66 y.o. and I have been using creatine for four years. I did notice improved strength, muscle gains, but most remarkably, my ability to exercise longer with more intensity is undeniable. Also, some NIH-published research showed that creatine helps with some cognitive function in older adults. My memory has indeed improved. I'm sold...

I am also 66 years old. I started Vitamin K MK7 and that worked almost right away for endurance in running. Then I added creatine, 5Grams a day (2 teaspoons) and I would say it has within a week reversed time for me back to 55 years old. Basically, I noticed increased endurance back to being able to sprint distances. Over the last ten years I went from sprinting to just jogging with the same effort but now I am back to sprinting again. I believe both have helped.

“You might have seen some media stories suggesting that creatine is neuroprotective or good for this or that disease. The last time I looked at this literature, no demonstration of anything of the sort was in evidence. But the exercise science data - which, I remind you, is not generally of the highest quality - strongly suggests, on balance, that creatine gives us a slight edge under the bar, without significant ill effects, except perhaps to our pocketbooks. If you train heavy, you might consider trying it. It's one of the few supplements I recommend aside from caffeine, which I hesitate to call a supplement and prefer to call the Elixir of Life. But that's another video.”
I love it! No-nonsense, clear-cut, science-based advice; so hard to come by and so little appreciated in our world. It almost brought tears to my eyes (honestly).
Really glad I discovered this channel today. I’ve counted about 125 videos. I will watch them all and try to implement what I can.

I would take creatine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I would take a cup of Welsh's grape juice and heat it up. Then put a teaspoon of creatine in it and slam it down quickly. Why this way ? Creatine is a heavy molecule and can't cross the muscle membrane on it's own. You need insulin to get it across. Grape juice is super sweet and will cause a massive insulin spike on an empty stomach. You will get full absorbition this way. You heat it up first because a hot liquid can absorb a higher amount of a substance giving you a denser solution. People complain about creatine giving them loose bowels. That's because they drink the crystals at the bottom of the cup. Those crystals don't absorb into your body so they go down to your colon and cause osmosis to occur, thus the loose stool. Creatine is the one supplement that really works as advertised if you take it the proper way.

At over 70, the days of PR's and 3repmax are gone. the focus is keeping muscle mass and some power to go with it. so then the creatine can be of immense strength benefit for extending TUT is isometric holds or protracted negatives.

I'm 75 and formerly a regular, heavy lifter. I'm getting back into it after years away and am shocked at my strength and endurance degeneration despite looking on the outside pretty good to most. I repeatedly suffered kidney stones when I was training in the past. Perhaps it was because I was consuming so much more meat to sustain my progress. However, I do notice comments from others about kidney stones in other threads regarding creatine supplementation as well as the increasing of blood pressure for some individuals. I shall be monitoring the blood pressure. This is easily done. I sure hope to get back on this supplement w/o the stones. Those suckers are a bear. BTW, I've not had stones that I know of since stopping the creatine with big eating. Of course, this is my experience to date. I am lifting now with sets of fives but not eating big and not seeing gains.

I'm no stranger to creatine and your explanation was perfect but if you think that vitamins and other supplements are a waste, you need to keep looking into it. I've been a gym rat since before Elvis died. I was a wrestler in high school and surfer. In the Navy, I was a Diver. I'm no stranger to fitness. I retired, 3 years ago, at age 53 due to extreme metabolic fatigue. Once I found out about active forms of vitamins and started my protocol, I began to get better. So much better that I'm stronger and fitter than any other time in my life. I'm now down below 10% body fat by DEXA scan and I've been asked to compete in Men's Physique competitions by one of our gym trainers who has competed. Also, now after 3.5 years of retirement, my old employer, has asked me back to work, performing a highly technical job....power plant control room operator. When I retired, I was a supervisor of this position. I hadn't worked as the "CRO" since 2011. I just completed my first week back and I'm KILLING it!.....thanks to my supplements.

I am 74 and have been training for 60 years and still at it, inspite of injuries. I had Stage 3b CKD. My filtration rate was way down to 31ml/min. 30 would have put me at stage 4 and possibly dialysis. I have turned it around with my Dr.s suggestion of quitting creatine and stopping anti-inflammatories. I went from 31 to 40 and lately 47, stage 3a, heading in the right direction. Naproxin was the main culprit and creatine with ckd is not a good idea. A young healthy person has a filtration rate of 120 by the time you get up past retirement age, normal is 60. These are good points to remember because our kidneys and liver play a vital role in keeping our blood clean plus a few other things. Luckily I am not diabetic and BP is under control. Make sure to get your annual check ups and keep a close eye on the Kidneys. You sir are very clear and concise ... glad I found you 😁!

