    I loved this and Defender - and I think at least half the reason why were the incredible sounds, most of which are used in both games. Here I am again and honestly it's more for the sounds than anything else

    WOW! I've never seen anyone spank Joust like that, frickin' wicked tough game. Thanks for sharing your high score run with us my friend, good job. 👍 👍

    Wow! I can play Defender like this, but never was good at Joust. As mentioned the sounds in Joust are just amazing. I remember when it first came out, now 40 years later it’s still just as cool to me.
    Well played 💪💪

      Yes -- because of a direct hit in its mouth by your lance.

      When we played doubles, we would sit on that middle ledge with our backs to each other, and we would just kill them all.

    This game I remember from my childhood. I would get as far as the egg level and then I’d piss myself when the shadow lord popped up. I’d always die. And forget about the pterodactyl. Instant death. Thanks for the memories

    This was one of those games that looked and played so good in the arcade that no home version at the time could compare. But even the Atari 2600 version was enjoyable!

    I was great at Defender, but I was always terrible at Joust. Seeing someone play at this level, you make it look easy!!

    amazing to think there was 1 level in an arcade game. Would have been cool with like 10

    Disparate games like Joust, Galaga and Robotron hit 10M at 5-6 hours.
    It's strange because games of that era were created by many people.
    How they all end up hitting 10M points at the same time is strange.

    59 free men at the end. 50 points per death. One third of the way to an extra man just for them dying.

    Clearing all the eggs at the end of each wave results in faster scoring and IMO helps preserve lives, not that you need them when you have over 50 at the end.

    Goodness, it took forever for you to just end your lives you had so many!!!!! I guess there is almost no limit to how long you could have continued. If the game had it, I'm sure you could achieve the kill screen.

    James Haliday, Parzival, Art3mis, Aech, Daito & Shoto did thumb it up. 👍
    Sorrento did thumb it down. 👎

    I used AI to find this information, but AI tends to be very inaccurate. So please, may you clarify the following information?
    The number FF06B5 is a hexadecimal value that represents the green dragon's character data in the game's memory. When you press the buttons on your controller, the game reads the input and changes the value of the character data to FF06B5. This tells the game to load the green dragon's character model and animations into memory.
    The combination of buttons is a specific sequence that the game's developers chose to use to trigger the cheat code. The buttons are pressed in a specific order because the game's memory is organized in a specific way. When the game reads the input from the controller, it looks for a specific pattern of button presses in a specific order. If it finds the pattern, it knows to change the value of the character data to FF06B5.
    It's important to note that the number FF06B5 and the combination of buttons are specific to the original Joust arcade game.

      Sorry, I only play the game. I don't know anything about the coding.

    Is this set on Difficulty 1 or something?
    Edit: No it's not, I'm just not good enough at Joust to get to the higher levels to see for myself what happens there. Player says it's Difficulty 5, and I believe it.

    • @dazzer_
      @dazzer_  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, it's on Difficulty 5. That's the factory default.

    • @myblacklab7
      @myblacklab7 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@dazzer_ Cool. Thanks!
      It's weird that on higher levels some of the bad birds take so long to spawn. Maybe there's a trick to that, or something.
      Excellent jousting! I've played this game a lot, and I think my personal record is Level 20 or so.

    • @dazzer_
      @dazzer_  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@myblacklab7 Yes, they do take forever on some levels. Especially the ones with only 3 spawning platforms. There's no trick, it just happens sometimes.
      Level 20 or so is a good start. You'll find if you can get to the point where you no longer have the red and silver enemies to deal with, it actually starts to get easier as they are more predictable. Joust is pretty much a pattern game once you start to recognise how they move.

    • @myblacklab7
      @myblacklab7 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@dazzer_ Thanks for the tips!
      Is it still basically a pattern game at Difficulty 10? My game is Robotron 2084, and it's a different animal at Difficulty 10 compared to Difficulty 5.
