I refuse to buy from name brand clothing lines, unless I find it on sale in a thrift store. In my humble opinion, spending loads of money of dressing up isn't Goth, it's playing dress up. Goth is and always was all about the music.

Thrifting is about patience, especially when you're looking for more alternative styles. But when you finally find something good it's such a great feeling.

They're hit or miss as a lot of the stuff can be pretty overkill on the branding, symbols and sayings. I have a few pieces from them that I got second hand on depop - Velvet bellbottoms, jersey oversize batwing top and loose knit webbed sweater. Just a hair above thrift store prices. The understated stuff that you can accessorize and personalize is where it's at. I'm happy to hear that I've reignited the thrifting spark! Are any thrift stores open in your area

It's like a treasure hunt. Something to also keep an eye out for which tend to get advertised in newspapers and Craigslist as well as local PennySaver type circulars are estate sales. Lots of these estates can be in upwards of 100 years old so you can get some quality vintage as well as antique pieces.

I was recently helping my grandma clean out some of her old stuff and I ended up getting 3 old purses from the 30s, and not fashion related but a couple candle holders and a cool old lamp that I'm gonna try and fix up. It's probably a good idea for me to stop getting stuff like that for a while though because I'm trying to move out of my parents house soon but once I move I can't guarantee I'm not gonna go on a thrifting spree or go to some estate sales
That velvet comment... I felt that. Just yesterday I thrifted this floor length velvet wrap dress with bell sleeves (for like 7 bucks and it was brand spanking new!) and it's peak Morticia energy.

I love the thrill of a thrift hunting. So many of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe came from second hand shops. Also the joy of taking a thrifted item and then diying it further just made it all the more personal.

Yayyyy, a thrift haul. I wish our Scottish stores were that big. I did the rounds in 2 different places today, nothing inspiring, mostly granny gear lol. I would love to try a jumpsuit or an all in one, but its the faff when you need the loo that puts me off.
If the jumpsuit is looser at the top (this one was tight) you can pull it down with ease, just like pants. I had the same issues with thrift shops when I lived in the UK. They were small and mostly newish primark stuff or the granny gear. Thing about the US stores, they're greedy and will sell anything you give them.

They were called “Mitten Clips” when I was growing up. We used them to keep thigh highs up in the late 80’s until they became popular in the 90’s for cinching dresses etc. I still have a pair that are at least 30 years old !😳😆

You remember, you must be a fellow Gen X er! I'm willing to bet that you remember what all the markers used to smell like as well. The true test of a Gen X er is whether they automatically sniff the markers. They used to have fruit scents. The red was cherry, the purple was grape ect. Our parents went nuts over us sniffing the markers and complained about the companies making them smell that way so they stopped making scented markers.
I love that you're still doing the thrifting videos! If you've been on depop, then you've seen the scalpers who buy "vintage goth" stuff for cheap on other sites and then sell it for hundreds of dollars on depop! I used to buy Cykxtees dresses for $30 on ebay, now people are charging hundreds of dollars for them(as well as Omen, MorbidThreads, Tripp...all of the clothing that would fall apart after only 2 or 3 washes when you bought it new back in the day) ! I did use that trick that you mentioned in one of your videos about looking for sellers who don't know or don't care what they have. I scored a Cykxtees spiderweb dress for only $30(free shipping) while they were being listed by a lot of sellers for well over a hundred dollars! They thought that it was a Hallowe'en costume. 🤷♀️ I could tell what it was by the lines and material. I just don't get these bloodsucking leeches who charge hundreds of dollars for USED CLOTHING! And it's not even designer brands! It's crappy, low quality, Hot Topic clothing! Apparently, 'vintage goth' is trendy which means that people are sometimes paying $300 for a tiny Tripp skirt! 🤣 I laugh, but it's truly sad. As I said, I think it's great that you do these thrifting videos for the people who maybe don't have much experience with thrifting or building a wardrobe. Because looking at the prices for 'goth clothing' on some of these resale sites could make people despair and you are giving them hope and sparking creativity! Keep doing what you're doing. 🖤
That's the reason that I get so disheartened by places like depop and Poshmark. It's because of those opportunistic blood thirsty parasites that will find a '90s piece from like morbid threads or something in a thrift store for $4 and sell it for $400. I mean, I understand that maybe they have bills to pay however you're taking something that say someone is coveted and might be able to swing anywhere between $50 to $100 but selling it for such an extortionate amount puts it in the hands of trenders, the hipster type that like to vacation in the goth world who don't even know the history of the piece like say the rest of us would, they just see something goth expensive and vintage and get a consumer boner. It's also that reason that I have such a large accumulated stock of '90s pieces from all of the well-known brands back then that I have every intention of selling. The problem are the scalpers. I plan to sell these pieces at a price that is accessible to the public however what ends up happening is that the scalpers have keywords set up to immediately alert them to when certain types of things are posted and then they jump in on it grab everything they can and sell it for price that you have to take out a second mortgage to afford. This is why I'm going to be doing sales via private Facebook invite only so that my subscribers and my subscribers alone can have access to the stuff as I promised and not these vultures.
I have a “problem” with velvet, too 😅🥴 I’ve found some of my favorite pieces while thrifting! (Also, the idea of showing up to an event where somebody’s wearing the same Killstar dress as you is a little mortifying 😱)
When velvet wants a good home, it knows who to look for. It's so much fun hunting for the perfect find. I do like some killstar pieces but the problem is that if one person likes it, it's likely that a lot of people will and then you show up looking like a dance troupe ready to lay the goth smackdown and goth-serve someone in a dance off.
Awesome video. I love you don't encourage people buying so much on fast fashion shops as other youtubers do. It also let u have your personal style having imagination and creativity. I love all the pieces btw hahaha. 🤗✨🖤🗝️

