Hey Karak I have a brother that only plays driving sims want to buy him something that isn't grid or forza. He isn't into online could you tell me if this or onrush is a better fit. His fav game is burnout 3 he likes seeing the damage and how well it runs /handling over graphics
Has good wheel support, for all the common wheels. Actually the force feedback is one of the better ones.. even comparable to some simulators like Dirt Rally, if you have a wheel, definitely the way to play this game

My opinion, it shouldn't even be an option. Sooo much more things to break, bend, or outright fail and make your current race that much more interesting..
They used to have stuff like that on ESPN all the time. Saturday and sunday mornings they'd have demolition derbys, trophy truck stadium races, and even performance semi truck drifting etc. Now, it's all about college football and dumb shit like commentary highlights and recaps for baseball games.
Waiting on November 20 for console release. My sim rig is ready, cuz so tired of all the super serious racers. Grew up with Destruction Derby 2 and DD:RAW so this is gonna be my jam! All grown up and with a cool wheel rig. Awesome!!!
The multiplayer might not be super super active but it's nowhere near dead imo. There's people who have played the MP for years, and won't stop anytime soon. Also it has Steam Workshop support and ton of mod tracks and cars
Shredd I was gonna say the same thing. Maybe adding another particle system for rain is going to take up resources needed to simulate the destruction and fuck up the framerate.
I don't know man, I bought it in EA because I was a fan of Flatout 1&2 and I can say it's not for me. Much slower pace and the track design is outright boring. They went with too much of a realistic approach IMO. Oh, and no splitscreen either. :|
I bought this when it first went into early access. It has been quite the journey over the years. Glad to see Karak give it his deal of approval! It really is a total blast to play.

Just bought the game on PS4 & on my 1st fugue 8 elimination style race I watched an NPC just get totally fucked by a mosh pit of cars then once it got back on tack it said "fuck it" & went in the opposite direction to fuck with everyone else before it was eliminated. This was the 1st time (in a while) where I felt the same way as an NPC, at least during a racing game.

I purchased this game for £11.99 in 2014 and played it on and off. for a couple of hours. And didn't launch it again until this year. At the time I had problems with the game and it crashed every time I tried to join a server so I didn't play it. Then they renamed the game and changed a whole bunch of stuff and got me back into the game again. But still had a problem with connecting to online servers. Then I played it this year and my god, have they improved it a lot. Everything works now which is fucking fantastic. The current community it has is really nice and fun to play with & I've enjoyed it a lot. Shame I have no friends to play with.

The first Flatout is a better game in my humble oppinion but at the moment Wreckfest is the best game of that category. (I mostly disslike the soundtrack of Wreckfest.)
Arthur Fisher that’s fine, do you have a pro? Once I got a pro and a 4k tv I rarely play my pc, i need to replace my cooler though. Consoles need new thermal paste after awhile, which is a bitch compared to pc. The main difference is more FPS , better shadows and more Particle effects depending on the game. Sometimes the pc port is broken for months. It’s not as big of an improvement as it was late last gen. Keyboard and mouse does feel much better for first person shooters for sure.
Tested it half a decade ago when it was an early Alpha of The Next Car Game. Own the final version, latest build and it is fun, especially with friends. Supports both LAN and Internet play. Also includes a dedicated server option. Multiplayer allows you to add bots to fill the track and they automatically make room when a human wants to join. Vehicles include many cars, trucks, wagons, lawnmower tractors, buses, harvesters, tractors, and more will be coming with newer patches.
Kickstarter supporter here (bought it back in 2013, its been a long wait). 120hrs on early access multiplayer and I have to say this is my dream racing game! The racing gets better when you unlock faster cars, it can feel a little too slow for the first few hours until you unlock faster cars and upgrades. Karak said multiplayer dying out would be an issue but I can assure you that won't be the case. We had around 40-60 people playing the early access on community maintained dedicated servers every evening from February this year right till the launch. This is a one of a kind niche game which will always have its own player base even if the mainstream is not interested anymore. Just don't give up because the cars feel too slow at first without upgrades, it will get faster and the crashes will get more brutal. Multiplayer is the best part of this game, single player campaign kind of just introduces you to the game.
Coming to PS4 soon, brings back memories of Destructions derby on PS1, this is a a buy for me! I have been looking for a alternative racing game to Blur which is the last racing game I've played.
I really enjoy that Driveclub is still held in such high regard when it comes to graphical prowess in the racing genre (and perhaps in general). Upsets me that Evolution got disbanded and the chances of it getting a Pro patch/support for 4K/HDR or 60@1080 are slim to none.
It would have been more of an instant buy for me if it was just a little bit more dynamic. Like why not implement snow and mud into the racing, and have some actual locales for the track. Ive been following the game off and on for years and im really disappointed by the lack of tracks and race modes.
C'mon bugbear? where is Ray Carter? Where is Jack Benton who was an exact copy of Jude Law, where is Sofia Martinez who would some time win at the last second or Sally who would flip with one hit? Putting in those characters was such a blast and I had hoped for a future where those characters would actually talk and taunt and have cool animations. You could actually play with those characters having their unique quirks. That would be a good game. As it stands now, it's a racing game with good physics and damage system.

