For me, that Batman frame is meaningful cause it's the thing I immediately associated with CRM the first few times I watched the videos. Carlos, I'm happy to see it behind you again, where it should always be. like a watchful guardian.... I tell ya, it's been a tough few days for the watch world. Negativity on top of negativity. If you follow the other channels, the various competitors and other commentators, (the comuuuuunity as some people like to call it), the bickering has been intertwined with misunderstandings and other disputes. God it's good to find CRM again! The positive and inspiring Fridays of Carlos and his family have never been so necessary. I'll say it again: CRM MUST be the light. The standard to follow. The leader of the pack. A breath of fresh air in all this demotivating hubbub. If our soul is injured, CRM is the perfect bandage. Again this week, the grace of the Gods touches our favorite family and warms our hearts. The customers are happy, some even going so far as to offer a moving gift. And the brief segment on betty's tears of pride reminds us that what matters most is and always will be family. The conclusion of this video where you read the bad comments could have worried me but I forgot something: Dan is here. This outstanding leader is in perfect control, as always. He will never let this miserable negativity reach CRM. This quiet leader is at the helm, which should reassure anyone that this beloved family business will always be ready. Last week episode was all about falling Rolex prices yet this week a 41MM Sub date is offered by Carlos at $19k, a ND Sub for $17k, and a Hulk for $32k these prices are on the higher end of spectrum even when the market was at its peak few months ago!
Wasn't the guy also saying that the prices were "up" for months but he never actually SOLD any at those prices? So we see lower prices now because these things started hitting a ceiling. And we're still at the peak in prices. It will pull back more, too. But what good is a pullback really? Kinda stupid to be rooting for one anyway... "Oh, gee wiz! The $50,000 watch that I have always wanted has dropped from $250,000 to only $175,000! What a deal! That's so much better!" Ha! Ha! Ha!
What a lot of people don't realize is watches are 'assets' like cars, crypto, property, stocks. With the largest affecting the smallest, stocks and property shot through the roof in 20/21. Now they are all correcting so those wishing for a crash are actually wishing for a recession. On the other hand, I do disagree with how Authorized Dealers in both the car and watch world are behaving; 'buy these 3 things you don't want and you might get one you want.' They should just simply auction them off for 'market price' which would generate more cash and be fairer however that is unlikely as breaks this 'hype' marketing trend. On the grey market adding liquidity, yes it does however many dealers/collectors do try to corner the market to drive up prices in certain pieces, FP Journes being a current example as there's so little liquidity.
Agree with everything you said. You make great points. Cornering the market, however, is as old as time and participants always try to do it when the liquidity of the underlying instruments is relatively low (like watches).
@@Crmjewelers frankly i have more of a problem with ADs doing this, what i call stack selling pieces, but sometimes you've gotta get rid of stale stock, bundling i think is better means of handling it, it achieves the same goal, but you aren't creating hurdles, making the customer wait, they just grab the cluster all at once. Many times you have to buy one, wear it for some months or whatever, take pictures, yada yada, theeeeen you get the one you were after and that's dumb to me, i get why they do it, but its like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
I was in Miami this past weekend and had planned on stopping by the store to meet the CRM familia but unfortunately, I sprained my foot on Saturday and became immobile. I drove by the store on Friday night to see the location and was excited to go in on Monday, but my injury prohibited a visit. I’m bummed out about that so I’ll just have to continue enjoying the channel online instead. 😔
My industry the Cannabis Industry has been going thru the same BS. Covid surged prices and demand to 3k a pacc, everyone rushed to enter or expand and shit crashed to 1k a pacc with overproduction everywhere. No end in sight and uncertainty. Hopefully things will change
Part of the problem is a watch has now been considered an investment like stocks. They were never designed to be that way! People who don’t like or care about watches are buying thinking they will get rich☹️
I hear you Mike and agree that they weren't originally designed to be investments, but the same holds true for a lot of collectibles. Original intent does not go in the same direction as demand sometimes. In the last few years, speculation in watches has been rampant, but even during the years and decades before, certain models do appreciate over time, sometimes attractively. This naturally makes watches a great collectible for a lot of people.
No one is being forced to pay over retail prices in any branche..... It's the buyer"s decision, so never ever blame the seller! I bought my house of which increased more than 40% in nearly 15 years, that's the market in property.... My Daytona went up 7 times from my purchase price at AD , yes I was lucky at that time to buy it . The market today is that you nearly can find a Rolex ,Ap , P F etc. at the AD Again...... It's the buyer who decides ..... not the seller! Great content on your channel , love to watch it every episode. Stay healthy and wish you good sales in a up or low market! I doubt that it is always necessarily easy money for the grey market dealers as the one who buy stock do take some non negligible risks as the market may remain stable, rise or drop… It’s classic business.
Nobody is getting tricked, fool. That's the point. The market moves, people react, nobody is predicting the future. They pay what they perceive the watch to be worth at the time they buy it. Period.