Wicked haul!!! I'm also in love with your mesh bat shirt! 90% of my wardrobe is thrifted and discounted (fashion outlets are awesome if you have them in your area! Two thumbs up, highly recommend!). I got and Iron Fist knitted skull sweater for $5 ther other day and did a happy dance right in the store! Since I usually have to alter clothes in way or another, I want to pay as little as I can for them. I'm happy to say that I figured out how to make a corset out of a couple of tank tops and a deconstructed bra!
I love that you preach patience and thrifting! I wear a lot of black (no Goth, more bada$$ Stevie Nicks!!) LOL but I am particular about the cut, fabric, fit, feel, etc. It keeps my closet curated and I appreciate it more when I find that just right piece.

Thank you! I used to just buy whatever shampoo seemed good and was on sale. I've had to switch to Carol's Daughter, I'm using the Goddess Strength shampoo and conditioner as it's sulfate free and I have seborrhea dermatitis that flares up like a mofo when my hashimoto's decides to go for it.

@@aenigmatica8 The sulfates really mess me up. I try to do coconut oil scalp treatments monthly. Even coconut water does a good job as well. Leave in's make my hair feel waxy (if that makes sense). I do use an argon dry oil spray.

Jacket clips! I used to wear them in the 90's too. The ones i used to wear weren't quite as pretty as that though. I had no idea they still existed. Also love the fact you have a velvet thrift store radar too - mine extends to lace and satin. It all must be mine!
I thrift all the time, and sometimes I get lucky, other times I strike out. I live in a rural area, and don't really have that many thrift stores to choose from. Goodwill is probably the best one I go to. There are a couple smaller thrifts, but they usually don't have anything. And you're right---you don't have to spend tons of money. I do have a few name brand pieces, but thrifting is more fun, and you don't have to wait for your items to be shipped. Nice things you got. (Jan Griffiths).
I'm glad you got out for a little bit of thrift store therapy. The splendor of the thrift store is so much more than that of the regular store. It's like an Easter egg hunt invoked from childhood mixed with a pirate treasure hunt mixed with shopping. All of the best things LOL.
Amazing finds!! ^^ I also went thrifting for summer-appropriate items like a month or two ago, and came home with a black velvet dress perfect for autumn :) but my best find this summer was a pair of almost brand new Doc Marten's Loafers for 47$ :) Glad you're staying safe out there ^^
These are awesome! I was always jealous of womens goth fashion, with so many different styles of clothing to work with, and as a guy I only ever seemed to to have black t-shirts, pants, and hoodies to wear. Oh well haha
I can't agree with you more. There really is such a lack of men's representation. Something that I can tell you by way of the tricks that lot of the goth menus when I was younger is that they would go into the women's section and they would look for larger pieces that can be adjusted to suit or more broad frame and DIY it. For example you can come out with velvet, leather, pvc, satin, even just a plain black button down that has say grommeted collar and sleeves can be done in a way that you would never know that you were wearing women's clothing, unless you wanted them to.

Thank you so much! The bat necklace I got from Etsy and the back shirt is actually a bodysuit that I got on Halloween clearance last year from nasty gal. I got another bodysuit from the same shopping trip which is a spider web.
I know a lot of goths who did things like just sewed D rings and made their own bandage straps to pants and skirts or to corset a looser fitting outfit. Or sew mesh and fishnet into their own shirts and pants. DIY is great because then you aren't wearing the generic, and don't "look like everyone else"

Out of all the outfits I liked the velvet dress the best. Me and my girlfriend are thinking on having a celtic gothic wedding so when I have the wedding reception I'll do a video of the two of us and post it on TH-cam
I feel like there must be something wrong with me because I really like the smell of thrift store clothing racks. I used to work at a store, I priced all the stuff, and I always felt very calm and relaxed around the clean, fresh, very specific smell they have.
If that 2x is cheap enough you can trim in down make it your size and then add the trimming to the shoulders of a t-shirt or something to make a matching top. I used to do that stuff all the time.
I feel guilty. Anything over a size L is a hard find so when I see it, I leave it alone. Let someone whose the lucky size find it. It wasn't meant for me.

