The lawyer in the council had just wrecked his historical car - he knew the drill. I was allowed to sell it as parts. Then I bought a special Peugeot moped - it was boring - it never failed. Then I became a basket case and bought a heavily tuned road legal offroad bike - 4800 rpm was idle it would jump right up to 10,800 rpm in a split second. Living in a city it was completely useless - but dang it was fun... It sent me flying a couple of times... That's when my wife took a serious interest in my hobbies - it's was addictive... Addiction is never good for you. It hurt to let it go - but I'm glad I listened to her. Your wife will yap about important things - you don't have a clue about - but you listen - because she cares for you - and she might have a point. It hurts like having to read a manual... But it gets you back on track. Your sense of humour and saying things like they are - has the same effect of getting a grip on reality. It's not always a win.. but you get some hard earned experience and skills while having to part with some hard earned money. But that experience keeps you out of trouble for the most time. Getting to a certain age - you experience dejavu and amnesia at the same time. You remember having forgotten it before, not sure how you ended up in the situation. But you learn to relax - doing the same error twice is understandable. Doing it thrice - you're getting careless... Merry Christmas to you and your family. I were driving my mother in law around last Christmas. She was giving directions... So of course for the sake of spirit of Christmas - I let her when obviously wrong. She 's the best a great mother in law - with a very keen sense of humour. "Why the hell did you do that for..!" I replied - she probably would prefer to be driven like Miss Daisy - instead of being driven like Miss Crazy. A little later I stopped for a teenager completely lost in her phone walking across the street without noticing the traffic.. My mother in law asked why I stopped... I told I didn't want to hit the girl. Of course she replied - "My son is a police officer... He says it's alright to hit them... You'll be given points on your drivers license for delivering a Darwin Award... You've got the nerve pulling a leg on me.. but you haven't got the nerve to hit her... It's priorities my dear.. get your priorities straight!" My wife didn't believe a word of it. I wrote to her brother - he was laughing his heart out... "She can be like that..." He's a police officer... When she's driving him around - she's not always driving by the book. When he complaints "You're an officer - you can tell the other officers what I did... They've got moms too!"
Check the location where the engine and and the transmission bolt together on the left side of the tractor. It should have the serial number stamp on it.
If I lived a little closer to you I'd volunteer my time to give you a little help since I'm retired and love your videos...I've got two older MF tractors..a 1962 65 and a 1962 Super 90..good luck from Mo.
JT, On the propane heater, if you buy a 100 pound (25 gallon) propane tank, you will not have the icing problems. I work for a propane company, there is a reason they ice up, but...why get into science. lol Love the channel man, keep up the good work!
JT watching you climb up that ladder brings back bad memories,Two years ago I was wheeling out a JD 9500 combine on a 12 ft fuber glass ladder , al of sudden heard a crack ,Not good feet on the ladder broke ,and yea next thing I,m on the concrete floor with two cracked ribs ,doing a great job but be careful
Thanks for another great video...my 970 runs n shifts fine but on occasion when i down shift from any of the power shifts it is like i slammed on the brakes...im thinking its something in my valve body. So watching your vids is a great learning leson ..merry Christmas
If the serial number tag is missing on a Case 1070 tractor, you can usually find the serial number stamped on the frame near the transmission crossmember, often on the right side of the tractor, close to the engine area; you may need to clean the area thoroughly to see the stamped numbers clearly. Here are a few other places to look for the serial number if the primary location is not readily visible: Under the seat: Sometimes, a secondary serial number plate may be located beneath the tractor seat. On the rear axle housing: Check the rear axle housing for a stamped serial number. Hope this helps young man, love the channel to say the least? Hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas sir.
Love your videos JT my Dad and I love watching what you get up to no matter the brand (We are diehard Massey but also have one Deutz Fahr). I work as an environmental engineer for a career mostly in cleaning up old factories and planning new roads. Please if you can wear gloves when using break clean and messing with oils. I know its an absolute pain but if you knew the half of whats in those solvents and oils its wild! Much love from Ireland!!!
