My last two machines have both been combined washer-driers, (Zanussi) and both been extremely reliable, lasting around 15 years each. I prefer to dry stuff outside when possible, but it's nice to have the drier available for winter without taking up the space of a separate machine.
One advantage for combined unit is that you can put clothes in evening and take out the dry clothes in the morning. In that regard, it is much less hassle than a separate units. Also, in my country electricity is 2x cheaper at night, so with the combined unit you can take an advantage of that too.
I have separate LG washer and dryer which are stacked together. You can have both stacked if they are from similar manucturer. They come with stacking kit. Perhaps you need to mention this as it saves space. Convenient for those with tight space suitable for those living in apartments like myself.
Owning both Zanussi and LG combination washer/dryers, the Zanussi was vented to the outside, whereas the LG had a water cooled condenser dryer. I found both machines to be perfect for a household of two. The Zanussi being the smaller of the machines, I used it more often, and it did a better job of drying the clothes because of the venting. Working in an office, my clothes didn't get dirty enough to use anything but the quick wash. Thick towels are the only items that I let fully dry, but seldom used the longer cycles. I started using thinner, smaller bath towels to save time and energy. I learned never to overload, to always separate by types of fabrics, and to always pull clothes out damp, especially shirts and sheets to keep them from wrinkling.
I'm in the same business, and I would say exactly the same things. One thing though, when talking about lint in a combined unit, it can be a bit of a mess to clean it out. You'll need to open up the lid at the bottom, and all the water left in the machine will pour out. I'm sure it depends on brand and model, but I've encountered this on some units. The filter gets clogged and in order to clean it you get a gallon of water on the floor. The same thing really with a washing machine, but on a combo you hade to do it way more often.
you say its a convenience to wash and then put it in the dryer, but for me a HUGE advantage is being able to throw my (1p) weekly wash into the wash n dry combi put on the combi i can leave the house and come back the next day and itll be dry and clean. where as for the washer and dryer seperate you have to be at home to start the dryer seperatly.
i live in an apartment and had no option but to buy washer/dryer (normende model) has lasted me 11yrs it works well only thing i dont like is the numbers on the dial as when i want to select a different programme at times i have to refer to the manual to see what number is related to what programme apart from that its good
I have a Hotpoint washer drier due to lack of space but I never use the drier now . I found it to be incredibly inefficient. The washing came out red hot and wrinkly as if it had been baked in an oven. I dry outside if possible and on a clothes drier if not. It’s not ideal but I wouldn’t have another washer drier.
I bought an LG washer drier and I am enjoying using it. I thought long and hard before purchasing as I live in a small apartment. I am use to hanging my clothes on an airer when my separate dryer broke down a few years ago and therefore I only use the dry cycle for bed linen and towels. This has made my life so much easier and has cut down on condensation in my apartment. Not having big items hanging around to dry. Driers can damage the fibres on clothes so I use this function occasionally but it’s there if I need it.
I had x2 in 4 years. All replaced on warranty. I asked for a washing machine only rather than Washer/dryer. It was alwsys a compromise. Almost burned the house down. The dryer heating element was prone to clogging as the lint built up in the fluff soak away. Customer service for LG was extremely good.
@@nomebear incidentally, did you have a washer/dryer or washer? My washer/dryer was replaced twice 3 in total. The forth machine was fine being a washer only. It lasted 7 years. Great product. Also our home was high usage. I believe in a low usage home, the washer/dryer may have lasted the full 2 years.

If space is an issue, there's also the option of a stacked unit, or placing a washer on top of a dryer. But if the issue is both space and lack of hookups, get yourself a combo unit. They're vent less, and can be hooked up to a kitchen/bathroom faucet.
For me the major NO against a combined washer-dryer is the fact that it damages my cloth due to high drying temperature. It also can’t provide a nice finish to my woolen cloth which a separate dryer does. I had quite an expensive model of Miele, but now I am buying a separate dryer
with front loaders you can stack them on top of each other to save floor space, top loaders you can wall mount the dryer above the washer and mount it upside down and bang your head on it until you learn the technique

Yep they suck in general. With most of them I’ve used they make the clothes smell of burning rubber and ruins the smell of the clothes where as a seperate dryer doesn’t do that
If you have solar, washing and drying at the same time is a must, especially in the 4 hour window of usable electricity in the winter. Dedicated non-heatpump dryers are stupid at this point when electricity price skyrocketed.
Nice! I lived alone (now I have my brother with me) and I am very happy with my combined washer. Besides saving space, I don't have to clean lint filters and I can set and forget when I need to wash/dry or I can run a normal wash when I don't need to dry (or run a quick 30 min dry to partially dry my clothes). Since I likely run it, on average, a couple of times per month (maybe 3 or 4 loads?) I am all good even if it takes longer or if it uses more energy than having two devices. Plus, having fibromyalgia, it's one less task in the sense I don't need to move wet/heavy clothes between machines. It's also great to not have to deal with lint or exhaust pipes. Awesome video on the major differences, though! I didn't know there were dryers that don't use resistances to heat the air.
Thank you... very useful video. I have sometimes said that when I needed a new machine I would or might get a washer / dryer ( don't have room for both) but never did. I always wondered if that would be less efficient, and I also don't like how much extra electricity they would use. A few years ago I bought my 1st dehumidifier then at some point changed to a low energy one. It's about 160w and the washing is dry very quickly on an airer. I actually think that if I did get a washer / dryer I'd end up hardly using it due to the power consumption. Just call me Scrooge... 😁
So, you use a dehumidifier in your laundry room to dry everything... I have a large electrical dehumidifier aside from my previous home and never thought it could be used that way. I’ll check the energy difference between the dryer and the dehumidifier.