The call representing the client from Spain sounds totally fraudulent. If I wanted to buy $1 million of watches, I am showing up in person. Plus Miami is a tourist destination city all over the world. Carlos was polite & professional, the guy on the phone thought he was dealing with a novice.
No hate at all from me. But it is time to be careful and keep your inventory tight and move it quickly. Many decades ago I worked for a company that made industrial products out of gold, silver, platinum and platinum group metals. When we built our first plant to produce Ford catalytic converters we built it next to a small airport in Alabama and had two Lear's that brought the platinum and palladium in each shift for that shifts production. Why? Charlie Englehard was nobodies fool and he didn't want to be sitting on an inventory of very expensive metals that could go up or go down in a heart beat. So decades before anyone thought of 'just in time' purchasing he was practicing it. I would expect this is a great time to be doing a lot of consignment business and keep the owned inventory low.

I like the round table discussion on the state of the watch market starting around 43:45 in this video. I don’t think the comments are serious about doing harm, but really reflect people’s frustration with the shortage of sports steel watches at the AD. There are plenty of watches to buy if you can afford the market price. Several quick observations: 1. Nobody can ever fight Mr. Market in any industry. 2. The frustration with CMR and other successful Grey market dealers is akin to the anger fans feel when their team is favored and the team loses. Their anger is taken out on the stars of the team for not winning, not the owner. 3. The frustration is caused because buying a Rolex is only for a select few at the AD. If Rolex wanted to give everyone a chance to buy its watches, it would let a customer place an order and wait until it is built at the factory, like Tesla does. This would also cut way back on one flipper getting access to many watches to flip so more customers can own the watch they want to wear at an affordable price. 4. If you listen to TH-cam videos, there are Grey market dealers hoarding hard to get pieces anticipating their prices to go up. This further chokes supply and adds to buyer’s frustration. CMR is providing a valuable service in the market place and does not deserve the hate, but CMR needs to recognize that mechanical watches should not only be for people who are rich.
I agree with you wholeheartedly my friend. However, demand is difficult to control. It has driven everything out of control. It's a combination of multiple factors. No one alone can stop or start it. 🤷

