Great video, Ken! I have been thinking a lot about this recently, and I also think Bobby had a pretty good chance of beating both Johnny and Daniel. Johnny's story comic shows how Bobby beats Johnny during a cobra kai training combat. That was during their training for the 84 tournament. This example brings a hint that Bobby was getting stronger to the point where he could have been the all valley champ. It's great that you brought up that Kreese and Johnny conversation because it is key to this idea. Kreese knew well that Bobby was getting strong enough to beat Johnny at the tournament. At the same time, Kreese gets Bobby to use his skills against Daniel because he knows that Bobby can severely injure Daniel. Even more than Johnny. He tried to take advantage of the situation so Johnny could have defended his title for the third time. Kreese's actions prove that he cared more about Johnny than the rest of his dojo and that Kreese didn't want Bobby to be his next champion which is indeed very sad. I hope we get to see more of Bobby in season 5. He could be the new eagle fang sensei while Johnny is away in Mexico looking for Miguel.

*I hope the writers take note and bring Bobby as some kind of sleeper fighter. Maybe he can be the one defeating Kreese. After all it'd be quite symbolic. Kreese is so evil and Bobby is a man of god by now. The show is called "COBRA KAI" not "Karate KID" anymore. Daniel doesn't have to be the hero anymore. However, since Ralph Macchio is an executive producer in the show, he's probably the one who'll be the hero at the end...*
Johnny was confirmed the best fighter from Kreese and Johnny was total nerfed in the tournament he had no confidence and focus also confirmed by Kreese and he stated it himself. It's also to see in the film. Johnny's confidence was also low because Ali he also said it in season 1 and then he saw what Kreese did, he forced Bobby to hurt Daniel and didin't let him win.
Johnny's emotions were on the ground.
Something a lot of people forget is Johnny had won in 1982 and 1983 Winner 2 years in a row, in KK 3 When Daniel wins the announcer says he was the first to win 2 years in a row

Also funny that Johnny brings back cobra Kai but the actual people that were banned was Terry silver & I believe Kreese he paid the reff wonder if he paid the committee as well or they just looked the other way

You're right. As we've seen in season 2 episode 6 "Take a right". When Johnny tells Bobby that Kreese was back and presumably co-teaching his students Bobby was distrustful of Kreese saying always had something up his sleeve. So if Bobby does return im season 5 or 6 he might still hold a grudge against Kreese for his actions back in 84 and what he did to Johnny during that same time.
To be fair, Johnny in the 1984 All Valley was mentally nerfed due to his lost of focus cause of his breakup with Ali and lost of confidence cause of his lost against Mr Miyagi

Johnny simply says "𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 tournament back in '83;" it's possible that Johnny, Tommy, and Vidal had competed in more than one tournament that year. (Martial arts students do this in the real-world all the time; some tournaments are more prestigious than others, and we know from Karate Kid III that Mike Barnes also competed in multiple tournaments). Johnny almost says the phrase as if he can't exactly remember the name of that particular tournament; if it's the All-Valley he's referring to, why wouldn't he call it by its properly prestigious name? The fact that Johnny never talks elsewhere about winning this tournament would indicate it was a lesser-known, less prestigious tournament than the All-Valley...a "Some Valley."

Great solution. And it also helps keep the contradiction of Johnny winning in 82’ and 83’ because in KK3 the announcer says that Daniel was the first to ever win 2 all valleys in a row. I’ve always thought that Johnny won his freshman year and his junior year

I want to see Bobby come to Daniel and apologize for all the [garbage] Cobra Kai did. Johnny never apologized, neither did Jimmy, and I can't see Dutch looking for forgiveness, and with Tommy dead, that just leaves Bobby to make amends. I think that would help Daniel come to grips with the past in a way that will help him leave the past behind and finally grow. It might help Johnny, too.

Well said! And after thinking more and more about it, the real rivalry is still Kreese vs Daniel. Those two are the reason for all events in the Cobra Kai series. When Daniel hears the name Cobra Kai, only negative things come in his mind. When Kreese hears the name Miyagi, only negative things come in his mind. Since Mr. Miyagi is death Daniel is now the red flag in Kreeses mind, and Silver was absolute right. Kreese only brought him back to get Johnny free from Daniel and come back on Kreeses side, it was never about them teaming up.
Its very sad but this is imo the truth. Many people theorize Daniel and Kreese will team up in Season 5. I strongly doubt it because those two are the real enemies. Daniel has to change his mind and see Cobra Kai can do positive things too, like Kreese has to change his mind and see Miyagi Do can do positive things as well.
Bobby apologized profusely to Daniel immediately after he kicked him.

