    I can't wait for this upgrade! Honestly, man one of the many things I appreciate is the fact that you're a mechanic, but you still do this work in the garage/driveway. Its really helped inspire confidence for me tackling these projects!

    Absolute loving your contents on your 4runner. Im having a humming noise and vibration on the floor (front diff). Dreaded needle bearing. 2024 4runner with 8.5k miles. Took an appointment to a toyota dealer

    Viking, can you talk more about the shock absorber performance? What were you trying to solve and how did the new shocks work for it?

    • @VikingsGarage

      Excessive rear bouncing which it corrected, it raised it a tiny bit also. They are perfect for every day driving and usage.

    5100's are a great cost effective upgrade. The fronts make the biggest difference, you should link to the video you did on them. Changing out the fronts drastically helps with nose dive and if you want you can level the truck a bit. Awesome tip on using an oil filter wrench to hold the shock!

    Awesome video! Haven't swapped a set of rear shocks in a while. Still holding off on the 4Runner for a while before I bother changing out the shocks. My Raptor is coming up on 60K miles and I know those Fox shocks are going to be needing a rebuild soon. Crazy how much these Live valve fox shocks/struts run new so I'll be getting them rebuilt instead.

      I don’t blame you, cheaper that way. 👏🏻

    I changed the rear shocks on my FJ and the procedure is just the same. I think the torque specs are the same too. I did take my wheels off though to change them. I was surprised how easy it was to do and did it in the garage. It probably took me more time to set up to do the work than it did to swap them out.

    • @VikingsGarage

      This is very true, that’s why this time around I wanted to show you guys that it can be done with the wheels still on.

    Thanks for sharing! If you are in the rust belt the Bilstein 4600's is a better option due to their painted body not zinc plated finish like the 5100's which will rust prematurely! Both are valved very similar only difference is the options in longer lengths over stock!!👈✌️

    • @VikingsGarage

      I did know about that, let’s face it, I’m sure at some point there will be yet another upgrade.

    Jack it up on the frame will droop the axle more.

  • @CrippleCreekStudios

    My biggest question was why you changed/upgraded, but I think you answered it. For my brand new 4R, I think I’ll use the stock ones a bit more before changing.

    • @VikingsGarage

      It gives it a stiffer ride and a slight bit more height (tiny amount).
      I’ve always liked the Bilstein product. 😉

  • @kevinbrock6716

    Did you use loctite on the upper bolt/nut?

  • @smokinwithskruggs

    Gona have to do this this spring. Wife was just complaining about the ride last night on our 2016. Unfortunately when we bought it with 60k I wasn't expecting the shocks to be seeping (never trust mileage, always have have your used car checked by a professional when buying from a dealer). Now has 68k and again Unfortunately it has the XREAS system.

    • @VikingsGarage

      That does suck, if I can give you a piece of advice. Disconnect those lines, zip tie them to the chassis and put the regular shocks in it. Way cheaper!!

    • @smokinwithskruggs

    Happy New Year! Thanks for all your great videos! On this video, how many miles can we rely on our stock coil springs to be good for? I am also wanting to upgrade to the 5100's but my 4Runner (2014 SR5) has 130K miles. Do I need to replace the springs? I'm only wanting to do the .8" front lift and keep rear at stock height. Appreciate all your hard work for such great content! Chris

      Happy New year too you also!!
      The OEM springs are pretty good, I’ve seen them with over 200k miles perfectly fine. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Great video brother.
    If it is for the Limited model with XREAS, outside of taking the nut for the reservoir anything different? Also, does an alignment is needed if I change XREAS shocks to Blisten? Thank you

    • @VikingsGarage

      You can totally retrofit it to work with the Bilstein’s , no alignment needed unless you’re doing the fronts.

    My 2021 4runner trd premium with 42k miles squeaks when i turn steering wheel on the left. I had a tire center look at it briefly and they said upper ball joint is going.
    Would that only happen on one side? What is a fair price to fix that? Shoukd i replace the other one at same time?
    Is this something i can do?
    Is there anything else that would cause that? Will it hurt it to drive it like that?
    Sorry for all the questions, but this is my first 4runner and im tryin to learn more.
    Thank you for ur content!

    The stock shocks on the SR5 are trash. I did my own. Replace all 4 with Eibach pro truck. .75 lift in the front gives you the trd stance with the stock springs for about $300. Drives 100% better. You will thank me later.