Dear Carlos, two standouts watch wise today that I would love to see follow up’s on. First, the gentleman who brought in his mothers Rolex for service and bracelet refurbishment. I would love to see the end result as for me an heirloom watch is the most valuable watch in the world, emotion and family are priceless . I was fortunate enough to nurse my mum through the last eight years of her life. When she passed her wedding ring came to me. This ring originally was my Grandmothers and the gold for it was panned for in the mountain streams of Wales in the U.K. and was then made into two rings for their wedding and the original engraving is still there, MJBD 5.5.15( my grandmothers initials and the wedding date in 1915). I have no family any more so the ring will go with me when I pass. It never leaves my finger and is the most important material thing in my life, the memories are tangible. Also, recently I was so blessed to be given a 1980’s Omega Constellation by the family of a wonderful gentleman I cared for for a number of years ( I work as a live in nurse). He. Passed just after Christmas at the grand old age of 99, I have always worked the Christmas period as the other nurse has family so was fortunate to be with him when he passed. He wore that watch every day since getting it as a retirement gift in the 80’s. The family know I love watches. It is well worn and shows that wear and age and I will wear it feeling very blessed to have known the old chap and each scratch on it means so much to me as he created them. I am always humbled by witnessing the love you all share as a family, it’s beautiful! The second thing and please excuse the long message, could you please show us more of that exquisite split seconds blue dial Patek. It is such a beautiful understated watch that I think most people would have no idea how incredibly special it is. I love watches that fly under the radar but if you know, you know! Regarding the watch that the son brought in during our last episode to fix for his mother, the bracelet is beyond repair according to our watchmaker. That's unfortunate, so it's going to have to be replaced. We still want to record a separate video of the repairs and overhaul, but we're awaiting the client's instructions. Here is the situation. Most folks assume that grey market dealers buy the watches at retail and sell them at premium which is NOT the case. You need to explain this to your viewers. Dealers get their new hot watches 2 ways. Either from a customer who paid retail and is demanding a premium. In this case the customer gets to keep the extra profit. The other way is package purchases with ADs to get hot pieces. Like buying gold Chopard or Omega Deville and other undesirables inventory from ADs for the privilege to get a few hot pieces. The only winners are either the Ads for getting more business on jewelry or other dead inventory and sometimes the occasional lucky customer who scores a hot piece. Either way it’s not the gray dealer benefiting from this. Rolex is not benefiting either. You have to remember that ADs get the prices at 38-40% off retail so on a Sub for example Rolex makes 5-6k. That’s it!!!! They don’t even benefit financially for this madness. The main beneficiaries are the ADs and as such they hold the power and unfortunately treat most customers like crap because they don’t need to even try hard. Customers get mad and post stupid comments against used dealers as if it is their fault.
The CRM family is the best here. Being from Martinique, my father having had a boat packing up all the gang, etc... I can definitely relate to my brothers from Cuba. We had the same atmosphere at home with family, friends, food, music, rhum, smiles and fun each day. You are excellent people as well as many other watches & jewellery resellers or grey market dealers if you prefer. You are definitely not to blame trying to make a living through economic ups & downs like everyone else. People who believe the grey market dealers are to blame are wrong, things do change with ups and downs. Grey market dealers did not make the watch market but the available liquidities surplus decided by central banks, etc... very much did. Now, the massive money printing or "quantitative easing" led to humongous liquidities with virtually no tangible collateral. This excess cash liquidity meant that it has to be used / spent towards stuff, some of it goes into watches which, because of a sudden increased demand, artificially led to some popular models becoming relatively rare, again because of demand... An artificially fuelled rarity. Similarly, it propelled many other asset classes valuations to stratospheric highs. Dan pretty well knows that. So much that during that period some watches became commoditised / speculative supports, investment grade as well as a way to "park" i.e. protect one's money... All of this makes for a rather perilous proposal as it cannot be sustainable ad infinitum. Prior to this frenzy, watches, including the most popular models, were mostly consumer items with depreciation curves prior to hit the vintage category appreciation curve after some years exactly like classic and vintage cars... Classic and vintage cars also became commodities, art too, real estate too, ... it all became a business with its inherent risks. An excessive amount of money has been printed, that's it's a massive fraud by the people who decided upon it _ these people must be thrown to jail. That's pretty much the equivalent of putting free self-service cocaine stands across everywhere; people get high, soon they have become addicts. That's fine for a time, until the supply dries out... I feel that pretty soon we may all _ not grey market watches dealers but all i.e. everybody including the rancid commenters blaming you guys _ be adversely affected by a massive monetary correction / hyper-inflation or worse, devaluation. It's not grey market dealers to blame but governments and central bankers ! These racid commenters should think about their own karma... as wishing bad to others who do not harm means that one day they necessarily will get the harm...