I absolutely LOVE your Karate Kid universe breakdowns! They are the best on the planet. After all of these years I never noticed what the announcer said in the background. There are a few inconsistencies in what was stated in Cobra Kai, but I think that KK 1-3 should be canon over CK. I hope that the CK producers review your videos before the upcoming seasons so they can confirm some of the Ken Cole Easter Eggs. Thank you for your analytical breakdowns of the KK characters!

Bobby already did. He 1 shot Johnny at church after saying "Forgive me, father". He also 1 shot Daniel in the 1984 tournament provided it was an illegal move by tournament standards
Then he got disqualified after he did that. Being disqualified does't mean being winner in plus don't forget that when he sweep Johnny Johnny was drunk in plus he wasn't ready to fight.
It was a big mistake not adding that scene where Bobby throws his belt in the first Karate Kid movie. Not only would it have made more sense considering his Cobra Kai appearances but it also would have made that movie even better.
Johnny beat Bobby before. If not, Tommy went to the finals in 1983. So Bobby could have lost.

Look at Kreese”s face before Daniel fought Dutch, as if saying to Dutch “you’re doomed pal”. Maybe Kreese didn’t believe Bobby or Johnny could beat Daniel. Maybe he wanted to punish Daniel for Miyagi beating up Johnny ams the other cobras, and for Miyagi defying him in his dojo, in front of his students.

This is an excellent video and certainly raises a valid point, Bobby always seemed more level headed than any of the Cobra Kai students. In the Karate Kid he was the voice of reason. Several times he pointed out that Daniel had, had enough the fight was over. Bobby seemed to be a very skilled and focused fighter. He is certainly the Dark horse.

Bobby was clearly devastated. He could have beat Daniel fair and square, but he was disqualified, and guilt stricken for hurting Daniel, when that could have been his best moment. Maybe that's why he becomes a pastor, and in the TV series he preached about forgiveness and forgiving oneself, and in the church he did a sweep on Johnny. I think in coming seasons Bobby will make amends with Daniel.

I like the takes, and agree with this one. I think Bobby was obviously close the year before and probably could have beaten Johnny. The thing is, would Bobby want to beat Johnny? They are friends and Johnny was the leader of their friend group. If Bobby won how would that go?

@@KenCole and since Johnny is considered to be Kreese's best student back in 84 it is possible that Johnny might beat Bobby. Though since Johnny often goes into fights without thinking and doesn't have a backup plan it is possible that Bobby could beat Johnny if he exploited that weakness.

Ken, Johnny did not win in 1982, the 2 tournaments he won are 1981 and 1983, he lost against Vidal in 1982, Kreese told that to Robby when he visited him in juvie!! In season 1 Johnny tells Miguel that his first tournament was 1981, and Kreese tells Robby that Vidal beat Johnny during his second tournament, witch means its 1982. You are making great videos btw.

in kk3 when daniel beat mike barnes they said that daniel was the first to win two years in a row but in kk1 if you listen closley the guy says that JHONNY had won two years in a row already

Great video! Regarding who the 1983 runner-up was, I would agree it was Bobby. I say: the filmmakers of Karate Kid made it clear, and the Cobra Kai producers missed that. Therefore, Cobra Kai made a flaw, and Karate Kid will always be correct.
There are quite a few little details in the back stories and dialogue that don't quite line up going from CK to it's source material (KK) .. even KK3 botched by stating Daniel was the first back to back winner.
I favour the order the first movie set up with Daniel's tournament fights. I think it goes Johnny, Bobby, Dutch, Tommy, Jimmy.
I also consider the conversation between Johnny and Tommy in hospital to be bad writing, written just for emotional stakes for a dying Tommy. There's no way the Tommy we saw in the first movie would be competitive against Johnny, Bobby and Vidal..

Thanks for the video! I think Bobby could've easily beaten Daniel. I do, think, he had more skills than Johnny, but I also think Johnny must know him and his moves, so the match might go more evenly. Also, I think it's probable that Johnny was going a bit easy on Daniel, not targeting his injured knee on purpose, doing the honorable thing. That's why Kreese says "sweep the leg," cause he knows Johnny is holding back.

I think Johnny might've said that to Tommy to lift his spirits OR Johnny meant 1982 instead of 1983.
Since Johnny is going after Miguel in season 5 i would very much like for him to call in Bobby to take care of Eagle Fang while hes gone. I also would love to see more of Bobby in general and how his christian lifestyle and the philosophies learned from karate blend.
Also i do agree with you here that Bobby was likely batter than Johnny and Daniel in the first movie at least.
It would be great if Bobby comes more into the story. He has strong personal ties to Johnny, Kreese and even Daniel.

You didn't heared him very well, he said "The winner, the first ever win in a row. The grand champion Daniel Larusso." Johnny won 2 times but he didn't won in a row. In 1981 he lost to Vidal Darrl but he became a champion in 1982 and 1983.