Thrift store adventures are so much fun. They're not my most popular videos but they're the most fun for me to do because it's like a treasure hunt. You never know what you're going to find! I usually go on ThredUP or eBay to get secondhand, but it’s so cool to see someone go to a brick and mortar thrift store and find some gems!!
I haven't purchased anything off of threadUP but I've been on the site, they have great stuff Poshmark is good too.
I love the thrill of a thrift hunting. So many of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe came from second hand shops. Also the joy of taking a thrifted item and then diying it further just made it all the more personal.

Yayyyy, a thrift haul. I wish our Scottish stores were that big. I did the rounds in 2 different places today, nothing inspiring, mostly granny gear lol. I would love to try a jumpsuit or an all in one, but its the faff when you need the loo that puts me off.
If the jumpsuit is looser at the top (this one was tight) you can pull it down with ease, just like pants. I had the same issues with thrift shops when I lived in the UK. They were small and mostly newish primark stuff or the granny gear. Thing about the US stores, they're greedy and will sell anything you give them.

@@angelabenedict I’m not a big thrifter, but I know people who are and there’s not a ton in our area but they’ve been able to find some gems.
They were called “Mitten Clips” when I was growing up. We used them to keep thigh highs up in the late 80’s until they became popular in the 90’s for cinching dresses etc. I still have a pair that are at least 30 years old !😳😆

They used to have fruit scents. The red was cherry, the purple was grape ect.
Our parents went nuts over us sniffing the markers and complained about the companies making them smell that way so they stopped making scented markers.

I love that you're still doing the thrifting videos! If you've been on depop, then you've seen the scalpers who buy "vintage goth" stuff for cheap on other sites and then sell it for hundreds of dollars on depop! I used to buy Cykxtees dresses for $30 on ebay, now people are charging hundreds of dollars for them(as well as Omen, MorbidThreads, Tripp...all of the clothing that would fall apart after only 2 or 3 washes when you bought it new back in the day) ! I did use that trick that you mentioned in one of your videos about looking for sellers who don't know or don't care what they have. I scored a Cykxtees spiderweb dress for only $30(free shipping) while they were being listed by a lot of sellers for well over a hundred dollars! They thought that it was a Hallowe'en costume. 🤷♀️ I could tell what it was by the lines and material.
I just don't get these bloodsucking leeches who charge hundreds of dollars for USED CLOTHING! And it's not even designer brands! It's crappy, low quality, Hot Topic clothing! Apparently, 'vintage goth' is trendy which means that people are sometimes paying $300 for a tiny Tripp skirt! 🤣 I laugh, but it's truly sad.
As I said, I think it's great that you do these thrifting videos for the people who maybe don't have much experience with thrifting or building a wardrobe. Because looking at the prices for 'goth clothing' on some of these resale sites could make people despair and you are giving them hope and sparking creativity! Keep doing what you're doing. 🖤
That's the reason that I get so disheartened by places like depop and Poshmark. It's because of those opportunistic blood thirsty parasites that will find a '90s piece from like morbid threads or something in a thrift store for $4 and sell it for $400. I mean, I understand that maybe they have bills to pay however you're taking something that say someone is coveted and might be able to swing anywhere between $50 to $100 but selling it for such an extortionate amount puts it in the hands of trenders, the hipster type that like to vacation in the goth world who don't even know the history of the piece like say the rest of us would, they just see something goth expensive and vintage and get a consumer boner. It's also that reason that I have such a large accumulated stock of '90s pieces from all of the well-known brands back then that I have every intention of selling. The problem are the scalpers. I plan to sell these pieces at a price that is accessible to the public however what ends up happening is that the scalpers have keywords set up to immediately alert them to when certain types of things are posted and then they jump in on it grab everything they can and sell it for price that you have to take out a second mortgage to afford. This is why I'm going to be doing sales via private Facebook invite only so that my subscribers and my subscribers alone can have access to the stuff as I promised and not these vultures.
I have a “problem” with velvet, too 😅🥴 I’ve found some of my favorite pieces while thrifting! (Also, the idea of showing up to an event where somebody’s wearing the same Killstar dress as you is a little mortifying 😱)
When velvet wants a good home, it knows who to look for. It's so much fun hunting for the perfect find. I do like some killstar pieces but the problem is that if one person likes it, it's likely that a lot of people will and then you show up looking like a dance troupe ready to lay the goth smackdown and goth-serve someone in a dance off.