On Grid auto sport you can race figure of 8 bangers and if you put on full damage you can wreck the car loose all 4 tyres and still Cary on driving.Not many people new the game had that.On PS3.
Multiplayer is busier now. I often see a lot of servers with close to, or at, the maximum 24 players. When you're online in a busy server, this game is freaking hilarious. I've lost count of the number of times I've been laughing crazily as some huge pile up takes place, with cars flipping everywhere. At a time when most racing games are geared more at realism than being fun to play (imo), Wreckfest is a welcome breath of fresh air. It's a hugely fun and hilarious game, and I can't stop playing it at the moment - every race you do is different.
Loved Destruction Derby on PS1, been following this game now for so long and november 20 can't come fast enough so I can play it on PS4. This peasant is going for full mayhem on the racetrack! Thanks ACG for another excellent review !

I had abysmal FPS on 1080Ti, i switched PCI slots previously, and the card run only as 1.1. I didn't noticed it, because no other game had problems with it. Switching the PCI to 3.0 made it smooth.
Hey thanks for nor skimping out on Racing games. I have checked several of your reviews to see if I should buy certain racing games and appreciate you not leaving them in the dust. I know racing games are pretty niche and not everyone likes them, so its easy to ditch them. Thanks again!
I really really wish they had game modes like the ones in Test Drive Eve of Destruction. Sort of in between a race and a demolition derby. It just required already accessible open fields or tracks and a game mode and it breaks from the repetitiveness of the derbies and races.
There should be a turbo mode like the nitro system from Flatout but it’s only enabled for that specific mode or have minigames similar to Test drive eve of destruction’s game modes.
The online community may be small at this point, but the modding community is incredible. The game may ship with just a few tracks, but there are so many available as mods, it's pretty impressive.
FINALLY we have a new game like Demolition Derby and Test Drive Eve of Destruction. A big thanks to Bugbear for finishing this masterpiece for a niche racing genre.
Don't forget the modding community! There is a full mod scene to "simulate" real banger racing with real banger cars and tracks with multiplayer option, that alone is impressive. Then there are countless track mods, ported over from other nostalgic "demolition" racing games but also original once made to punish cars and creating chaos. I honestly don't know how so many reviewers of multiple games just completely ignore modding communities. I believe modding is something that can make or break a game, depending on the content. Following that, I do believe that, if there wasn't any support for modding, this game would have a much harder time existing.
I can't tell if, when someone misses something in the video, in this case in giant blurb about steamworkshop in the pros and cons. if it means they even watch the things or just want to comment to somehow pretend like there is an issue.
The ONLY things this game is missing is paint scratches, terrain deformation, and access to more or varied engines. I wanna put a V8 in my Fairlady Z, dammit! Sound-wise, they sound better than Forza though, and that's saying a lot. Definitely worth the buy
I saw Unleash the Archers for the first time last year. Just got into their music with Apex album coming out around then. Loved it. First metal show was so much fun.

