Back in the day I could play this game for hours at the movie theater. People would watch before the movie started go into the theater watch the movie and I would still be playing on the same quarter lol.
Those 2 games, Defender and Stargate, weren't satisfied with just being challenging arcade machines. They were created to crush players and grind the remains into a fine talcum-like powder.
I cant even imagine how many quarters I put in this game in the 80’s and I was never close to being this good. It’s nice to play a game that isn’t overly complex and doesn’t take days to learn. Its fun to just blast the hell out of things for an hour or two and be done with it. And something I learned today after 30+ years is the Yallabian Space Junkies is just “Bally” spelled backwards…i.e. Ballyian. From the planet Bally I guess. Doh! 🤷
Absolutely amazing game play skills. I loved Defender in the arcade, but I never really got into Stargate because it was so hard. I never even realized you could use to Stargate to warp to humans being picked up.
"I used to be pretty good at video games back in the 80s." I'd complacently tell myself. Then I watch this. Holy snappin' dude, I bow to your skill. This was a brutal game. I guess it depends ON the game, I can still win Trojan and Black Tiger on 1 quarter and play Mat Mania for hours, but Stargate...not a chance. Again, kudos.
Glad to have the opportunity to play this game of Atari 2600 version (the clone one)in my early age of childhood, and I have played this arcade version for just a year or two. Needless to say, I am still a rookie for this game. And also, I am glad to have this opportunity to contact this game even in such a close environment in Taiwan in the 80s’ in which you can’t even get any kind of information from the world outside of the small island. Thanks for your video of gameplay! I am glad that I can play this game on my iPhone 7 with RetroArch! Outstanding game play!
Whenever I see two or three of the same car model on the road, I say "Pod intersection in 5 seconds." My kids are used to it but have no idea what I am talking about.
Like watching myself kinda’. Nice reverse game, easy mutants. I’ll be honest gating to pick ups was unknown to me. Pods, then greens were my first clears. I remember I got out of swarms of baiters, I think I got to 10, or 12, on Defender. Always seemed like the controls weren’t fast enough. Dude some multiple reverses where I parked humans in a row was beyond sick. I was listening to 2112 lost in that game. Great memories. Never met anyone better than me, but damn you’re all right.
Great score, the game itself never quite surpassed Defender. Lots of great additional new ideas like the Stargate and warp, inviso and a few hidden easter eggs like bonus 2000 for landing a human on the surface as you collect it, but the firebombers are too tedious to fight the the firebomber showdown and dogfight waves are not really a fun game experience. It's a shame they didn't do something with the pickups for the challenge waves as the essence of Defender / Stargate gameplay is with the pickups.
I know no one cares, but back in the day I got over 9 million on Stargate. The store was closing and I spent 20 minutes crashing all the ships I had earned so I could enter my info on the high score.
@glanyan5462 I would consider you a worthy opponent back in the day. The most I played to was about 12.9M. The reset in difficulty after wave 255 was cool, wasn't it? Good Times...
@@glanyan5462 I'm saying I do care about your high score. Congratulations. And I've seen people with my own eyes getting those kind of scores, so I'm not calling B.S. on your claim.
@@EJRichardsonFubara I don't remember what wave # was the most difficult, but I remember when it got to that point I was just flying and firing like a bat out of hell. It was crazy, but I finally survived it. When you got 12.9M, did the score flip at 10M? (I was worried about that and not having any proof of my approx 8 hour effort.)
@@MegaSpriggsy Thanks. I'm in my late 50's now, so long games are becoming harder on the body. My game has changed somewhat over the years, I used to play Stargate as Defender with an extra button, but I later realized that I was missing Stargates emphasis on saving humanoids. This game averaged just shy of 19k per wave, whereas before I was probably averaging 4-5k less than that. I've found it makes for a bit more of a relaxing game without losing too much pace.
What’s your strategy for dealing with stages after wave 10? I can do my warps and get 250k but after wave 10 I just find myself averaging 8k points or even 5k points a life. Just a slow bleed out. Would love to hear your tips.

The Stargate itself helps you get to the humanoids getting picked up and can allow you to jump over some waves at the beginning. Inviso acts like a shield against anything coming your way. Your score flips over after 10M instead of at 1M. No bonus glitch for everything you hit between 990 000 and 1M, nor for everything you hit between 9 990 000 and 10M.
@@EricPetersen2922 I dont think so. You can hear a Windows alert sound before he starts the game. This is likely being emulated and not on original hardware. Still extremely impressive!
I mean, really - there aren't any sound effects in the history of classic arcade games better than Williams.
that is 100% accurate statement. Defender, Stargate, Robotron. and very vibrant signature graphics
And you heard them anywhere you were in the arcade. This, Joust, Robotron...all amazing.

Excellent job staying patient. It’s so easy to just blast your way through this game and Defender too.

This was the loudest game in the arcade, great memories

Nice score. One of the toughest games for its time. Spent many a coin on this muthah. Good job.
I must have spent over 10000 in quarters on this game in junior high... :) You can buy the entire machine today for about $2200 bucks.

Well, the arcade game has six buttons and a joystick (and the 1-player and 2-player buttons), so I can understand the remark 😂

Disable the inviso button and it is a MUCH better game.

Definitely an LCD panel with smoothing on an emulator. I'm guessing simplified modern controls with a joystick.

Just a slight bit of cheating I see. Only a few extra lives. 😂
You gain one extra life every 10,000 points.