That opening call reminded me of the story that I saw somewhere -- was it Carlos or Charlie who recounted it on a past episode? -- of a lady dealer who got convinced to bring a lot of high end watches to Italy for a supposedly-wealthy collector that she had had lots of contact with. They set her up in a nice hotel, met her in a beautiful palazzo, showed off their collection, told her to leave the watches with him so he could decide which to buy... and the next day, boom, guy is gone, watches are gone, police shrug their shoulders.
The way this business/ family company runs is like a AP/Rolex/Patek Philippe, very smooth. An a tune up might need to be done to a person who messes up. Love your channel, besides watch repair videos. Not sure you get the joke I was trying to make but yeah you guys are killing it on the watch market, and I’ve learned more from watching from y’all than any other channels. Historically, they have, albeit at a much slower rate. What happened during the last 3 years took even Rolex by surprise. They had never seen anything like it before, but then again, no one else had either. 🤷

I agree with everything you’re saying about MSRP and market values but I know from being In the car business for 22 years none of you guys liked that for a the past 3 years dealerships had market adjustments on new cars and selling them over MSRP. For me watches aren’t investments. I buy them because I like to wear them. When people treat them as investments it take away from the passion. It becomes about money instead of the love of the watches. The flippers just ruin it for me
I hear you man and respect your opinion, but at the end of the day, this is all about personal objectives and preferences, not about absolute truths about the goodness or lack thereof of watch buyers. Life is too short to take things so personally sometimes. 🤷
Actually, there is 2 group of watch dealers. Those that do all models and accept the crazy prices and those that never wanna put their business in that kind of inventory. It's a choice. But things have to come back to senses. I will buy a 250 thousand tourbillon but not a PP5711 although at one time they are price the SAME! So for a responsible grey market dealer, u need to warn the customer the situation and not just accept the fact that a 5711 costs 250 thousands.

I started the hobby when grey-market sold at less than RRP. This is the market and it is what it is. Keep doing what you do! You guys are real and honest! Harley did the same thing before 2000. They limited production and you had to get on a waiting list. If you wanted a Harley even though it was used you would pay double but you would have that bike at that point in time. The luxury watch market is going through the same thing, until they ramp up more production you’ll have MSRP and then aftermarket even though they’re preowned. It’s simple supply and demand economics. I think the most important thing here is to understand that we all have a choice. Do I order a watch and wait and pay MSRP or do I get something that is preowned and pay a higher price. It’s a matter of choice. So I wish everyone the best on their choice and the authorized dealers and the gray market dealers.

Fun fact in 2002 I bought a 2003 Mustang GT Premium for 32K while shopping for a steel Rolex Daytona I could buy it at $5800-$6200, 20% of the car price. Today that same 2022 Mustang would be $42K, $8400. Today is that basic steel Daytona worth anywhere near $27-28K. No not in the slightest. This business bumped Luxury retail prices by a much higher margin than basically every other consumer product.
You treat everyone as if they've been your friend for years. If everyone treated each other like this the world would be a much better place. Not saying the world is a bad place but to many people out to hustle people instead of sitting down talking to them and maybe learning who they are.

Fair price is the agreed prices between buyers and sellers. Market will correct itself due to supply and demand so if you felt that the cost is too much then wait if everyone stop buying then the price will come down. If you waited and others are still buying then the price will leveled or creeped up.

