Their expressions at 2:47 makes me think that they were not supposed to/planning on playing the "Drakkar Noir" remix version,, but just the regular "Trying to be cool" song and someone mixed up the tracks and they were all like "keep calm! Be cool! Keep playing!! Keep playing!!" 🤣🤣🤣
Kind of amazing that these guys (at least Thomas, Deck, and Chris) have been a band since they were 10. I love their music, and sometimes I move away from it and obsess about other bands, but I always come back to them, and I'm always glad when I do. They seem to always come around in my life when I need them but maybe don't realize it yet. This is a great set, but I love watching them play in a setting where they don't need to tone it down at all. It makes me so happy to see Thomas H. and Robin totally rockin' out in the back line, and the way Chris dances around when he's really getting into what he's playing.
The singer, the music and the brilliant drummer tie this band together. Beautifully. A jazz approach to pop/rock music. It takes a Frenchman to reinterpret so well... Or at least, a few Frenchmen and maybe a Swede by way of Sri Lanka. Impressive.
Hahahaha! I believe they were going to just play 'Trying to be cool' but instead cut into 'Drakkar Noir' as they usually do live, thus the confusion. Pffttt so cute. By the way, to the people who has problems with the way Thomas sings, this is just how the album was recorded, its not like he was belting it on CD and suddenly fails live, this is his voice. So ermm just find other bands you like if you dont find his voice to your standards for he does not live by yours.
M Ranjitha We are far from home, I am with you now I am longing you, I am longing us two Who bought a miracle sells these fortune tears December’s death or glory how you want it? No, not a miracle in years Deciders for the lonely wishing death wishes death unless
the synths sound look like the ost of big trouble in little china by john carpenter and alan howarth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm french, very cool sound, i'm so proud, waiting for the naw album of daft punk
Haha, you're upvoted even though you're actually wrong :-) Bankrupt! charted at number 3 in France, and number 4 in the U.S. They're likely somewhat known in both places, but not universal.
did anybody else notice that they missed something inbetween when they switch to drakkar noir. solid musician though they ca just play through it and seriously except for the visuals i probably wouldnt have noticed
there music is kind of cheesy but I like it they are good at manipulating the ears with electronica sounds I don't know why people are saying shit about his voice he's not a bad singer it just seems like the stuff from new album his voice is amplified he's definitely using a tricked out mic but I think it matches the tone the songs - I always though his voice was good but also a little soft like on Lisztomania maybe they did it so you could hear him better when they play live
I think you have a point in that this is not Thomas Mars' best live performance and many factors may be at play aside from your stereotypical provocative TH-cam comment that creates a witch-trial-like flurry of negative comments from fans. For instance, Phoenix had just headlined two weekends at Coachella, played a couple of shows after Cochella, and just the sheer fact that MBE is recorded pretty early in the day, may have contributed to Mars' poor singing.
Hey guys, I'm aware these comments tend to be pretty annoying, but I remixed this song and it's available on my channel to check out. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
Supposed 2 B hip? The song is called "Trying to be Cool" Try being disposably clever & describe it as "They R Failing @ 'Trying to Be Cool'" We can't always listen 2 Radiohead ( 80s & 90s music listener, 1983,) or, N my case primarily as a hip hop listener (not rap, hip hop, don't tell on yourself by not knowing the difference,) Pharoahe Monch, Public Enemy, or Strange Fruit Project, sometimes U need 2 shut up & nod 2 the rhythm! Balance, as with all things N life, is good 4 music playlists!
i wouldn't go that far dude, bordering on delusion there brother, catchy songs, great pop songs to me, but his vocals arent the best element - technically speaking anyway. But who fucking cares about technicality anyway, if you love his vocals, who am i to say anything

He can sing! He's one of the few singers that actually can sing live. He did great :)
Thomas Mars may not be one of the most skilled singer these days, but he has such a unique tone

they're extremely famous in France and have a great great success! what makes you think no one knows them in france?
Best band ever!
The singer, the music and the brilliant drummer tie this band together. Beautifully. A jazz approach to pop/rock music. It takes a Frenchman to reinterpret so well... Or at least, a few Frenchmen and maybe a Swede by way of Sri Lanka. Impressive.
Thomas Hedlund is one of the most underrated drummers of the 21st century.

Haha, you're upvoted even though you're actually wrong :-) Bankrupt! charted at number 3 in France, and number 4 in the U.S. They're likely somewhat known in both places, but not universal.
4:15 band name pls
Still, if you see pictures of them, those were taken by french paparazzi, so they are still "present" in the public minds.
I wish I was as cool as them. ;(
Is Trying to/Drakkar Noir gonna be the new single? this song(s) is getting a lot of exposure, esp. on TV. i wish they would play SOS once in a while
Should I go watch Phoenix or The cure at lollapalooza? Such a tough decision.
trying to be cool, Drakkar Noir, chloroform LOVEEE
why do they only show the studio musicians and no actual members of the band
phoenix dude... phoenix
they make enough touring the world
The weird thing is that hardly anyone know who they are in France. They are far more famous here in the US
Dieudonné à la batterie. Propre.

Drakkar Noir
I need to know what that black piano is. Anyone have any idea?
1:49 PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW!!!!
The drummer is a pro it's like that small mistake didn't happen cuz he was so on it very impressive
whats the effect on his vocals
did anybody else notice that they missed something inbetween when they switch to drakkar noir. solid musician though they ca just play through it and seriously except for the visuals i probably wouldnt have noticed
+ThePorkRollsGoods I think they didn't intend to play Drakkar Noir, I mean look at the drummers face x)
the intro reminds me of "Friends"
Does anyone now what´s that square with bottons the singer is touching now and then?
To add effects in the microphone. Like a guitar pedal, but for his voice
Thank you Blanca!
Idk what this comment section is talking about here saying Thomas isn't that good of a singer, dude is actually fantastic. tf lol
LIKE
what was that song in the end?
Drakkar Noir
2:54 lmao at Laurent
Seems like shit goes sideways at 2:45. Very nice recovery. Well played!
faaaaakin greit
Or buy the mp3 so that the artists can actually get paid for their hard work....
This is "trying to be cool" with "drakkar noir" end
there music is kind of cheesy but I like it they are good at manipulating the ears with electronica sounds I don't know why people are saying shit about his voice he's not a bad singer it just seems like the stuff from new album his voice is amplified he's definitely using a tricked out mic but I think it matches the tone the songs - I always though his voice was good but also a little soft like on Lisztomania maybe they did it so you could hear him better when they play live
No trying necessary!
I think he sounds fine singing live? I don't understand what everyone is talking about lol...
if foster the people & tame impala made a song together.
great👍 sound when it’s live.
The singer looks like Spenny from Kenny vs Spenny
il n'a pas totalement tort, il n'y a pas grand monde qui les connait en France...

do they get their fashion sense from window shopping in malls looking at manikins?
He speaks French...in American...
there are thousands of options....just ask yourself

Source: I'm French
singer is the clone of Sonny Bono
lol.its more that just singing in their music but yeah i can see how you think that he cant sing.
i wouldn't go that far dude, bordering on delusion there brother, catchy songs, great pop songs to me, but his vocals arent the best element - technically speaking anyway. But who fucking cares about technicality anyway, if you love his vocals, who am i to say anything
maybe they were at the dentist.
