It's a shame that cross-breeding makes such horrible health issues. Freckles is beautiful, and I love her spotted nose. I wish she'd had a chance to live wild, even if her "species" would almost never happen there.
Razzlewolfflight eh that wouldn't be a good idea... they'd survive but Ligers have no natural predators so they would completely mess up the eco system if introduced to the wild which is why if one is made they HAVE to be kept in a zoo or some kind of enclosure
@@imgonnawin555 that is nature. That is the circle of life. When we kidnap these animals from their homes and then breed them into terrible conditions it is not nature. We are confining them to a life they are not made for
@@imgonnawin555 Big cats typically do not eat each other in the wild! They will kill each other on occasion if territories mix but they don't tend to eat the bodies.
Henry T Price :(! Soooo sad! Half the animals i want to see are DEAD! Plus it'll take me a couple years for my family to afford to go to florida! AND BY THAT TIME HALF OF THEM WILL ALSO BE DEAD
I met Hercules the Liger up close 4 times in my life before he died. He was gorgeous and massive. I don't support the breeding to produce ligers and tigons but if they are already here, they deserve the utmost respect and the best care
We did for a long time. The last few years, however, we have had them respectfully cremated and they are then put inside our memorial wall, commemorated with beautiful plaques.
Thanks so much for rescuing freckles! I hate those horrible sanctuaries and being all locked up must be horrible. But you gave freckles alot of room and make him/her feel safe. All of the horrible sanctuaries out there chain them up.
Soups Rarez well, most sanctuaries I see let them roam around as much as Big Cat Rescue.. but most of us should know BCR is one of the *best* Edit: okay I was wrong.. I was only watching BCR and didn’t realize it
@gypsy269 Because Freckles isn't as huge as most ligers, this may be the reason she has lived for so long, she definitely hadn't been in good care before we rescued her, for what amount of time we're unsure...? We're so happy that we could rescue her from the filthy conditions in Mississippi and give her grass to roll around in and a great diet, thank you for your support, with out people like you we couldn't keep doing what we do :)
I know the comment is old, but the size of ligers actually overlaps pretty nicely with that of the largest sabertooths like Smilodon populator and Machairodus horribilis. It might be the upper size limit for a felid bodyplan.
Big Cat Rescue ppl like u r angels on earth. It breaks my heart so much when i see animals in pain n especially when they r mistreated but knowing tht there r ppl like u out there gives me a little comfort.
Nice to see that somebody cares, i saved a cat about a year ago (normal cat) he was really malnurished and now, he's the best one could ever wish for, always sleep right next to me at night, watch me sit by the computer and stuff, really really loving.
I went on the big cat rescue site to learn more about ligers. It's insane they weigh in at more or less of a 1000 pounds. Crazy. I feel for those men who had to move Freckles. Hard work.
THANK YOU to each and every one of you who watched, commented and shared this video! When you watch, comment, like, favorite, add to playlists, share on Facebook, Twitter etc it helps spread the message. So thank you again for watching and taking the time to comment.
@PrincessSakuno The video of her roaring is a short roar "get out my face" kind of thing, she also roars to mark her territory like lions do, they have different roars :)
+Z Rondo, I saw the one that claims the experts are wrong and ligers have no issues, but, they also breed ligers and use them to attract people to their "safari". Who knows how may haven't lived as long or as well as the ones they show. Granted, it appears they take care of their animals which may be why they are healthy, if they are, but they are still used as trained animals, not living as the cats do at Big Cat Rescue.
She is so cute. Poor baby. A lot of mean people out there trying to make a million and not caring who the hurt. Thank God for BCR and for people that donate. Still love and goodness survive and y’all prove it.
That is unfortunate. As you said, she was quite old for what she was! I never knew of any living to such an age. I thank you for all you guys do to protect these lovely cats. I can only wish that this wasn't necessary someday....
+Big Cat Rescue Its so fantastic that you actually give her a chance even though her problem might not seem easy to treat. She does seem to have improved her ability to walk in the end of the video and to be happy and not in pain. Which is basically what her life is about - being happy and content.
Vatolicious the thing about breeding these cats to create hybrids is the breeds have been so selective for so long that interbreeding is out right bad for the species. in addition to the genetic and health problems created, the new hybrids lack certain characteristics necessary to survive in the wild, so these animals will have to live in captivity for their entire lives... ignoring the medical implications, these animals are not built to live in cages, even 3 acre cages. The psychological implications are just terrible for these animals. the only way to relieve the psychological damage is through domestication... At this point there are not many animals that we have genetically modified to suit co-habitation (IE: domestication). So far we (humans) have only fully domesticated ONE breed of animal (grey wolves were domesticated over the course of 10000 years to create modern dogs) the second and third domestication efforts are still underway (cats are only partially domesticated, they still lack some of the "human dependancy" qualities dogs presently posess, though they are close. the third domestication project is being "fast tracked" which is the russian silver fox domestication experiment. but the domesticated silver foxes are only in the initial phases of the process and will likely take another few centuries to merely catch up with house cats). all other animals, even those we call "domesticated" like rodents and livestock, are NOT domesticated properly and thus will suffer psychological damage in captivity. Now if someone were to dedicate billions of dollars to a proper domestication effort much like the Russians are doing with silver foxes, then MAYBE in a few hundred years a domestic breed of tiger or lion would be generated that could live in captivity without the psychological trauma of being caged. but even then, a domesticated hybrid liger would STILL suffer from the physical and genetic damage of cross breeding. so in short, this is all really bad joojoo for the liger.
If I lived within 100km of Big Cat Rescue, I know I could not go more than 4 weeks without volunteering for a few hours a day at least. Biologically it's fascinating. And ethically, the best practice on display here is simply inspiring. If you live near it - but aren't helping out - why not? :)
Was Joseph chuffing? I didn't know lions did that. Do they do it for the same reason as tigers? I didn't see him interacting with anyone. Also, rest in peace, Freckles. I hope there are a lot of chicken legs in liger Heaven. (And no ligers in chicken Heaven.)