When I bought my dehumidifier, the manual specifically states "Do not use this for drying laundry." Not quite sure why the warning as 15 years later, it's still functioning and has actually been in the vicinity of a drying rack full of clothes. 🙄
I’ve never had a washer dryer that I’m happy with! The main purposes for me having a tumble dryer, is to take clothes out with no creases, that’s impossible when the machine stays locked after drying!
Condenser tumble dryer saved me. I can't imagine my daily routine without proper dryer(I had a combined Indesit washing and dryer which I didn't use because it's simply not good).

So my fiancé was suggesting that we buy a washer dryer, but I really didn't like that idea. My parents had a oven+microwave combi built in their kitchen and the microwave function broke unrepairably. What do you do then? Keep the combi as just an oven or replace the whole thing even though it's still working fine as an oven? My parents ended up buying a seperate microwave so how much did they win? I managed to convince my fiancé after some further research and coming monday our heat pump tumble dryer will be delivered. It will go in a different part of the house, but that should be no problem. It only needs power.
Why you don’t stand at the front. Also with each machine you show us with the camera closer what brand is the washing machine and where to get the lint out from. Also I don’t understand much about the cost of power as I have always had dryers and I’ll put bigger load in them to dry the max would be an hour or hour 1:15 but with Samsung they tend to put less items and the machine runs for hours to dry. So does this mean my drying bill will be higher to the double to dry the clothes. Or it dries slowly but it still energy efficient and will cost the same electricity like any other machine
I reccomend seperatw because combo one cant do 2 things together in good quality actually i always buy lg washer only and hang because drying with machines are not recomended by doctors 😊
Washer dryers are more complex and likely to go wrong. I used to have one, it failed one day after the warranty expired. Consider whether you would repair or replace if there is a fault.
@@lords-electrical I managed to repair it myself. The mains filter was wet because a seal had been installed incorrectly. It eventually failed after a few more years and I went for separate washing machine and tumble dryer.
Ofcourse its better to buy a washer and a dryer. Washers and dryers last longer, quicker, more care better dry results, washing and drying more at once etc... But its very good if you don't have enough space.

I live in an old house (168 years old) with limited kitchen space and as my current washing machine is broken, I'm going to go for a combined washer/dryer ( I live alone so, probably 4 loads per month and I air dry when possible in summer). I'm prepared to spend for quality and longevity and have almost settled for a choice of a Miele WTR860WPM PWash&TDos 8/5 kg. Have you any experience of this? I can't seem to find any user reviews online and hoping your knowledge and experience in the trade might help. Thanks in advance.
This was a Great video! I am considering this type of Combo unit, but I am wanting a more powerful drying system. They all seem to have great features, but take a LOOOONG time (some up to 6 hours) to start and complete a load of laundry. I'd like something that matches the washing and drying time of separate units.
Do these come with 220v? Do they come with a vented/ventless option? What Brand or Model do you recommend that is a bit more robust, closer to a industrial version?

I only buy separates I dislike washer dryer . In my experience the clothes come out looking all screwed with bad Creases. It’s a nightmare and they seem to take forever to dry and don’t iron well. So I end up re washing them to get Creases out. I Will only buy separate machines

I was gonna say the same thing. I had a hotpoint one. It washed the clothes fine but as a dryer it was a nightmare. Took hours for even the smallest load and everything came out creased up to buggery. I’ve got a BEKO condenser dryer now and it is brilliant!
Do the machines run in opposite directions when they wash clothes, and dry? Are the instructions in English, not some foreign Metric language like UK? Does the electrical wiring go from the machine to outlet/outlet to machine, since everything in the UK is backwards?

My Zanussi and my LG Combo washer/dryer were very quiet. Using them in the evening was not an issue.
You should not leave dyers on at night or when you go out. Advice by the Fire Service in the UK is never to leave dryers unattended.

oh and trust me, the firemen wont be there in time to prevent your house from having a LOT of fire damage.

If it's a day out of warranty, I would get it repaired or at least speak to the manufacturer to see if they are willing to help first.

The water that is stored in a container in a normal dryer is exited through the waste hose of a washer dryer.