When we bought a Case 1175, the seat looked the same as what you have. Went to the back forty where my brother had a bunch of old cars and grabbed a bucket seat to put in it. My Dad would keep a block of wood like that in the cab to block up the hitch on some of the equipment.
You will know a lot more when you get into the transmission. I would inspect all of the clutch friction plates. As the tractors get older, and if the proper hydraulic fluid was not always used, it causes the friction material to delaminate and plug up the hydraulic screens, compounding the problem. On another note. If you’re going to put some money in the transmission, I would drop the engine oil pan and check the rod and main bearings. It would be a shame to fix the transmission and have something let loose in the engine and have to spend more money. Thanks for the videos.
Probably a good time to invest in a few cheap bags of kitty litter to spread out underneath the basket case to help with the cleanup of the fluids that come out. lol. Love the vids!! Keep on doing what you do so well!! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Excellent Video CT :) also that Transmission case vein system would soak with Hot water and Vinegar together for over 24 hours to lose it up and would do flush on Transmission to add new fluid to! Plus sorry say new Clutch plate plus throw bearing in it too needs so have split too even ! Hope gears all okay not need replaced to plus shaft or be loads money throw in to fix up!
Great video JT, you will get her fixed right up, the dumb mistakes line is priceless, I’ve felt that way many times also, they say it makes you stronger 😂
The aptly named basket case will be keeping you occupied for a good while. It’s a darn good thing you have the patience and aptitude to handle this mess. Nothing else it’s a very intriguing project.
That tractor is a 74 or newer they started painting them white in 74 in 73 they started with the ovaled muffler 73 was the last year for the desert sunset paint
JT you can service the valve by removing the plungers placing them in your drill with fine sand paper and polish out the snatches. May have to try and lightly polish valve body too. Valve body was crazy amount of money 20 years ago, can't expect gotten any cheaper.
About a year ago ,,Warren at western truck and tractor,Had the exact problem your having,With an old john Deere ,,The valve body in that one wasn't half as bad as your one,,,And he tryed everything to fix it,,He had to put in a second hand one in the end,,
JT you named it right, just think if Oliver had been able to release their power shift from what I’ve seen of it ,it would’ve revolutionized the farming industry (bullet proof). Merry Christmas from western Wisconsin to you and your family.
Agree, have seen that several times. Also the filters have different micron levels. The transmission should filter the smaller particles to stop all that stuff thats in that valve body.
Another great video ! Fluffy, looking, Fluffy ! The ole 'Basket' Case would make a great name for a pulling tractor ! Just a thought, 😂 keep your stick on the ice ! Remember, we're pulling for you ! Merry Christmas 🎅
You’ve got your work cut out for you on the basket case. As long as you don’t become one working on it. As least you have a nice shop now to work on it and all of us looking over your shoulder. Merry Christmas 👍🇨🇦
Your doing great with that repair. I agree you might as well keep going and find the bad clutches. Has Fuffy lost weight lol ? Thx and Merry Christmas.
Took a road trip to Brekenridge Texas yesterday and saw one just like it on the other side of the fence. Of course I said to myself " That's JT's" tractor
I have been watching you for a while JT and I have confidence in you because you are a doer. 👍👌👋😎🍻🍻🍻 Oh yeah it was the blue light special at the old k bag , hehehe
I’m no tractor expert but. I’m thinking those c1-c4 numbers on the cover are for pressure testing the valve body. They look something similar to automotive pressure testing ports on cars.
