  • A quick review of the new features in Lelit’s brand new Bianca V3 and if it is a worthwhile upgrade from V2.
    Update: After more extensive testing, the optimized warm up time is more incremental than my initial tests. On average my machine is ready to brew and steam in ~14.5 minutes. On brew only mode (no steam), the machine is ready to brew ~12 minutes.

    i was going back and forth about V2 or V3 but at the end i go with V2 and didn't regret it. in my country the difference between V2 and V3 around $400, which is a lot and i put that extra $400 to buy 65mm flat burr, eureka oro mignon for $700. in my opinion, just get the V2 and better grinder 😉

    I think the electronic flow profiling is great for people who co-use the machine with a less enthusiastic person. My girlfriend can pull a shot on a dialed in machine but that's about it. She is not interested in using a flow paddle and that's fine. If I set up the machine with a certain profile however, I do all the work for her and allow her to make great espresso without having to dive into it as a hobby, while the machine still allows me to geek out with maximum control over brew parameters.

      Yes, I plan on testing if the sudden step function change from low flow to high flow and vice versa changes the taste compared to the more gradual curve when changing manually using the paddle. I am guessing the difference will be subtle.

    Hi Warren, helpful and interesting video - Hadn’t realised they had brought out a new version until I saw this. Now it may actually be just like you said and the result of differences in the terminology used to describe features between different manufacturers, but on other machines that have Temperature Off-Set the feature is a means by which you can increase or decrease the water temperature reaching the E61 Group compared to the temperature measured at the boiler (rather than varying the temperature during the shot). So say you live in a particularly cold climate or in the winter, then it is possible the set temperature (measured in the boiler) results in slightly colder water reaching/coming out of the group - so the Off-Set feature enables you to compensate. However once set this is an always on adjustment, rather than altering the temperature mid way through the shot. That said I haven’t read the Lelit website, so their version of Temperature Off-Set may be totally different i.e. like you described. Would be interested to hear your thoughts if it is different to how it’s done on other machines though 👍

    • @warrenszen1291
      @warrenszen1291  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you describe is a separate setting on Bianca in the advanced LCC settings, i.e. the difference between the temperature in the boiler and at the grouphead. The new temperature offset feature I describe is confirmed by Lelit to be intended to vary the temperature mid-brew. How well that actually works in reality is something I have been testing but have not had enough time to complete as I have been traveling and unfortunately away from my Bianca. Based on initial testing, however, I will say it is not likely to be a game-changing feature as I speculated in the video.

    Hi! Good video, thanks. Just wanted to mention that there should be more changes, also physical. For example, I understand that the steam and hot water wand bases should be extending further out from the machine, reducing clanking the wands into the stainless front plate. I have Bianca V2 and that is a welcome change. Also I wonder if the V3 has internal changes to relay controlling the rotary pump, like solid state relay to aide in the automatic pressure profiling... That seems the simplest way compared to real VFD if they can handle motor inductivity and would also mean the pump starts quietly without a relay clang. With a baby in the house, this again a would constitute a welcome change.

    • @warrenszen1291
      @warrenszen1291  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karl, the steam and hot water base extension actually was a "minor" update that occurred some time in May/June 2021 and was still considered V2. You can see 1st-Line's videos on that for further discussion. V3 does have new software to control the automatic pressure profiling, but the way it controls it from a hardware level is not through motor inductivity at the pump but rather from a new solenoid valve that shifts in between the low flow and high flow modes. When shifting from high flow to low flow there is a slight noise, but it is very quiet and unless you are right next to the machine is pretty much indistinguishable from the overall pump sound. The overall pump noise itself to my knowledge has not changed at all compared to V2.

    Great and clear introduction for showing up these new fueatures. For low flow function is amazing and most interested to me, what pump pressure during low flow mode?
    I heard there's a sound of switching from pump, quite curious on how does it work of the function, thanks.

