- At 90, Leong Yuet Meng is probably the oldest working hawker legend in Singapore. Throughout her 60 years in the business, she has taken five disciples under her wings while safeguarding our hawker culture.
Despite her age, she shows no signs of slowing down. She is up by 4:30 am every morning to make her trip to the wet market to buy fresh ingredients. Her motivation? Simply going to work and serving that simple bowl of wonton noodles to her customers.

Ah Po's son have gotten into contact with us recently and we were told that they have stopped operating at Far East Square. Due to the end of their lease and COVID-19, Ah Po is taking a break from business. When the COVID-19 situation gets better, they will source for a new location and Ah Po will be back in action! Meanwhile, Ah Po is still safe and healthy :)

Although do be warned! The queue during lunch time will be very long!
If the food is fresh and good with courteous service with a smile, then the wait is worth it.

My ah ma was a hawker too in every aspect, right to the very last moment. She was one of the last people in Singapore that hand makes curry puffs and a variety of puffs. she'd make them right outside her house at the lift lobby frying like nobody's business 😂😂. Rest in peace mama

I hope more customers aware of the sincere service and respectful history of the small food hawkers. Try to support them by paying more visits rather than Giants like McDonald's...etc

My grandma is 80 years old she runs a small shop for 50 years now i think... she always wakes up 4 am and get me from school on 4:00 pm i always help her ad should any old person will get...be proud of your grandma

Funny thing is that's exactly how a lot of Chinese workers speaking to English customers sound like. It was funny to hear her say that and remind me of some of my co workers.
One thing for sure...the more you use and exercise your brain, the longer you will live. Grandma Leong has a very healthy body and mind, and obviously she can easily beat those from her age group. She walks well, speaks well...and very energetic. To Grandma Leong, stay healthy and cheerful. God bless

I felt even if it's very subtle, but very important point, that she faces the end of lives in a very subtle way.
"I could even say bye bye now", but still she would wake up everyday and face life as usual, what more is she enjoys it.

Here another historic person. All those older generation hawkers are more down to earth. They are humble & generous in serving meal to their customers. Prices are usually reasonable with bigger portion. That is how they maintain close customers relation. Tq aunty. Ur strength & friendly will always be cherish by the customers. 😁😁😁😁😁

She has a contagious smile, looks benevolent and passionate with her job. And her regular customers must be disappointed and saddened to accept the closure of such legendary eating place. The landlord should have understand her difficulties in running the business at the challenging time of this pandemic. If only there could be rental rebates to offset some of the high rental fees, this business could have sustains for many more decades to come.