Had this since early, early access and it's really gotten a lot better in the last six months. Really fun racing game. MP was fairly full when it first went on steam and is super fun smashing other people's cars while smashing some bourbons at home. Agree with Karak that it's a buy.

Great video as always, one of the best reviewers around, thanks. Only one problem, for me, did you never consider splitting your reviews in chapters? I f.ex. don't care for music, sound and voice and I'm always skipping it, having chapters would make this a lot easier.
As RT said, if they added rain... just IMAGINE wreckfest 80% dirt actually being mud... player meltdowns of "WHY CAN'T I GO!?!?!?"... Watching 12 AI cars just plow over the berm on the first turn of dirt on the end of a long asphalt straight, lawn-darting into the air... it could be so cool, if the game engine could handle it, which I'd think it could.

Kind of pushing it, the soft body physics stuff with 24 cars is already pretty damn complex.

Wreckfrest from the original developers of flatout and flatout 2. This is our real flatout 3 successor. The PC version came out a year ago.

People going backwards to troll/grief is pretty dynamic. Fun at times dodging or wrecking them.

I had abysmal FPS on 1080Ti, i switched PCI slots previously, and the card run only as 1.1. I didn't noticed it, because no other game had problems with it. Switching the PCI to 3.0 made it smooth.
Hey thanks for nor skimping out on Racing games. I have checked several of your reviews to see if I should buy certain racing games and appreciate you not leaving them in the dust. I know racing games are pretty niche and not everyone likes them, so its easy to ditch them. Thanks again!

I really really wish they had game modes like the ones in Test Drive Eve of Destruction. Sort of in between a race and a demolition derby. It just required already accessible open fields or tracks and a game mode and it breaks from the repetitiveness of the derbies and races.
There should be a turbo mode like the nitro system from Flatout but it’s only enabled for that specific mode or have minigames similar to Test drive eve of destruction’s game modes.
It's pretty cool. Had it since alpha , multiplayer is fun and pretty hectic when you have buses and cars trying to fit in the same corners.

The online community may be small at this point, but the modding community is incredible. The game may ship with just a few tracks, but there are so many available as mods, it's pretty impressive.
FINALLY we have a new game like Demolition Derby and Test Drive Eve of Destruction. A big thanks to Bugbear for finishing this masterpiece for a niche racing genre.

Don't forget the modding community! There is a full mod scene to "simulate" real banger racing with real banger cars and tracks with multiplayer option, that alone is impressive. Then there are countless track mods, ported over from other nostalgic "demolition" racing games but also original once made to punish cars and creating chaos. I honestly don't know how so many reviewers of multiple games just completely ignore modding communities. I believe modding is something that can make or break a game, depending on the content. Following that, I do believe that, if there wasn't any support for modding, this game would have a much harder time existing.
I can't tell if, when someone misses something in the video, in this case in giant blurb about steamworkshop in the pros and cons. if it means they even watch the things or just want to comment to somehow pretend like there is an issue.
The ONLY things this game is missing is paint scratches, terrain deformation, and access to more or varied engines. I wanna put a V8 in my Fairlady Z, dammit! Sound-wise, they sound better than Forza though, and that's saying a lot.

Had this since early, early access and it's really gotten a lot better in the last six months. Really fun racing game. MP was fairly full when it first went on steam and is super fun smashing other people's cars while smashing some bourbons at home. Agree with Karak that it's a buy.

Where are the farm,city levels from Flatout ? Theses tracks seem so static,nothing happens,tire wall get smashed and thats about it from what i see.

Only one problem, for me, did you never consider splitting your reviews in chapters? I f.ex. don't care for music, sound and voice and I'm always skipping it, having chapters would make this a lot easier.

As RT said, if they added rain... just IMAGINE wreckfest 80% dirt actually being mud... player meltdowns of "WHY CAN'T I GO!?!?!?"... Watching 12 AI cars just plow over the berm on the first turn of dirt on the end of a long asphalt straight, lawn-darting into the air... it could be so cool, if the game engine could handle it, which I'd think it could.