    • @warrenszen1291
      @warrenszen1291  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pump pressure in low flow mode is about 4-5 bar, vs. 9-10 bar in high flow mode. Based on my understanding, there is a new solenoid valve that actually switches between the two flow modes when combined with the new software in the LCC.

    Thanks so much for the video! Excited about the V3 Bianca! I am curious, are there any other modifications made to the outside of the machine? When considering the V2, a lot of people say the edges are sharp and not well machined -- and the steam wands can scratch the facing. Were these things addressed in the V3? I appreciate the video :)

    • @MM0SDK
      @MM0SDK 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The steam and water valves are longer on the V3 so no more scratching apparently. I'm still trying to decide on Bianca v3 vs ECM Syncronika. I just love the valves and build on the ECM but prefer features of Bianca.

    • @warrenszen1291
      @warrenszen1291  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As of around May 2021, V2 also introduced the longer steam and water valves, so there is no difference between V3 and V2 on the exterior. The steam wands will not scratch the facing on either. I have never had a V2, but based on my understanding there is no significant change in the machining between V2 and V3. There are some sharp-ish edges that I do think could stand to be rounded. However, the fit and finish is tight so I really have to go looking for those edges and dig my fingers into them to feel it. I wouldn't worry at all about cutting yourself on either V2 or V3.

    Hi again Warren - Forgot to ask: can you confirm if the Version 3 came with the brew boiler factory set to 9 bar or if (like many complained of on earlier versions) you had to manually adjust it down to 9 bar using the adjustment screw? Would be interesting to know if Lelit have been listening to this customer feedback and implemented this change

    • @warrenszen1291
      @warrenszen1291  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Factory OPV pressure remains at 10-10.5 bar and you will need to adjust it down if you prefer it lower. It's not difficult to change, but personally I have felt no need to because of the flow control paddle. I have found that when I open my FC valve to the 3 o'clock position (i.e. not quite fully open) I reach 9 bar of pressure at the group head, which to me is a nice, comfortable position to anchor to. I suspect Lelit also wanted to give owners a little head room so that you could increase flow for a faster shot in the instances where you grind just a little too fine and need a little extra pressure. In any case, I have emailed Lelit in the past and their customer service has always been prompt and excellent, so I have no doubt they take customer feedback seriously. I have seen other owners talk about the OPV pressure in the past, but as for me, the factory setting is a feature and not a bug, and my guess is there was serious thought already put in by Lelit into making it so.

    • @IvanBikes
      @IvanBikes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, I feel the same way. At first I thought it was strange to be factory set to 10 bar but it is very natural to place the paddle at 3 o clock which is about 9 bar.

      In my later testing, I have found that it takes about 14.5 minutes to heat up for both brew and steam, and 12 minutes for brew only. The group head temperature, which I have tested separately using an external sensor, is actually fully heated and stabilized within that time frame as well. @@jwb1227 touchy. There is nothing snide in our comments. Just factual observations. Check out the san Remo You as an example of where things will be heading in the future as innovation in the commercial sector trickles down to the domestic market. Long over due

      Your comment is irrelevant and bitter. I just expressed my opinion. Better, more visible readings on interface would be an advantage because many people hasn't got eyes as sharp as yours.

      @@jwb1227 indeed I agree these machines are a lot of money. The San remo you and cube are both domestic machines, and are priced accordingly. The slayer is a work of art, stunning piece of industrial design. But 14k$ to make coffee at home is a huge investment and like you, not one I’m able or prepared to do. Cost is the reason why I want to make sure the purchase of any machine should be a long term investment. To last at least a decade. This industry is at an interesting intersection I think. I was initially taken by the idea of 61 group head. But I know I wouldn’t buy a car, tv or typewriter that uses design innovations from the early 60s. So decided to keep searching. If you watch some of the videos on commercial machines it’s very Clear the new sensors and tech they have represent a dramatic improvement. The SR You is first domestic machine I’ve seen that pulls that into the home machine. It’s still damn expensive though. And hence want to see more info etc before considering buying. If it’s still not worth the extra expense I might stay completely analogue.
