The reason the piano feels panned is because when recording a real piano, there would be a mic on the bass strings and another on the treble strings. Spitfire did that to add realism to the keys, but I think it would have been better to make that optional. They've also got a Cello, Drums, Strings, a Guitar and a few other instruments now. And I agree, it's a great piano! *MINOR CORRECTION:* Not _ALL_ Spitfire LABS products are free. Spitfire LABS is the equivalency of PLAY6 or Kontakt.
@LifeWhy Music-- Actually all Labs Libraries are free. They used to do a donation based system with proceeds going to charity, but a year or two ago they bundled every thing they had made to that point, sold it as a product for $10, and then started fresh releasing individual Labs instruments for Free. They did start using their own plugin. They are up to 9 instruments now (Frozen Strings just dropped this morning).
I love the soft piano. I used its previous incarnation from the old Labs to score an American short film. This new one is heavily present in the piano album I just released. The mod wheel control decreases how velocity affects the notes being played, 100% means all notes play at their loudest regardless of one's playing.
Mod depth (and rate) is really good for adding character and realism to a reverb. Nice advice on this video! Reverb is also such a interesting topic in and of itself
I loooove this piano. Recently finished a short film that features this instrument extensively in the main theme. Gonna be sharing some behind the scenes scoring videos through Evenant in the New Year to show how and where I've used it. :)
Man, that's very cool! to get something from spitfire for free is bombastic, even free stuff sounds amazing :) new challenge - create a full cinematic track using only free LABS instruments :)
That's a very interesting sound. Could work for a "terminal" track, or the last track of an album. Or even for a soundtrack for a powerful and emotionnal scene. Certainly going to download it :D Thanks for the tutorial, Alex!
Would you be willing to explain (or point me to) how you use the X-Y-Z controller for controlling your reverb. Is the Z control linked to the send amount for your reverb?
I make hardstyle, and yet I still enjoy your videos a lot, I enjoy the things you show us here and I feel like I do learn a lot of amazing stuff :) Thank you for your hard and amazing work.
I have a question and u get so many and I doubt u will see it but how do u do the velocity for the notes? Do you do it manually and such? If so you have any tips on what direction to actually go with it and kinda the direction to do velocity? I struggle with it so much but I know it makes the pianos and such sound way better. Especially with chords.
Hey Alex! I downloaded the Soft Piano plugin you mentioned here and have been facing problems with it. On higher notes (C5 and above) it's been making really unpleasant clicking sounds - like someone tapping on a key really clumsily. I tried setting reverb to 0 but no luck...
I wanna start of by saying thank you for all great content! I Have a weird problem i cant seem to fix while using Midi Outputs in FL Stuidio. When using multiple instances after a certain point new Midi channels doesnt stay routed to their given instruments and new instruments are played all at once in that given midi track. This problem presists even when opening a whole new kontakt with diffirent inputs for midi, Since i frequently see you use both multiple kontakts and way more instruments i hope you might have the insight needed to fix this issue. Any help appriciated. Thank you!
Because he added a $50 reverb on the free piano. 😑 I came here for the best free piano vst ever from a Producer Grind link and found out the piano sounds better with the $50 vst plugin ValhallaShimmer lol
Room indeed, Shimmer can be used to enhance insturments / sounds, but it will not sound natural. If you need a reverb to put your orchestra in a "stage", then Valhalla Room is what you want.

You can always throw on an Ozone Imager and put it in mono, then stereoize it yourself.
@@benalarid8485 I thought these were for LABS, but I stand corrected.
I better go scoop up that Frozen Strings though. Thanks man :)
They are all free.

Would do a great job in the Interstellar soundtrack
Thank you so much, I will watch all videos on your channel, you're best
There's something funny with my webcam in this video, but it's too late to fix it. :P

Sounds great, nice find!

That piano sound is lovely! Thanks, Alex :)
Love this library! I use this and Woodchester Piano when soft piano is needed :)
I just pick that up myself. It's fantastic!
All of their LABS stuff is awesome!
Good job bro! Thanks for this amazing video!

For Panning there is another very good plugin for free named Ambeo 8D its much easier than Fruitys XYZ Controller and you can also pan up an down
Noob here. What is the software that you are using?
I try it, but the piano is super quiet, even after cranking up all volume sliders I could find.
But how it's in mix, because the sound is so soft?
London will make you sick 😪

I have 50€. Valhalla Shimmer or Rooms for epic orchestral music ? :)
Rooms is the more basic one. Should be a more versatile starting product!
So.. Rooms? ^^@@nilstarlight