As a fighter myself, Bobby has the MOST balance in KK. He may not have the most raw power like Johnny or defense like Daniel. But he’s so skilled that if they were to fight, it’d be hard to choose a winner.
So to answer this question many have always wondered. First, Bobby v Johnny.
Now earlier you did mention that Johnny was favored by Kreese among everyone else. But why? Well ofc Kreese knew that Bobby was really skilled, seeing throughout all the other fights.
Now Johnny is the strongest in strength overall in KK(maybe Dutch) but he’s got lots of skill too. But Johnny lacks control. Even though they were taught in the same dojo, Bobby still applied his own focus and knowledge to his own use. Making him not only better than Johnny but possibly one of the best in the KK Universe.
Daniel? Now this one can be a little bit more justified. Seeing as though Daniel was trained under Mr. Miyagi and gained great Okinawan fighting techniques and skill. However, later stated in Cobra Kai, Miyagi didn’t teach him everything. This was because Daniel wasn’t ready,(cough) KK3. Sorry, but anyways Daniel also wasn’t as strong in balance as Bobby. Since Daniel can also loose control, making very vulnerable when he’s fighting. Giving Bobby the overall advantage over him.
So in my opinion I think Bobby would beat either one of them. This is just an opinion so I hope you do respect it. But remember, it can and would go both ways.

Awesome video! I tend to agree that Bobby could have beaten Daniel, but not for the same detailed reasons as you. For me, we just know that Bobby was very good, and we didn't get to see everything he was capable of (as Kreese told Bobby to get himself disqualified)... I personally think Daniel felt a lot more motivation to beat Johnny than he did to beat Bobby. For example, try to imagine if things worked out differently so the semi-finals were Bobby against Vidal, and Johnny against Daniel. I'll assume Bobby would have beaten Vidal, and Johnny would have got Daniel out of commission (therefore, Johnny would have been the one disqualified). The big question here becomes: Would an injured Daniel have felt the same determination to get back in the ring to face Bobby in the final? I don't think Daniel would have. I think he might have just accepted that the Cobra Kai cheated, Johnny was disqualified, and he proved what he was capable of in fair one-on-one matches... The point here is: I don't think Daniel would have felt the same motivations against Bobby as Johnny. And Bobby was the more experienced and confident fighter there. So I think Bobby could have won... And just to clarify: I think Bobby was above the level of Tommy, Dutch and Jimmy.
On another subject, I still don't buy what Kreese said in season 4 of Cobra Kai... My view is: During the All Valley scenes of the first movie, Kreese wanted someone from his dojo to be the champion, and he wanted Daniel to suffer. He had no problem with seeing one of his students disqualified in order to make that happen. And it's all that simple... Kreese may later think of ways to deny it. But he's lying... I fully admit that the flashbacks on Cobra Kai (of Kreese in Vietnam) showed us just some of the many difficulties he want through which lead him to become the nasty person he is. But none of that is an excuse. In the end, Kreese is always the ultimate bad guy of the Karate Kid story... It's fine if you disagree, but that's my opinion.

Kresse stated that Johnny wasn't in a good mental state when he was fighting with Daniel because Daniel was dating with his exgirlfriend in plus I also heard that in 1983 Johnny won all the fight 3-0 scores.
I think Bobby could have beaten Johnny, i dont know if he could have beat daniel. One other thing you forgot to mention is, in cobra kai season 3 johnny goes into bobbys church and bobby takes johnny down with a lightning fast round house sweep.

During the sudden death between Eli and Robbie, I noticed a few things: first the referee just shrugged when Robbie took his Gi off, then a kick by Eli to Robbie’s face and then a kick to Robbies stomach. In both cases the referee said “no points” but I believe at least one of them should have counted as a point. Then a kick to Robbies stomach right before Eli scored the victory point. It’s quite obvious that the referee was bribed but Robbie was unable to score the winning point. I’d very much like to hear your comments.

@@KenCole I watched but thought that my comment has a better chance to get to you if I posted it in your most recent video. Around minute 11:00 Stryfe says that the referee didn’t bias the Eli/Robby match in Robby’s favor because Robby didn’t need it. I think he did award legitimate points to Eli but Robby was unable to score the victory point.

The way Johnny fights in the tournament against Bobby he used more skill and he is a lot quicker and Daniel probably didn’t move because the thought the ref would get involved if it was an illegal kick and thought this won’t count and he dropped his defence’s

Johnny beat Bobby in the tournament 83 a lot of Poeple missed this if you look for the video where kreese told Bobby to put Daniel out of commission in the background the announcer announced Bobby as last years runner up