I'll dumb this down for people watching so you don't have to CRM, I am actually quite good at doing this because I work with engineer's. 1. A watch is a commodity it will rise and drop in value. What's it made of who made it ? 2. Gold, Sliver , Platinum , Diamonds are all commodities they will rise and drop in value. 3. Oil , food is a commodity they will rise and drop in value. Your team gave great example's of this however it might have been a little over their heads, so I decided to step in and lend a hand. It is very important when dealing with low IQ people to dumb yourself down sometimes, however that can cause head aches and ruin , your day. So I did all the dumbing down for you. You are right to an extent. Anthony did tarnish his reputation, but did not tarnish the hard earned reputation of honest resellers like CMR, and Luxury Bazaar. The long-term grey market dealers have hard earned solid reputations. Buy a watch from CMR and you will know you bought an authentic watch at a fair price. Anthony can’t destroy CMR’s reputation, only his own.
The issue with all these negative comments is simple. CRM is very transparent about buying selling & profits & losing too. Lately there is lots of money to be made in luxury watches. You showed that & people are jealous. They must hate Hermes Birkin bags & LV, Gucci, Montblanc limited editions etc etc. This is part of the luxury market, exclusivity. Just think eBay would not have become a multi billion dollar company if not for the free market. If you don’t like the price, don’t buy or go somewhere else.
Houses,classic cars and stock have been “investment” much much longer then watches. Collectors who are over 25 years collection remember that only 1-2 watches went over retail. Now a lot of watches are over retail. So watches as an investment with “market prices” is relative new. And it’s not how they knew the collecting community from before.

For me, that Batman frame is meaningful cause it's the thing I immediately associated with CRM the first few times I watched the videos. If you follow the other channels, the various competitors and other commentators, (the comuuuuunity as some people like to call it), the bickering has been intertwined with misunderstandings and other disputes. God it's good to find CRM again! The positive and inspiring Fridays of Carlos and his family have never been so necessary. I'll say it again: CRM MUST be the light. The standard to follow. The leader of the pack. A breath of fresh air in all this demotivating hubbub. If our soul is injured, CRM is the perfect bandage. Again this week, the grace of the Gods touches our favorite family and warms our hearts. The customers are happy, some even going so far as to offer a moving gift. Last week episode was all about falling Rolex prices yet this week a 41MM Sub date is offered by Carlos at $19k, a ND Sub for $17k, and a Hulk for $32k these prices are on the higher end of spectrum even when the market was at its peak few months ago!
Wasn't the guy also saying that the prices were "up" for months but he never actually SOLD any at those prices? So we see lower prices now because these things started hitting a ceiling. And we're still at the peak in prices. It will pull back more, too. But what good is a pullback really? Kinda stupid to be rooting for one anyway... "Oh, gee wiz! The $50,000 watch that I have always wanted has dropped from $250,000 to only $175,000! What a deal! That's so much better!" Ha! Ha! Ha!
What a lot of people don't realize is watches are 'assets' like cars, crypto, property, stocks. With the largest affecting the smallest, stocks and property shot through the roof in 20/21. Now they are all correcting so those wishing for a crash are actually wishing for a recession.
On the other hand, I do disagree with how Authorized Dealers in both the car and watch world are behaving; 'buy these 3 things you don't want and you might get one you want.' They should just simply auction them off for 'market price' which would generate more cash and be fairer however that is unlikely as breaks this 'hype' marketing trend.
On the grey market adding liquidity, yes it does however many dealers/collectors do try to corner the market to drive up prices in certain pieces, FP Journes being a current example as there's so little liquidity.
Agree with everything you said. You make great points. Cornering the market, however, is as old as time and participants always try to do it when the liquidity of the underlying instruments is relatively low (like watches).
@@Crmjewelers frankly i have more of a problem with ADs doing this, what i call stack selling pieces, but sometimes you've gotta get rid of stale stock, bundling i think is better means of handling it, it achieves the same goal, but you aren't creating hurdles, making the customer wait, they just grab the cluster all at once.
Many times you have to buy one, wear it for some months or whatever, take pictures, yada yada, theeeeen you get the one you were after and that's dumb to me, i get why they do it, but its like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I was in Miami this past weekend and had planned on stopping by the store to meet the CRM familia but unfortunately, I sprained my foot on Saturday and became immobile. I hear you Mike and agree that they weren't originally designed to be investments, but the same holds true for a lot of collectibles. Original intent does not go in the same direction as demand sometimes. In the last few years, speculation in watches has been rampant, but even during the years and decades before, certain models do appreciate over time, sometimes attractively. This naturally makes watches a great collectible for a lot of people.