90% of my wardrobe is thrifted and discounted (fashion outlets are awesome if you have them in your area! Two thumbs up, highly recommend!). I got and Iron Fist knitted skull sweater for $5 ther other day and did a happy dance right in the store!
Since I usually have to alter clothes in way or another, I want to pay as little as I can for them. I'm happy to say that I figured out how to make a corset out of a couple of tank tops and a deconstructed bra!

I love that you preach patience and thrifting! I wear a lot of black (no Goth, more bada$$ Stevie Nicks!!) LOL but I am particular about the cut, fabric, fit, feel, etc. It keeps my closet curated and I appreciate it more when I find that just right piece.

I always love your fashion videos! Omg! We used clips like that to keep our pants inside our boots back in the 80s! It was the same hooks and a plain elastic band.

Thank you! I used to just buy whatever shampoo seemed good and was on sale. I've had to switch to Carol's Daughter, I'm using the Goddess Strength shampoo and conditioner as it's sulfate free and I have seborrhea dermatitis that flares up like a mofo when my hashimoto's decides to go for it.

@@aenigmatica8 The sulfates really mess me up. I try to do coconut oil scalp treatments monthly. Even coconut water does a good job as well. Leave in's make my hair feel waxy (if that makes sense). I do use an argon dry oil spray.

I thrift all the time, and sometimes I get lucky, other times I strike out. I live in a rural area, and don't really have that many thrift stores to choose from. Goodwill is probably the best one I go to. There are a couple smaller thrifts, but they usually don't have anything. And you're right---you don't have to spend tons of money. I do have a few name brand pieces, but thrifting is more fun, and you don't have to wait for your items to be shipped. Nice things you got. (Jan Griffiths).

I'm glad you got out for a little bit of thrift store therapy. The splendor of the thrift store is so much more than that of the regular store. It's like an Easter egg hunt invoked from childhood mixed with a pirate treasure hunt mixed with shopping. All of the best things LOL.

These are awesome! I was always jealous of womens goth fashion, with so many different styles of clothing to work with, and as a guy I only ever seemed to to have black t-shirts, pants, and hoodies to wear. Oh well haha
I can't agree with you more. There really is such a lack of men's representation. Something that I can tell you by way of the tricks that lot of the goth menus when I was younger is that they would go into the women's section and they would look for larger pieces that can be adjusted to suit or more broad frame and DIY it. For example you can come out with velvet, leather, pvc, satin, even just a plain black button down that has say grommeted collar and sleeves can be done in a way that you would never know that you were wearing women's clothing, unless you wanted them to.

Thank you so much! The bat necklace I got from Etsy and the back shirt is actually a bodysuit that I got on Halloween clearance last year from nasty gal. I got another bodysuit from the same shopping trip which is a spider web.

I know a lot of goths who did things like just sewed D rings and made their own bandage straps to pants and skirts or to corset a looser fitting outfit. Or sew mesh and fishnet into their own shirts and pants.
DIY is great because then you aren't wearing the generic, and don't "look like everyone else"

I have had so many clothes look terrible in the back because they were too big and give that giant lower back bubble, which makes the butt look huge XD This is a great solution that I didn't know about. Out of all the outfits I liked the velvet dress the best. Me and my girlfriend are thinking on having a celtic gothic wedding so when I have the wedding reception I'll do a video of the two of us and post it on TH-cam
I feel like there must be something wrong with me because I really like the smell of thrift store clothing racks. I used to work at a store, I priced all the stuff, and I always felt very calm and relaxed around the clean, fresh, very specific smell they have.
That smell has a positive association. I totally get it! 🖤
If that 2x is cheap enough you can trim in down make it your size and then add the trimming to the shoulders of a t-shirt or something to make a matching top. I used to do that stuff all the time.
I feel guilty. Anything over a size L is a hard find so when I see it, I leave it alone. Let someone whose the lucky size find it. It wasn't meant for me.

Thrift store adventures are so much fun. They're not my most popular videos but they're the most fun for me to do because it's like a treasure hunt. You never know what you're going to find! I live for that level of excitement. The bat mesh shirt came from nasty gal. I got it last year during a Halloween sale. It's a bodysuit and I also got a spider web version of the same.

This haul was so much fun and now I'm itching to go thrifting even through I'm too broke (even for the thrift store :( lol) at least for now. Yes, you too!! We gotta get out and get some lanterns and stuff in case the power goes. That thrift store and I have a love/hate relationship. On the one hand you can get some great finds and on the other they can really try and rip you off when they see an opportunity.

I feel you on the velvet. It's summer and I'm pregnant and I miss my velvet. Unfortunately it's not a common fabric around here, so when you're lucky enough to find it in a thrift store, it's usually a very matronly piece... your tip about the clips is gonna open some doors for me!