Well I guess the bright spot if there is any is that you can pull the powershift out through the clutch housing once the tractor is split and it comes out in sections and you don't need anything really special for tools if I remember correctly.
oh man..😅 that case is in even worse condition than i first thought, i can understand if you dont wanna keep it now, it needs so much stinking work to get back to respectable state 😅 keep it up JT, you got more determination than most of us 😁😝
That's going to be a tough one JT. That cab in the way really complicates the project. Will be alot to remove before you get to the problem. What's with all the rust there? You seem to get alot more rain there than the Midwest. Not use to seeing so much rust on equipment, even the stuff that's been sitting for 60 years!
Nice one j.t. you have started going down the rabbit hole so you no you split now. Not great news but at least you know. So all the best with it. I'm going to say happy Xmas to you and your family and you have a good one. From Andy in uk.
I think there should be a serial number syamped into the tractor somewhere, maybe into a frame rail or somthing. Also if the engine has never been changed maybe a serial number on that .
Chicken or the egg... who knows how it got to this point? Is it sticky valves or simply wear and tear? The bottom line is that one or more of the clutches are blown, and the entire system needs to be flushed and cleaned. You know you'll take care of it, and my gut tells me that once it's done and painted, you'll be glad you did. By the way, I couldn't agree more: some days, a project fights you every step of the way, but then the next day, it seems to cooperate. Hang in there; you will cross the finish line! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Jon on YT channel Farmcraft 101 has a big CASE excavator nicknamed "Large Marge". That machine has been a real pig to work on, some parts are obsolete and virtually every task has been a nightmare to diagnose and repair. Every CASE is a basket case as they say. No doubt some knuckles and temper could be lost on this machine too!
Do you have to worry about CO2 with the heater? Been thinking of getting one for my shop. Would love to see updates on how you like it. Some brands leak and clog, etc.
Cleaning technology man that is modern stuff one stage vacuum job , no need for the house cleaner always good not to disturb her while she is painting the kitchen floors .
Well,,, gotta say,you been pretty lucky on the last few. This pig is gonna make up for it. Here for the duration. I'll set sail with the captain in yer honor. Cheers 🍻
you wanna talk about a tractor that says hold my case of beer. my grandpas 1956 massy harris Fergerson 50. ive had it 5 years used it for 1 hour of discing. best hour of discing in my life. when i got it it needed a new rear end housing, tires. got a different tractor to change those out with for cheap. hooked disc up trans wont stay in gear. fix that the next year. go to tune it cant tune it. governor is blown up. fix that the next year. go to use it wont run past half rpm. advance weights are gone no can do. get a new distributer. fix it next year. then it worked for an hour perfectly. now it back fires like crazy. there's a ton more that i fixed and the back fire issue is next year's problem
Well Mr JT as I was told many times working on various things you F*** around you definitely find out😂 your doing great things sir. Have a merry Christmas
This channel is criminally underrated. Loving these videos.
Thanks! Appreciate that very much!
100% agree!

Thanks for watching! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Nice to see you taking some time to fix them old tractor's that helped every farmer that had a tractor on the farm
Thank you!

Another clue is the grill shroud. Started out as cast iron desert tan, then cast iron white, then fiberglass white. So it's late production tractor.
JT you can service the valve by removing the plungers placing them in your drill with fine sand paper and polish out the snatches. May have to try and lightly polish valve body too. Valve body was crazy amount of money 20 years ago, can't expect gotten any cheaper.
Right on!
You sure get yourself in big messes. You always get yourself out though. I’ll be watching🤗
Right on!
Merry Christmas J.T and your family
Thanks! You too!
Merry Christmas to you J,T. I hope the elfs can help you fix this one. I like the way the cab sits on this tractor..
Right! I think it would be an enjoyable tractor to run once it’s all fixed
Is the manual not on line as a PDF to download? Happy Christmas to you and yours all the best my friend.
It probably is, but I like a good paper manual. Thank you! Same to you and yours!
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 Agree, a paper one is far, far better, all the best my friend.
Agreed, sometimes tangible is better.