No one is being forced to pay over retail prices in any branche..... It's the buyer"s decision, so never ever blame the seller! I bought my house of which increased more than 40% in nearly 15 years, that's the market in property.... My Daytona went up 7 times from my purchase price at AD , yes I was lucky at that time to buy it . The market today is that you nearly can find a Rolex ,Ap , P F etc. at the AD Again...... The call representing the client from Spain sounds totally fraudulent. If I wanted to buy $1 million of watches, I am showing up in person. Plus Miami is a tourist destination city all over the world. Carlos was polite & professional, the guy on the phone thought he was dealing with a novice.

No hate at all from me. But it is time to be careful and keep your inventory tight and move it quickly. Many decades ago I worked for a company that made industrial products out of gold, silver, platinum and platinum group metals. When we built our first plant to produce Ford catalytic converters we built it next to a small airport in Alabama and had two Lear's that brought the platinum and palladium in each shift for that shifts production. Why? Charlie Englehard was nobodies fool and he didn't want to be sitting on an inventory of very expensive metals that could go up or go down in a heart beat. So decades before anyone thought of 'just in time' purchasing he was practicing it. I would expect this is a great time to be doing a lot of consignment business and keep the owned inventory low.

I like the round table discussion on the state of the watch market starting around 43:45 in this video. I don’t think the comments are serious about doing harm, but really reflect people’s frustration with the shortage of sports steel watches at the AD. There are plenty of watches to buy if you can afford the market price. Several quick observations:
1. Nobody can ever fight Mr. Market in any industry.
2. The frustration with CMR and other successful Grey market dealers is akin to the anger fans feel when their team is favored and the team loses. Their anger is taken out on the stars of the team for not winning, not the owner.
3. The frustration is caused because buying a Rolex is only for a select few at the AD. If Rolex wanted to give everyone a chance to buy its watches, it would let a customer place an order and wait until it is built at the factory, like Tesla does. This would also cut way back on one flipper getting access to many watches to flip so more customers can own the watch they want to wear at an affordable price.
4. If you listen to TH-cam videos, there are Grey market dealers hoarding hard to get pieces anticipating their prices to go up. This further chokes supply and adds to buyer’s frustration.
CMR is providing a valuable service in the market place and does not deserve the hate, but CMR needs to recognize that mechanical watches should not only be for people who are rich.
I agree with you wholeheartedly my friend. However, demand is difficult to control. It has driven everything out of control. It's a combination of multiple factors. No one alone can stop or start it. 🤷

Dear Carlos, two standouts watch wise today that I would love to see follow up’s on. First, the gentleman who brought in his mothers Rolex for service and bracelet refurbishment. I would love to see the end result as for me an heirloom watch is the most valuable watch in the world, emotion and family are priceless .
I was fortunate enough to nurse my mum through the last eight years of her life. When she passed her wedding ring came to me. This ring originally was my Grandmothers and the gold for it was panned for in the mountain streams of Wales in the U.K. and was then made into two rings for their wedding and the original engraving is still there, MJBD 5.5.15( my grandmothers initials and the wedding date in 1915). I have no family any more so the ring will go with me when I pass. It never leaves my finger and is the most important material thing in my life, the memories are tangible.
Also, recently I was so blessed to be given a 1980’s Omega Constellation by the family of a wonderful gentleman I cared for for a number of years ( I work as a live in nurse). He. Passed just after Christmas at the grand old age of 99, I have always worked the Christmas period as the other nurse has family so was fortunate to be with him when he passed. He wore that watch every day since getting it as a retirement gift in the 80’s.
The family know I love watches. It is well worn and shows that wear and age and I will wear it feeling very blessed to have known the old chap and each scratch on it means so much to me as he created them. I am always humbled by witnessing the love you all share as a family, it’s beautiful!

