I would never have figured this out - thanks so much! I thought it was finally time to say goodbye to our 4240 but not yet! It lives to see another day!
Your advice on fixing a stuck sensor just made me a hero at work. Of course, I'd already gone through the trouble of halfway disassembling the printer (to no avail) before I ran across this video, but still, you saved my day.
This is the 2nd time I've had to use your fix to get our check printer back up and running. The first time was 2 years ago and now again today. Worked perfect! Thank you!
The advice was on the spot... It provided me as a new employee to gain some major brownie points... I fixed a recently jammed printer with the card option and a second printer that was down for a few months with the flipping of the sensor option... saving the company $$$$. Thank you again....
Thank you so very much for this video. My 4250dtn had a phantom paper jam and your video showed me exactly how to fix it. If only I had seen it before disassembling & reassembling my printer four times looking for the jam.
Thank you so much for this excellent video! You helped me fix my 13.20 error problem on my HPLaserJet 4000 (purchased in 1998). I didn't even have to mess with the sensor! I removed the toner cartridge and it revealed a stuck piece of paper inside. (I haven't had to replace the toner cartridge since 2007, so who knew removing the toner cartridge reveals stuck paper at the bottom of the printer!) I removed the paper without tearing it. When I re-inserted the toner cartridge, the job that was printing continued to print. I pressed the Cancel Job button, and the job gradually stopped after printing about 12 sheets of strange characters.
I have an HP p4014n that suddenly had a mysterious 13.20.00 Paperjam in tray 2 error that I couldn't clear. I used the cardboard back of a legal pad and followed your procedure! Thank's for the great idea! That's one more headache I can take off my checklist!
I was given a printer that was discarded for parts because it "wouldn't work and would cost more to repair than it was worth." I checked the sensor like you showed and found some debris holding it in the wrong position. When I removed the debris, it printed perfectly, so I now have a free perfectly good "broken" printer that I repaired for free. Thanks for sharing this video.
Brilliant!! The very first solution revealed a whole crumpled piece of paper that was hiding. Saved me some bench time not having to disassemble this for who knows how long.
Thank You! Your video didn't fix my printer, directly. But, it did enlighten me with information of a better understanding of printer function. Because of YOU, my (my workplace) color laserjet 4600dn, is now working like a dream.
thanks for the very instructive tutorial. I spent a whole week on this printer, swapped many different parts but the error remains until I found your video. thanks again
I want to thank you for this video. My 4000n was forever showing a paper jam. But I checked all over the machine and there was no jam. I thought. Tried your paperboard trick and noticed the smallest sliver of white under the registration bar. Tried and tried and tried to get it out. Loosened up many screws and parts and finally got it. Thanks again. Now it's off to the 4000n pulls 2 sheets of paper youtube/google search fun time now.
Thank you! Thank you! Had just the right piece of cardboard to fit the slot. Could not be happier to see the "Ready" display on the printer. This repair fits the "there's a video for that!"
Thanks a lot. I fixed my printer using the first method. Just sad that I tried to lift both trays along with the printer at the same time and dropped the whole printer. But I am happy that its working good now. Thanks again.
Although neither of these fixed our printer in this case, method 2 did finally lead me to spotting the small piece of paper that was lodged in the mechanism which was otherwise hard to spot. Plus I learned these two methods for any future occurrences. Thanks !!
Thank you sir. I spent over an hour trying to determine the cause of the problem the came across you video. Once I reset the sensor, the printer came back online. Took less than 5 minutes to try your tricks.
AWESOME!! The cardboard trick worked like a charm! There was a tiny piece of paper that I couldnt see and shoving the cardboad up knocked it loose. thanks!!
Thanks for the video! I found a small tiny piece of paper that was stuck where that sensor is located. Couldn't have found it without this video!!! Thanks!
Thank you. Very helpful. I did have an actual paper jam, but could not locate it until I followed the second step of removing the envelope cover and pulling down the flap to reveal the jam. Back in service.
Very nice! I had a 90g paper (short fiber) properly collapsed to a thin stripe, stuck at the area of the sensor. Couldn't figure it out on my own, but this video was spot-on. Thank you very much!
I've used the "flossing" technique before and it didn't work in this one case, but sure enough, that little sensor was bound up. Used your video instructions and it worked like a charm! Thanks so much for sharing these helpful videos!
I just wanted to say thanks a bunch for the video. I was almost sure we would have to scrap the printer and buy a new one. Thanks to your tip, it is back in business and chugging along.
Thank you sir, this did the trick for me... the manila folder push through didn't clear it, it was the sensor. Popped right out. Error gone. Thanks again!
Great video! The sensor was my issue, but popping it in place worked for me! I can't believe my company is still using this printer in 2019, but hey, it's still going!
Thank you so much I was able to get my printer working since I’m working from home and can’t go into the office to print things that I need for my classes
thank you very much), I'm from Russia, have long suffered, all because he could not understand what was happening. All sensors are scanned, in general, been very helpful, (I jumped off spring)
Well luckily it wasn't the sensor, but there was a piece of paper all crunched up inside of that area, cleared it and it's working like a champ again. Dude.. You Rock!!
Thanks you for your help. I had a paper jam I could not figure out for the life of me to fix. Had my printer back up running when you went into tray 1. Paper has jammed there and I could t tell from looking at it from top or from below.
Thanks you so much for this video. Worked like a charm. Wow, I almost called a Repairer until I saw your video. You are a Genius. You made me feel like I was one too :-) Thank you
Hi there, i have a 5350N and the sensor seemes to move freely and spring as you suggested, but the first check, the cardboard check doesnt work, seems to hit something hard and firm ? The paper doesnt look like it it being lifted out of the tray ? Any other suggestions pls ?

ABSOLUTELY awesome guys... I have about 10 4250's that we "retired" because of this error. Your sensor flop trick fixed them ALL.
Outstanding!!!

You are my hero. I thought I was going to have to give up on my 20 year old HP4000. But not today! Still prints like new, thank you!
For 3 days I was stumped on how to fix my printer. Within 1 minute, I fixed it after watching this vid. Thanks for posting an informative piece!

The paper doesnt look like it it being lifted out of the tray ?
Any other suggestions pls ?
thats a 4350n sorry
Did you find the issue? I have the same problem. Will print but always "jams" with about 1.75-inch paper under the toner partially fed.
