Introducing Zorawar Light Tank: India's response to Chinese armoured deployments in Ladakh

- India has unveiled its first indigenous light tank, developed in response to Chinese deployments in Eastern Ladakh. Named Zorawar, the 25-ton tank offers high mobility and accurate firepower, superior to the Chinese Type 15 tanks. It features a 105mm gun, active protection, and an integrated UAV. The Army plans to deploy 354 light tanks, with 59 to be made initially. The tank is designed for all terrains and air transportable for rapid deployment.

105mm gun has been developed by Bharat Forge. 1000hp engine for tank has been developed by DRDO. I hope the production or the MK-2 version will come with these indigenous parts.

It is astounding that Indian Army didn't know that they wanted Light tanks at high altitude despite having access to those high altitude areas in India itself. Only when IA saw Chinese light tanks they realized, they also need light thanks. If this is the case with Indian military then get ready for more surprises from china.

@akshay.kumar.k please educate yourself first. The name Zorawar used here refers to Zorawar Singh, the famous dogra General. He was a great warrior and fought glorious battles at the height of himalaya in ladakh,kashmir.

@MayurRKale it is the same Cokerill 105 HP gun ... the whole design is reminiscent of the found on Cockerill's website ... if there is supposed to be an Indian designed gun then this is not it, maybe it'll be installed in the next prototype

Drones are the biggest threat to tanks now. Its good to know that Zorawar has its own integrated UAV. Drdo acknowledged modern warfare needs 👍

I am proud of it but the most vulnerable part I think will be the top of the turret which can be easily penetrate by anti-tank missiles. For this active protection system will provide much more protection.

Looks like it... but it'll limit mobility in muddy fields as even a little burying of the tracks will make the tank get stuck on these side armor slabs...

Considering India's shambles military industry, represented by the Arjun tank and Tejas fighter jet, there is a high possibility that this light tank project will also fail. The only cases in which India's military industry has been exceptionally successful are the BrahMos missile, which received technical support from Russia, and the K9 self howitzer, which was produced in India with technical support from S.Korea.
This is another Korean K9 Thunder derivative, with the standard 155mm turret replaced by the light MODULAR Cockerill 3105, that's manufactured in Belgium, and that you can bolt a thousand and one options to, per a politicians / senior officers, or their wife, kids, mistress's whim, with little more than a toolkit. The hull and several engine options were accepted by the IA, along with the armies of Korea, Egypt, Turkey, Poland, Finland, Norway, ... decades back. The cannon is a NATO L7 variant, the Chinese Type 15 also adopted, there's assorted ammo types available for these cannon, from numerous sources. Leaves only the colour, local workmanship, and price, as obvious grounds to reject the mod.

There are additional slots where jammers can be added for jamming drone seekers. Hope this will be implemented soon. For the time being, the co axial machine gun can take out low flying aerial targts

Yeah that why it’s prototype , that’s passive protection, they showcase live protection
Its a light tank, its supposed to have less armour, its job is to Traverse mountainous regions to provide armoured assistance to infantry where tanks usually can't go. Its not supposed to fight the Chinese MTBs like ZTZ 99 etc. We already have T90s and T72s for that.

@@user-me6jb4tu5d That is what APS and ERA is for. And usually Shoulder fired AT rounds are very slow, slow enough for a light tank to move out of its way.
The main problem for this tank is going to be the FPV drones hope it comes with APS and Anti drone measures else it fucked.

Its not 100 % Indian. The gun is European and the engine is American. But good effort nonetheless.

While it looks chunky, the side skirts makes it resemble the old Matilda Mk 2. But considering that the gun is Belgian and the engine American with perhaps the transmission, what is Indian about it ? Perhaps the armour which could be DRDOs Kavach ?