It is such a beautiful understated watch that I think most people would have no idea how incredibly special it is. I love watches that fly under the radar but if you know, you know! Regarding the watch that the son brought in during our last episode to fix for his mother, the bracelet is beyond repair according to our watchmaker. That's unfortunate, so it's going to have to be replaced. We still want to record a separate video of the repairs and overhaul, but we're awaiting the client's instructions. Here is the situation. Most folks assume that grey market dealers buy the watches at retail and sell them at premium which is NOT the case.
You need to explain this to your viewers. Dealers get their new hot watches 2 ways. Either from a customer who paid retail and is demanding a premium. In this case the customer gets to keep the extra profit. The other way is package purchases with ADs to get hot pieces. Like buying gold Chopard or Omega Deville and other undesirables inventory from ADs for the privilege to get a few hot pieces. The only winners are either the Ads for getting more business on jewelry or other dead inventory and sometimes the occasional lucky customer who scores a hot piece. Either way it’s not the gray dealer benefiting from this.
Rolex is not benefiting either. You have to remember that ADs get the prices at 38-40% off retail so on a Sub for example Rolex makes 5-6k. That’s it!!!! They don’t even benefit financially for this madness. The main beneficiaries are the ADs and as such they hold the power and unfortunately treat most customers like crap because they don’t need to even try hard. Customers get mad and post stupid comments against used dealers as if it is their fault.
We've explained this a bunch of times to people, but many refuse to believe it. You can only lead a horse to water. 🤷
The CRM family is the best here. Being from Martinique, my father having had a boat packing up all the gang, etc... I can definitely relate to my brothers from Cuba. We had the same atmosphere at home with family, friends, food, music, rhum, smiles and fun each day. You are excellent people as well as many other watches & jewellery resellers or grey market dealers if you prefer. You are definitely not to blame trying to make a living through economic ups & downs like everyone else. People who believe the grey market dealers are to blame are wrong, things do change with ups and downs.
Grey market dealers did not make the watch market but the available liquidities surplus decided by central banks, etc... very much did. Now, the massive money printing or "quantitative easing" led to humongous liquidities with virtually no tangible collateral. This excess cash liquidity meant that it has to be used / spent towards stuff, some of it goes into watches which, because of a sudden increased demand, artificially led to some popular models becoming relatively rare, again because of demand... An artificially fuelled rarity. Similarly, it propelled many other asset classes valuations to stratospheric highs. Dan pretty well knows that.
So much that during that period some watches became commoditised / speculative supports, investment grade as well as a way to "park" i.e. protect one's money... All of this makes for a rather perilous proposal as it cannot be sustainable ad infinitum. Prior to this frenzy, watches, including the most popular models, were mostly consumer items with depreciation curves prior to hit the vintage category appreciation curve after some years exactly like classic and vintage cars... An excessive amount of money has been printed, that's it's a massive fraud by the people who decided upon it _ these people must be thrown to jail. That's pretty much the equivalent of putting free self-service cocaine stands across everywhere; people get high, soon they have become addicts. That's fine for a time, until the supply dries out... I feel that pretty soon we may all _ not grey market watches dealers but all i.e. everybody including the rancid commenters blaming you guys _ be adversely affected by a massive monetary correction / hyper-inflation or worse, devaluation.
It's not grey market dealers to blame but governments and central bankers !
These racid commenters should think about their own karma... as wishing bad to others who do not harm means that one day they necessarily will get the harm...

