Kelly's designs are not for the meek at heart. Her designs are always modern, bold, and powerful. I think the house is FABULOUS since the owner is an artist. it's like Mary Poppins having an acid trip!
Not true, the artist owns the house and can continue changing it over time. Great design evolves. If your living in a home that hasn't been updated in decades, time for a makeover
Reading the Comments, I guess me and the owners are the only ones who love this home. Not usually a pastel girl but this place felt elegant to me. I love it!
It's so refreshing to see a home that truly reflects the owners that's not covered in beiges and greys, shiplap and white subway tile. And real art!!! Amen!
Wow, Sebastian, you’re doing so well for yourself. Man, I opened for him years ago, probably mid-2000’s, way before he blew up. He has been killing so hard. Congrats. Well deserved.
Whether you like the way the house is decorated or not, I can appreciate it’s uniqueness. Kelly has a style that’s very much her own. Very artistic. That originality and freedom of self expression is something to be admired.
It's funny to see so many people use "I don't like it" as an argument but this house doesn't belong to any of the viewers here. I agree with you, the independent thinking plus the good skills are what make this design shine.
I absolutely looove this. So much color!!! Cheerful and bright. And what about that sofa, the pinstripes on the bed or even that dinning room table!!??? Just simply beautiful. BRILLIANT work!
It felt like ice cubes had melted in a drink (so many pastels) and everything had the same level of importance (all the unique designs). There was nowhere for the eye to rest, as someone else said. A few of the best looks sprinkled throughout the house would have been brilliant - without trying so hard to make statements everywhere.
This house looks more like an art museum instead of a cozy welcoming home. There’s just too much going on, too many wow factors everywhere, and no balance. The dotted sofas don’t help!
2:38 Being a great designer is really being a great listener. It is such a great philosophy. A few days ago, I met the principals of two interior design firms. I was shocked as none of them had the patience to listen to my ideas. They were itching to bombard their ideas.
so many people take issue with the colors or patterns to the point that they are missing the creativity in which they're all tied together and styled. Sure I'm not a fan of them either, but when you see the ingenuity in the design you have to appreciate her eye. Each of her projects is so curated for different people to their taste, and she does an incredible job. Her vision transcends her personal flavor or interests.
@sam sams Well, to me she is... I really like her style (but that`s personal). However, if I want to be objective I can say that she is great because she built an empire on her own (she has a commercial side), she designs a bunch of different, personal, and innovative things (creative), she surrounds herself with a team of extremely talented people (smart). She makes her clients happy (she is good at what she does). Most designers don't achieve all of those items together. She does something unique in the design community. It may not be your cup of tea, but she is good at what she does =) have a good day
I don’t know but this home reminds me of the decor in the house in Beetlejuice. I like the artistic appeal of it but I wouldn’t feel comfortable living there.
Rich people: I want color, uniqueness, pattern, the wow factor. No budget limit. Designer: Sure. Average people: I want everything to look like Pinterest, Instagram, HGTV with $200 budget. Designer:... Average people: Designers are awful, I will DIY and hot glue everything.
I think Kelly Wearstler is a wonderful designer. I always like everything I see that she does. She makes things beautiful, comfortable and a place you want to just take a moment and sit. When you sit you just want to look at all the little details.
Loren Wilkerson, while the video was unfolding I was wondering why all the beautiful art was transported back to the 80's and smothered by so much "look at me I'm edgy" wall wrappings and furniture.
I’m not sure the purpose was timelessness, if course it will become outdated, it’s a private residence not a public space. Even the most wonderful design will become oppressive and boring after being daily exposed to it. We redesign most of the time mainly forth at reason, well some of us at least..
It is so over designed with zero consideration for anything natural. It already looks dated. I have seen a lot of Kelly's stuff and I try to like her but you can always tell it's her and it just feels so... generic. I want to like her because I am so sick of the all white with marble and wood accents but this house didn't do it for me.
I adore this sophisticated colourful playful and artsy kind of style! 😍Those whimsical patterns...when can I move in? Have seen furnishings like this on pinterest and fancy, but so rare for me to see an interior designer embracing this style🙏🏼