About a year ago ,,Warren at western truck and tractor,Had the exact problem your having,With an old john Deere ,,The valve body in that one wasn't half as bad as your one,,,And he tryed everything to fix it,,He had to put in a second hand one in the end,,
But the John Deere power 8 speed shift is much different than this one. How could it be exactly the same?
JT you named it right, just think if Oliver had been able to release their power shift from what I’ve seen of it ,it would’ve revolutionized the farming industry (bullet proof). Merry Christmas from western Wisconsin to you and your family.
Right on! I can agree with that!
Well, if you told the truth, it really is fun though ain’t it , frustrating but fun. Waiting to see how it all turns out. Best to you friend.
Bingo! I do enjoy everything I do with these!
Agree, have seen that several times. Also the filters have different micron levels. The transmission should filter the smaller particles to stop all that stuff thats in that valve body.
Jt what you need is a overhead gantry to lift the heavy stuff. I know it cost it took me forty years of pain to figure it out and money.
Right on! Maybe that will be the next project!
Another great video ! Fluffy, looking, Fluffy ! The ole 'Basket' Case would make a great name for a pulling tractor ! Just a thought, 😂 keep your stick on the ice ! Remember, we're pulling for you ! Merry Christmas 🎅
Thanks 😆. Merry Christmas
That valve body is toast,,,,,,With all that clutch material inside,,It would act like sandpaper,,And the tolerances are very precise in these,,,
I’m sure they are. However others have had sticking valves in these and after cleaning they worked just fine
That looks real bad JT. Sorry to see that. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
You’ve got your work cut out for you on the basket case. As long as you don’t become one working on it. As least you have a nice shop now to work on it and all of us looking over your shoulder.
Merry Christmas 👍🇨🇦
Yes! Thank you!
Your doing great with that repair. I agree you might as well keep going and find the bad clutches. Has Fuffy lost weight lol ? Thx and Merry Christmas.
She is putting it back on quickly lol
First day of vacation and a new JT video?! Life is good!
😉😀
Thanks for sharing your project with us hopefully it all works out for you
Thanks!
Well JT you opened a can of worms in this video you opened up a case of worms. I'm going to enjoy this rebuild.
Right on!
Great work, thanks for sharing your adventures on the basket Case 👍💨💨
Thanks for watching!
We really enjoyed watching your videos. Keep up the good work.
Right on! Glad you enjoyed it!
Took a road trip to Brekenridge Texas yesterday and saw one just like it on the other side of the fence. Of course I said to myself " That's JT's" tractor
Right on! Maybe I could use it for spare parts lol
Amazing talent looking forward to seeing this project in action soon
Thanks!
Way too much gray matter in that oil . Looking forward to any videos follow up video . Great video JT. Happy Holidays to you and your family .👍
Thanks! Same to you!
New video, nice👌💪 Merry Christmas and Happy new Year from southern Sweden😁
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
I have been watching you for a while JT and I have confidence in you because you are a doer. 👍👌👋😎🍻🍻🍻 Oh yeah it was the blue light special at the old k bag , hehehe
Right on! Blue light..red light …
We know how it ends regardless 😆😆😆
yea JT..crazy weather here in Buffalo..least the Bills are kicking ass...and so are you with great content...well..off to shovel again...peace..
Thanks 👍
did you look at the back if its punched through it might be read from the back where there is less corrosion
It was just as bad 😆
I’m no tractor expert but. I’m thinking those c1-c4 numbers on the cover are for pressure testing the valve body. They look something similar to automotive pressure testing ports on cars.
That is probably correct
Well I guess the bright spot if there is any is that you can pull the powershift out through the clutch housing once the tractor is split and it comes out in sections and you don't need anything really special for tools if I remember correctly.
Right on! That is what I was thinking as well
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 Possibly might need a 12 point socket for 3 bolts but other than that you will be able to handle it.