That opening call reminded me of the story that I saw somewhere -- was it Carlos or Charlie who recounted it on a past episode? -- of a lady dealer who got convinced to bring a lot of high end watches to Italy for a supposedly-wealthy collector that she had had lots of contact with. They set her up in a nice hotel, met her in a beautiful palazzo, showed off their collection, told her to leave the watches with him so he could decide which to buy... and the next day, boom, guy is gone, watches are gone, police shrug their shoulders.
Damn, crazy story!
The way this business/ family company runs is like a AP/Rolex/Patek Philippe, very smooth. An a tune up might need to be done to a person who messes up. Love your channel, besides watch repair videos. Historically, they have, albeit at a much slower rate. What happened during the last 3 years took even Rolex by surprise. They had never seen anything like it before, but then again, no one else had either. 🤷

For me watches aren’t investments. I buy them because I like to wear them. When people treat them as investments it take away from the passion. It becomes about money instead of the love of the watches. The flippers just ruin it for me

Actually, there is 2 group of watch dealers. Those that do all models and accept the crazy prices and those that never wanna put their business in that kind of inventory. It's a choice. But things have to come back to senses. I will buy a 250 thousand tourbillon but not a PP5711 although at one time they are price the SAME! So for a responsible grey market dealer, u need to warn the customer the situation and not just accept the fact that a 5711 costs 250 thousands.

Harley did the same thing before 2000. They limited production and you had to get on a waiting list. If you wanted a Harley even though it was used you would pay double but you would have that bike at that point in time. The luxury watch market is going through the same thing, until they ramp up more production you’ll have MSRP and then aftermarket even though they’re preowned. It’s simple supply and demand economics. I think the most important thing here is to understand that we all have a choice. Do I order a watch and wait and pay MSRP or do I get something that is preowned and pay a higher price. It’s a matter of choice. So I wish everyone the best on their choice and the authorized dealers and the gray market dealers.

Fun fact in 2002 I bought a 2003 Mustang GT Premium for 32K while shopping for a steel Rolex Daytona I could buy it at $5800-$6200, 20% of the car price. Today that same 2022 Mustang would be $42K, $8400. Today is that basic steel Daytona worth anywhere near $27-28K. No not in the slightest. This business bumped Luxury retail prices by a much higher margin than basically every other consumer product.
Supply and demand works differently for luxury goods vs cars.
You treat everyone as if they've been your friend for years. If everyone treated each other like this the world would be a much better place. Not saying the world is a bad place but to many people out to hustle people instead of sitting down talking to them and maybe learning who they are.

Fair price is the agreed prices between buyers and sellers. Market will correct itself due to supply and demand so if you felt that the cost is too much then wait if everyone stop buying then the price will come down. If you waited and others are still buying then the price will leveled or creeped up.

I'll dumb this down for people watching so you don't have to CRM, I am actually quite good at doing this because I work with engineer's.
1. A watch is a commodity it will rise and drop in value. What's it made of who made it ?
2. Gold, Sliver , Platinum , Diamonds are all commodities they will rise and drop in value.
3. Oil , food is a commodity they will rise and drop in value.
Your team gave great example's of this however it might have been a little over their heads, so I decided to step in and lend a hand.
It is very important when dealing with low IQ people to dumb yourself down sometimes, however that can cause head aches and ruin ,
your day. So I did all the dumbing down for you. Hopefully they can read examples 1, 2 and 3. and understand.

You are right to an extent. Anthony did tarnish his reputation, but did not tarnish the hard earned reputation of honest resellers like CMR, and Luxury Bazaar. The long-term grey market dealers have hard earned solid reputations. Buy a watch from CMR and you will know you bought an authentic watch at a fair price. Anthony can’t destroy CMR’s reputation, only his own.

The issue with all these negative comments is simple. CRM is very transparent about buying selling & profits & losing too. Lately there is lots of money to be made in luxury watches. You showed that & people are jealous. They must hate Hermes Birkin bags & LV, Gucci, Montblanc limited editions etc etc. This is part of the luxury market, exclusivity. Just think eBay would not have become a multi billion dollar company if not for the free market. If you don’t like the price, don’t buy or go somewhere else.
Houses,classic cars and stock have been “investment” much much longer then watches. Collectors who are over 25 years collection remember that only 1-2 watches went over retail. Now a lot of watches are over retail. So watches as an investment with “market prices” is relative new. And it’s not how they knew the collecting community from before.
