The greatest drummer in the world, and yet when he appeared on these shows he never used his own set. Whatever kit they had lying around was just fine - his talent always transcended the instrument.
Anybody who disagrees is an idiot Absolutely the best Two of my close friend were with him for years: Steve Marcus and Andy Fusco Sadly, they both have passed away But I was fortunate enough to work with both of them over several years
All the producers of these shows had to do, was look at tapes of what Buddy used...not just grab what they could. I don’t know why Buddy just didn’t remove the second rack tom, he never used normally.
kalamia1000 Buddy just showed up and played!!! He didn’t give a fuck about equipment!!!! He could have played on buckets & a garbage lid and still sounded great!!!!! The player makes the instrument, not the other way around!!!!!!!
This is I think only video from this late of Buddy playing 20 or 22 kick drum, all I seen him use all the time was 24. That is not his kit, but at least all the borowed ones were 24 or 26...
@@brianchisnell1548 Yes Buddy did play on a 26 bass drum. Most of his kits were given to him by drum manufacturers. So did he really have is own set if drums?
I guess I'm in the minority here. I know it's not his normal set or set up, but I thought the drums sounded particularly good. Better than most of the videos I've seen. So often he has only a mic or two above, but this kit has every drum mic'd and I think it makes a HUGE difference. Of course the performance was magnificent. I love this chart and this arrangement.
At least they should have checked out how Buddy liked his kit set up. Not like this..no second rack tom , nor cymbal set up...very poor arranging for the master, by a slack organiser.
Buddy was excellent on drums.. no matter what the set-up and/or how they were arranged. He looks kinda odd on this 2-up 1-down rig with a ride up high. But, that didn't stifle him in the least. He was a bad-ass.
@@richardconnolly1232 yeah it was no secret that he was an ass. But to be fair, he demanded perfection. He knew that his talent was one of a kind and he wanted nothing but ths best with him. He let you know when you were fucking up. That made him what he was. His skill is truly phenominal. His solos, other than specific parts, were never ever the same. Always driving and pushing himself. That's what makes him so great. Good video. Cheers 🍻
MoRe bEEr I couldn’t agree more! Two of my friends were Steve Marcus and Andy Fusco- both longtime Sax players with buddy After Buddy died, Steve Marcus came to work in my casino lounge band.Steve who has since passed away was thrilling to work with and he was very kind and humble. More than once Steve would say “ I miss Buddy” Buddy was a genius, didn’t have to accept anything less from those fortunate enough to work for him. You and I are on the same page!
For such a perfectionist, Buddy didn't care what kits , or how they were set up for , him on these shows..
Still blew everyone away.
Buddy is so awesome!God I miss The Carson Show.Unbuttoning the blazer while playing always blows me away! What a great band!
Jay87539 I know! I saw that, too. Buddy was The Master.

I agree Buddy could play a couch great but...those drums were tuned horrible!

The master of all masters at work. There is Buddy, and then there is everyone else. This man did not play the drumzz, this man WAS THE DRUMZZ!!!!!!!
There are a couple of times when Buddy did play on one of his own sets. Rare, however.
Carson kept a set of buddies drums in his office
Buddy also gave away many sets. This pissed off Bill Ludwig .

Marshallbluesrock he routinely used whatever kits were given to him for these shows
Standard Bass drum was a 26 inch. Smaller gigs sometimes a 24

At 1:05 he undoes his jacket without skipping a beat. What else can't he do.
2 of my friends travelled with him for years... freak talent and not a nice guy but nobody comes close!

Rich plays music like someone eating a big dinner, but rushing to finish it, and never really tasting the food.
Oh please. He was nothing but a show off. Fast and loud rudiments! Gene Krupa or Louie Nelson , any day!!! They actually played with heart and soul.
Ok. Lol
Louie Belson
You know your shit!! Lol
