    It's a shame that cross-breeding makes such horrible health issues. Freckles is beautiful, and I love her spotted nose. I wish she'd had a chance to live wild, even if her "species" would almost never happen there.

      Razzlewolfflight eh that wouldn't be a good idea... they'd survive but Ligers have no natural predators so they would completely mess up the eco system if introduced to the wild which is why if one is made they HAVE to be kept in a zoo or some kind of enclosure

    • @TackKeyNack
      @TackKeyNack 7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Ligers can exist in the wild, although they are very rare. It's not unnatural at all. If it was, she wouldn't have been born at al.

    Atleast she died peacefully. Most big cats who aren't lucky enough to be rescued die of poachers or other animals.

    • @fart63
      @fart63 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@imgonnawin555 that is nature. That is the circle of life. When we kidnap these animals from their homes and then breed them into terrible conditions it is not nature. We are confining them to a life they are not made for

    • @lelandlewis7207
      @lelandlewis7207 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Z Rondo, I saw the one that claims the experts are wrong and ligers have no issues, but, they also breed ligers and use them to attract people to their "safari". Who knows how may haven't lived as long or as well as the ones they show. Granted, it appears they take care of their animals which may be why they are healthy, if they are, but they are still used as trained animals, not living as the cats do at Big Cat Rescue.

    • @IcoNyx
      @IcoNyx 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Vatolicious
      the thing about breeding these cats to create hybrids is the breeds have been so selective for so long that interbreeding is out right bad for the species. in addition to the genetic and health problems created, the new hybrids lack certain characteristics necessary to survive in the wild, so these animals will have to live in captivity for their entire lives... ignoring the medical implications, these animals are not built to live in cages, even 3 acre cages. The psychological implications are just terrible for these animals. the only way to relieve the psychological damage is through domestication...
      At this point there are not many animals that we have genetically modified to suit co-habitation (IE: domestication). So far we (humans) have only fully domesticated ONE breed of animal (grey wolves were domesticated over the course of 10000 years to create modern dogs) the second and third domestication efforts are still underway (cats are only partially domesticated, they still lack some of the "human dependancy" qualities dogs presently posess, though they are close. the third domestication project is being "fast tracked" which is the russian silver fox domestication experiment. but the domesticated silver foxes are only in the initial phases of the process and will likely take another few centuries to merely catch up with house cats). all other animals, even those we call "domesticated" like rodents and livestock, are NOT domesticated properly and thus will suffer psychological damage in captivity.
      Now if someone were to dedicate billions of dollars to a proper domestication effort much like the Russians are doing with silver foxes, then MAYBE in a few hundred years a domestic breed of tiger or lion would be generated that could live in captivity without the psychological trauma of being caged. but even then, a domesticated hybrid liger would STILL suffer from the physical and genetic damage of cross breeding. so in short, this is all really bad joojoo for the liger.

      +Janellson Since ligers are a mix between a male lion and a female tiger, they do grow longer fur around their face.

      A combination of species and age. Ligers have a low appearing "stomach-line" and also cats have not the same kind of connective tissue like humans as their skin seems always more flabby even at younger ages.

    I knew of that place in Mississippi. It was about 15-20 minutes from my hometown in the neighboring county. At one point in time it was doing well and just went downhill. When I was in high school I worked at the vet clinic in that town from 2003-05. one of the vets would go out there from time to time to treat the cats.

      Ligers do not happen in the wild.

    • @mentallyderangeddoggirl
      @mentallyderangeddoggirl 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LionManatic2048 Ligers can't go extinct. They're not a species. As long as both tigers and lions are around, a liger can not go extinct.

    • @KattoTang
      @KattoTang 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ligers actually do happen, albeit rarely, in the wild. They just generally die very young, and if they do happen to make it to adulthood it doesn't matter much as they're infertile.
      Of course, this is only true in parts of Asia where they still have Asiatic lions. Ligers bred from tigers and African lions don't happen.

  • @ThisMuslimah

    I in no way condone the interbreeding of the lion and tiger, but I do think the ligers look beautiful. Please understand that I'm not saying in anyway that they should exist.

    • @TheBOSS6715
      @TheBOSS6715 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Think about it though, through selective breeding and many years, the birth defects and problems with these animals would be sorted out. Humans would have created an entirely new species, giving back to the world not taking away.

    • @Tasoq
      @Tasoq 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      But what good would it do? They're not a naturally occurring animal and could just make things worse in the wild if they were to be released and I don't think it's right to breed them just for show.

    • @TheBOSS6715
      @TheBOSS6715 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Tasoq why does it matter if they are naturally occurring. all things you use in your daily lives didn't naturally occur but yet you have no problem with them. your pet animals weren't naturally occurring they were selectively bred to domesticate them and yet you have no problem keeping them around.this is just another form of evolution just sped up via humans.

    • @Tasoq
      @Tasoq 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Henry Saegenschnitter Okay, fair point. But the lions and tigers are of different species and in my personal opinion, I don't think it's right.

    • @TheBOSS6715
      @TheBOSS6715 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tasoq i can respect that, but im a strong believer in genetic manipulation and selective breeding so i see nothing wrong with this, what i cant condone is the killing and using of big cats and exotic animals for personal gain, like zoos and circuses.