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to take a minute to extoll the virtues of Ecdysterone. I'm almost 61 and have been lifting seriously now for 4 years. I always lifted, but did the ole 12 reps for 3-4 sets kind of thing when I felt like it. Anyway, I decided to give Ecdysterone a try about 3 months ago and I have seen s significant increase in size and strength....probably more size then strength but I'm a volume guy trying to keep my joints healthy, e.g. 45lb dumbbells for 5 sets of 30-35 reps for chest, and so on. I generally do between 150-220 reps no matter what I'm working (except legs which I don't do at all...caught a genetic gift on those). Anyway I just wanted to let some other "old guys" know about my positive experience with Ecdysterone. I do take Creatine but that's it. Thought about TRT but I'm not good with the lifetime commitment and my total T is about 820 though my Free T is only 7 so it's doubtful that 820 total T is really providing much of a boost for my strength training and muscle growth.
Be well, protect your joints and God bless!

D3, C, zinc, magnesium, calcium, Omega 3's and a one a day vitamin are a must.
YOU DO NEED THESE. 5,000 IU's of D3 and at least 2 grams of C per day.
D3 is especially important for people who work inside all year round, live above the 38th parallel, wear sunscreen, because they will be chronically D3 deficient and susceptible to viruses, infections, and auto immune diseases like arthritis.
D3 works in the body as a pro hormone. Muscular strength, maintenance, growth, depends on D3.

I look and feel like I am 20 years younger. My strength and work capacity under the bar literally doubled.
It also ensures I get all the protein and creatine I need from my food without the need for any supplements.

Also, there is a ton of data to counter the "expensive pee" claim about taking vitamins. "Large" doses of C, D, Zinc, Omega 3...provide significant health benefits. Also consider that as much as 80% of adults are deficient in Vitamin D with approximately 40% having severe deficiencies.

I have NEVER used supplements other than when dieting down. But now that I'm older and am engaged in intermittent fasting, they make sense to me. It is hard to get all your needed nutrients when fasting. I also am buying into the argument that as you age that your body loses the ability to manufacture all its needed vitamins. That you might heed a broad spectrum of vitamins to get yourself covered. But yes. Creatine has worked wonders for me. Meaning, after years of getting no gains, on taking it, I added 10 lbs or so to my max lifts. Maybe 20 to my squats.

Caffeine is both a stimulant and a vaso-restrictor so it's good for some things, bad for others. Maybe taking a vaso-dilator (e.g. beet juice) with it would neutralize the vascular restriction effect.
Creatine: I was taking it for some time on half the recommended dose. I managed to achieve reliable sets of 4 muscle ups, and scored a couple of out of the blue fives. Then I developed symptoms of renal failure so I had to stop taking it. After a couple of weeks I couldn't manage a single muscle up. Even now, over a year later, I only manage the occasional single. The point is creatine is definitely effective for explosive strength efforts but it's a renal hazard for some of us. I'm 72 YOA and 66 kg by the way, and not taking any other sups apart from a little protein pdr.

Visible effects of creatine are hard to pinpoint. You losing your ability to do a muscle up more likely stems from the fact that you stopped doing them for some time. I too worked hard to learn this exercise and then I had to stop doing it for a while due to shoulder injury and even though Im stronger now than then I can no longer do muscleups reliably.

      @nyguy5370 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I am not a physician but I am a fellow diabetic who lifts weights and uses creatine. Ask your primary care physician to test your cystatin C rather than your creatinine as a measure of kidney function. If your cystatin C is normal, you can discuss using creatine with your physician. Taking creatine will raise your urine creatinine and cause concern if that is how your physician is measuring kidney function - cystatin C is a better measure of kidney function and is independent of creatinine. Creatine on its own should not damage otherwise healthy kidneys, even in a diabetic. Again, you should absolutely discuss any planned use of creatine or other supplements with your doctor, as your specific situation may or may not be favorable for its use. In addition to helping with strength and energy, creatine can actually help to control blood glucose (PMID: 20881878; 33572228) and lower A1c. A decent summary of this can be found at diabeticmuscleandfitness.com/creatine-and-diabetes-the-ultimate-guide/ .

What I understand from regularly reading and lifting since about 1978 is that if you are an “ordinary average male weight trainer “ ( not competing/taking drugs, etc) and going over 45 mins to an hour in your workouts ( if they are truly intense in nature) then your testosterone peaks after that time, and recovery/health/muscle gains can be compromised.
When younger ( under 45) I found this to be negligible; approaching 57, I know this to be true for myself and peers.
Get in, get out ( get it done in about an hour), and focus on good basic nutrition and rest/recovery. You should be having a small and nutritious snack after a session, within 40 minutes…Something if your session is a while before/after a major mealtime…I can’t suggest any powders or supplements, but quality food sources are your best bet.
Go for walks and enjoy yourself. Working out (weights and long state cardio, aside from a healthy walk) in much excess of an hour increases cortisol…When your gains stop, injuries pop up, and your not resting/feeling well, you need to scale back to an hour or less, and try more frequent, shorter sessions, and rest more….Just my .35 worth! Good luck and keep up the good work.