Merry Christmas JT you truly are right, it’s a basket case good luck fixing it, I will stay tuned in for more lol
Thanks! Merry Christmas to you as well!
oh man..😅
that case is in even worse condition than i first thought, i can understand if you dont wanna keep it now, it needs so much stinking work to get back to respectable state 😅
keep it up JT, you got more determination than most of us 😁😝
Right on 😆
I can tell that you are not super in love with this tractor but it will be a gem when you get it painted up nicely.
Right! I don’t hate it by any means but definitely a different ball game than my masseys lol
That rig spent its early years hauling dairy “leftovers” lol. Did a number on it
That was quite a bit of clutch material in there. I'm going to enjoy watching you fix this one...sorry it's such a basket case.
Right on! I’ll get it 😉
Kmart Blue Light Specials!! Taking me back to my youth in the 80s.
Right on 😉
Nice one j.t. you have started going down the rabbit hole so you no you split now. Not great news but at least you know. So all the best with it. I'm going to say happy Xmas to you and your family and you have a good one. From Andy in uk.
Thanks Andy! You as well!
I think there should be a serial number syamped into the tractor somewhere, maybe into a frame rail or somthing. Also if the engine has never been changed maybe a serial number on that .
Right on
Chicken or the egg... who knows how it got to this point? Is it sticky valves or simply wear and tear? The bottom line is that one or more of the clutches are blown, and the entire system needs to be flushed and cleaned. You know you'll take care of it, and my gut tells me that once it's done and painted, you'll be glad you did.
By the way, I couldn't agree more: some days, a project fights you every step of the way, but then the next day, it seems to cooperate. Hang in there; you will cross the finish line! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Appreciate it! Merry Christmas!
Your vids are always entertaining my friend lol
I'm pretty sure it was "the blue light special" at Kmart 😅
😉😆😆
Nice one JT she's going to fight all the way 😅 you'll get it done have a good Christmas to you and your family 🍻🍻
Thank you! You as well!
Loving the channel. Keep up the grind.. feel free come to Ky and shine my old cabbed IH766 lol
Right on😉
Keep on, keeping on! I have faith!😮
Thank you!
I believe that 😆
Thanks for the video's marry Christmas to u and your family
Merry Christmas!
Do you have to worry about CO2 with the heater? Been thinking of getting one for my shop. Would love to see updates on how you like it. Some brands leak and clog, etc.
I think as long as I have some ventilation I’ll be ok, but I’ll keep posted!
Cleaning technology man that is modern stuff one stage vacuum job , no need for the house cleaner always good not to disturb her while she is painting the kitchen floors .
😆
That is a lot of shavings. Are those springs replaceable? Or do you have to order a new head?
They can be fixed
Well,,, gotta say,you been pretty lucky on the last few. This pig is gonna make up for it. Here for the duration. I'll set sail with the captain in yer honor. Cheers 🍻
Right on! Been working on it all day, and the mountains are blue now 😆
@jtsbarnngrill6873 Rock on brother
Excellent as usual!
Thanks again!
you wanna talk about a tractor that says hold my case of beer. my grandpas 1956 massy harris Fergerson 50. ive had it 5 years used it for 1 hour of discing. best hour of discing in my life. when i got it it needed a new rear end housing, tires. got a different tractor to change those out with for cheap. hooked disc up trans wont stay in gear. fix that the next year. go to tune it cant tune it. governor is blown up. fix that the next year. go to use it wont run past half rpm. advance weights are gone no can do. get a new distributer. fix it next year. then it worked for an hour perfectly. now it back fires like crazy. there's a ton more that i fixed and the back fire issue is next year's problem
Right on! Sounds like you’ve got your work cut out for you.
Well Mr JT as I was told many times working on various things you F*** around you definitely find out😂 your doing great things sir. Have a merry Christmas
Thanks, I appreciate it! You too!
Good luck with this puzzle 😉
Thank you 😉
I do believe i read somewhere that the pto clutches in those can come apart and cause that catastrophe.
That is a possibility
