I hope to see some good battles between Hooper, Tom and Mateusz going forward. Thor too if he gets his pressing back in the game. I was just so glad Tom and Mateusz got on the podium. All three of them being the only ones to 4+ the Appollons and then do at least the first two stones in that medley was huge.

I think Tom could be close. Maybe some of the others too. But it's really hard, especially for the more seasoned guys, to breach the mental barrier. If you know that even if you smoke that event, you'll end up 4th or 5th or whatever, then it's not worth the tax on the central nervous system, injury risk, mental fatigue etc. I'm very happy Mateus is one of the few that really gives it a lot of effort, win or lose, always grinding at it.

IMO the women's division is almost more exciting right now. The men's is so well established at this point that we know who's good at what and we generally know the upper limits of what's possible on any given event. But the women's is still the wild West and people come out and unexpectedly demolish world records or come from nowhere with hype and pull something like Angelica did on the stones. We expect Mateusz to do what he does on the stones but to see one of the women come out and pull the same type of performance is awesome.

Great performances by Hooper and Mateusz. Hafthor looks like he ran out of gas. Martins looks like his head was somewhere else in this comp. Evan needs to decide if he wants to win or just be a crowd favorite. He hurt himself on the axle because he got too jacked up. Awesome job by Sam to get that dumbbell. I really like the pace of the comp with the Men's and Women's running intertwined. Sad that there was no wheel of pain.

Hafthor doesn’t have the upper body strength back for the pressing stuff yet, and he kind of knows it. He was saying in all his lead up vlogs that he could only manage maybe 1-3 reps on the Apollon and that the stone press would be a nightmare. That happens every year at the Arnold's. It's a really heavy show, which means not only heavy events but heavy training. And I call the elephant bar the hamstring reaper, that thing is perfectly designed to tear a hammy right off the bone. It's fun and all but it carries a huge risk, you have to sit back into the lift and pull slowly through the hardest part of the lift which loads the hamstrings like a sumbitch. We've seen it for years.

Nah I don't think so, Thor pretty much gave career performances in the 1st 3 events and still was only tied for the lead with what was just another day for Mitch.
Even with a healed pec, he's dropping multiple points in the Axel (his pr is 4 I believe) any less than 4 he's dropping 4pts. He then has the stones to make everything up. No one is beating Mateusz, I don't see enough athletes there that he could hope to get between him n Mitch, probably only Tom.
This was probably Thors best chance to beat Mitch, I doubt he's gonna career best the 1st 3 events ever again.

Coming second for Mateaus again, BUT... ahead of Tom Stoltman, and ahead of Thor, has to be nicer feeling second than some. Were it not for the current phenom, would've been first. Great return for Mateaus, and for Thor. To lift that 1000lbs as he did, looking like he could literally rep it if he wanted - shocking. Highlight for me was the ladies winner just manhandling that stone to shoulder like it was a kitten. Many great highlights this weekend, and the Arnold's shows again that it is top tier when it comes to putting on events. Thor lacking the flexibility to rest the axel his chest so when he dips for leg drive he either absorbs that drive in his shoulders or loses position (similar but different issue pressing the stone). Mateusz's dominance on the stone to shoulder is just preposterous. Most guys can't get a single rep and the guys who can can't manage to do two. We've seen Mateusz do between 3 and 5 every time he steps up to it. Imagine winning any other for-reps event by reliably getting 4x as many as all the next best guys. It's inconceivable. Not only should they rename the stone after him but they should engrave his face on it. So he's staring down everyone who ever lifts it, daring them to match him.

Hooper is a FREAK. Well deserved win.
    Martins was off form.
Mateus was on form. He did excellent on every event, and made improvements on the deadlift. Looking forward to seeing him later in the year.
Thor gassed out. He should have had second place.
Evan and Andrea exploded, should have done better.
Tom did really well. His save on the dinnie walk was crazy.
Bobby did very well, considering his competition and these events.
I think this comp would have been better with slightly different events . The dumbbell for the women, dinnie and stone medley for the men weren't great, but still it was very entertaining.

Either way best one off performance of the show has to be the stone medley, three is just unreal. BIG question that bothered the hell out of me while watching: Were you under the impression that Andrea could not drop down to a lighter dumbbell after failing the heavier one? Cause Melissa did just that, and it was allowed. She failed the heaviest one first, then dropped down on the next attempt. Very confusing rules that no one seemed to fully understand, and inconsistent refereeing did not help the matter. Sorry for Andrea, she had such a great first day.

What an absolute rollercoaster event the Arnold’s was. As a fan it was fantastic. Thor was back, and for the fans that was always going to be a highlight. The Terminator was back with a bang, not quite back to his old best yet, but his performances on the axel and stone medley was amazing. Let’s hope his improvement continues and no more injuries. I have started feeling almost sad when I see Big Tom compete now. One minute he excites and then another time he doesn’t quite deliver. I would love to see him achieve his potential even if he never wins another WSM. But to continually see him not achieving that potential is frustrating to say the least. He has potential untapped as of yet. We only see snippets of what he is capable of and he has the potential to dominate like Thor has and Brian Shaw and Big Z. As for The Moose, what can you say. Great athlete, insanely strong, well rounded, ferocious competitor and definitely the most cerebral strongman out there. An absolute pleasure to follow on social media and a bigger pleasure to watch him compete. Team Loz did good there.
The womens performances were up there with the mens. So exciting to watch and great to see them getting the exposure on the big stages they deserve. Lucy Underdown was a revelation. What a performance. A shame she fell just short at the end. But she must take encouragement from this performance. Stroll on Arnold’s UK. I was bitterly disappointed for Andrea Thompson. She is a beast, and I love following her. I felt her pain on the dumbbells, which I thought she would smash. Can’t wait to see her come back and show what she can do in two weeks time at the Arnold’s UK.
As always THE best background coverage by Liz who has made this her own. The only thing missing from the Arnold’s was commentary from Big Loz.