I love color and I've loved Kelly Weastler's work but this house is gross as gross can be. So much money poured out into this ghoulish house that all this money could have been spent on helping animals that are neglected, abused and tested on. I so agree with Weisha Yu below my comment here, as she sums it up perfectly.
I’m just going to say it: “too unique.” So much so that it reads as a disconcerting carnival of oddities. Some cool pieces individually, yes. But altogether...holy moly!
I know! I would be so uncomfortable as a guest in this space. Take or leave the design, that's taste. But this does NOT look "comfy". I would constantly feel like I was about to brake or destroy something in this place.
Ana - Kelly has the Epicanthic fold. This fold is found throughout the world. Found in Asia, Native Americans, South African San people, etc. 1. Though its appearance in peoples of Southeast Asia can be linked to possible descent from cold-adapted ancestors, its occurrence in various African peoples precludes a cold-adaptive explanation for it appearing in the latter groups. 2. The epicanthic fold found in some African people has been tentatively linked to protection for the eye from the high levels of ultraviolet light found in desert and semi-desert areas. They have no Asian DNA. th-cam.com/video/WxTnVWgOGLc/w-d-xo.html
I think it’s easy to say the place doesn’t feel homey when it’s clean for the cameras. But maybe off camera there may be blankets, throws, toys everywhere which would make the place appear more comfortable. It may feel like home to them, we just see the polished version of it.
I see what you're saying, but I don't think a home has to be in disarray to feel comfortable if it designed well. It will look comfortable even cleaned up for the cameras. Your comment kind of proves the point that this design does not feel homey especially if adding throws and toys everywhere is what it needs to look less uptight. That's strange.
The designer said it clearly that she adapts her projects to the taste of the client. She said the lady happens to like unique pieces, the result is this home. Her touch can also be seen but it’s probably apparent that the spirit of the client pervades everything.
I respectfully disagree. I think all of Kelly Wearstler's projects are a slight variation on this theme. I think this is all her, all day. I get no clear point of view of anyone but her. I think she finds clients that allow her to do her thing. But make no mistake, it is HER thing. IMHO.
Postmodern house! Beetlejuice house, but with kids. Pleasure to watch as it's not a very popular style. It doesn't give much room for changes though, I feel - it's perfect as it is.
I love Kelly's eye and her play on texture and mixing found objects. I feel mixing Lana's work into the overall feel made it too whimsical for my taste. The clients are happy and that's all that matters.
that is an excellent question. I feel like she totally foists her style on her clients in all her projects. She says each project is different. I beg to differ. I think she has a VERY specific point of view and it's the same in every project. Nothing feels organic like it evolved over time. It all feels contrived to me. I want to like her because she's darling, but alas, I cannot.
You can not tell me, that money can't buy you happiness it sure as hell can by you love, happiness and, freedom to do what ever you want,..! I will never have that in this life time,..! Unfortunately,..!
That is an intense home and I love it. It's a bit of a wacky fantasyland but actually livable. If you have money and the space, why not go wild? You can always change it up in a few years.
When you want to be unique, most people will disagree. I won't design my house this way because I want to sell it easily in the future. However, the interior is well done. The house feels spacious without being white on beige on white on beige on white. Kelly does have the eyes.
Absolutely nothing about this home appeals 2 me. There's no warmth, no soul, and the comfort and practicality of the space appears 2 be minimal at best. That said it is their home so I respect the fact that it works 4 them.
Kelly's designs are not for the meek at heart. Her designs are always modern, bold, and powerful. I think the house is FABULOUS since the owner is an artist. it's like Mary Poppins having an acid trip!
The place is so full of another person’s imagination there’s no space left to imagine.
OMG, you nailed it! That is so well and accurately put.

My GOD, they're STRAIGHT! Beautiful design, & Lana's art is great.
I feel intimidated by everything in this house
The Italian tiled cabinet and the bar (when opened) ...I want!
It's a very specific point of view - a little goes a very long way. I'm so not ready for 1980s postmodernism to make its comeback.
Best comment yet.

Who color graded this video? All the skin tones are green and orange and it isn't helping the interior either.

So obviously "designed" - not feeling any personality of the owners but plenty of the designer's.
oh you know the owners?
MT MF - But the owners must like the finished product since they are in the video. It is too much for me but I do like some parts of it.