this cat has better health care than i do
+nathan cotter amen to that, said the same thing.
he's a bit more majestic than you, in all fairness
Well if you don't mind your house to be destroyed and put in cage for the rest of your life, you can keep being envious to that animal.
Why do people assume animals sense of freedom is as complex as humans?
nathan cotter well, she passed away 2 months after this video :/

Ligers can exist in the wild, although they are very rare. It's not unnatural at all. If it was, she wouldn't have been born at al.
Atleast she died peacefully. Most big cats who aren't lucky enough to be rescued die of poachers or other animals.
RIP Freckles. :)
Definitely, and she was loved & cared for at BCR ❤
Not advocating poaching, but is it "peaceful" for the animals that get eaten by wild lions/tigers?

What we do is made possible by all of you out there who love these cats. Together, we can make a difference. www.BigCatRescue.org
Freckles was quite elderly when she got here. She was here for a quite a while before she passed away.
Big Cat Rescue is incredible! The love and care you provide for these animals is so admirable I’m moved to tears all the time. Keep up the great work!
We wish we could put them into the wild. Sadly, it just isn't possible. Your comment shows that you care about the cats, so THANK YOU for that!
im glad you guys are taking care of her, please keep educating the public that hybridization is cruel
We absolutely will!
I love her, she looks so cute when she tries to look vicious with her no teeth growl
Thank you. It takes many many people working together.
she probably lived so old because you all took wonderful care of her!
You guys are doing a fantastic professional job to preserve such a great animal ! Cheers and Congratulations !

You guys are doing amazing work! I hope I can visit someday!
Came here for Ligers, but Jenn is an awesome suprise.
We just let her wake up by herself and yes we monitored her to make sure she was fine :)
thats good
What a beautiful old girl she is. Thank you so much BCR for giving her the quality of life she deserves. :)

Oh well Unfortunately, she has not been with Big Cat Rescue for 3 years now.
So sad to see these animals with terrible teeth...such poor care before you rescued them. They are very lucky to be with you.
I'm surprised your videos already had that high of a production value back in 2011!

Thank you for watching!

BCR is such an amazing facility, you guys know how to treat cats amazingly and give them better homes than they had before. It's truely phenomenal! ♡
why is the stomach flabby?
Because they are well fed
+pyroneutral Just like humans, their skin begins to sag with age.
+pyroneutral
A combination of species and age. Ligers have a low appearing "stomach-line" and also cats have not the same kind of connective tissue like humans as their skin seems always more flabby even at younger ages.
because of too much french fries and burgers
tigers have that stomach cuz sometimes they can eat like 50 kgs of meat in one sitting ..so it's kind of flexible stomach
Thank you for caring for these beautiful creatures.

Is it inhumane to breed lions and tigers since they have hybridization problems?
We believe it is wrong.
Its definitely a cool name but I agree it is wrong to breed ligers. Are they as ferocious as lions and/or tigers?
