Up until the city of Orange ordered the homeless to vacate the Santa Ana river/bike trail, that whole area had been skid row. Now that it's been cleared of the homeless, it saves me about a half an hour on my morning commute by cycling to work (I kind of want to get an electric, but I suppose it's keeping me in shape without).

I've used electric bikes to cover most daily transportation needs for the last 18 months, including neighborhood grocery shopping, carrying parcels to UPS, moving a wine rack, and 20+ miles cross town trips.
It's actually fun and keeps me exercising.

about having to drive with cars across intersections:
this is called "vehicular driving" and should not be the norm for bike traffic.
if you have a lighting system, it's more efficient and save for everyone if all cyclists get their own cycle where all sides cross at once.
they have the manouvrability to just go around one another.

I think the main issue with US cities is that they are huge. Everything is far way. Most European cities have everything you need pretty close in comparison. I´m from Lisbon and in my hometown (on the south side of the river) I have everything at walking distance. Other things I can ride a bike and enjoy it.
I remember going to Las Vegas and everything was far AF. During the trip we visited SEMA show, usually we would use a car to get there and seemed pretty close. One day me and a friend decided we would go sooner and walking, to enjoy the city. Took us one hour to get there. It's like the city extended and made the show further then the day before. lol

I have been bike commuting in LA since I moved here over year ago. I currently ride from Highland Park to Hollywood 4-5 days a week (30 miles/day, non-electric assist road bike), and I am definitely one of a very small (but present) number of cycle commuters in the city. I think it takes a certain kind of dedication/crazy to ride constantly out here, but once you know the roads, side streets, and bike paths you can get almost anywhere. It is unquestionably a lifestyle - it governs what I wear, what I eat, and what I deem necessary to bring to work every day. It encourages a minimalist approach to what I bring to work, and I think it ultimately leads to healthier life decisions and a better quality of life. I love biking in LA!

Miner 2049er Start by getting that full size rear rack installed. A backpack like that can be put there no problem and the set of side bags added for heavy load days.
As a dad of a small kid, also get the child seat and footrests for carrying an under 6yo passenger.
Of cause there are also bikes with serious load compartments that can comfortably hold two kids getting dropped off at school or a complete desktop computer in it's box.

Theres various things he could use like a Burley Travoy foldable pull behind trailer (which I use and can vouch for), a Dumb Stick to attach a trailer to or any number of dog or child trailers he could attach to the rear rack. He could also just use panniers. He could also attach a milk crate to the top of the rear rack.

    - Wear a helmet
    - Wear a highly visible reflector vest
    - Always bike with the flow of traffic
    - Be as courteous to the automobiles as possible
    - When you carry stuff, don't lug it on your back. Use the rear rack
    - If you need to carry even more stuff, use a trailer
    - Get front and back lights
    And finally...
    Please be safe!

Pepijn Arts, except this isn’t the Netherlands, our country is 3000 miles across, in most places it would be a waste of paint to make a bike lane, US law requires bikes to follow the same traffic laws of the cars, and there is plenty of space, so no we do not “step it up”.
      Thanks anyway!

Most cities in North America are very spread out due to urban sprawl and this is what explains the lack of cycling infrastructure. If the cities were fairly compact like they are in the Netherlands, I think it's safe to say that you would see considerably more infrastructure being dedicated to walking and cycling.
Some cities in Canada are pursuing a policy of 'densification'; that is, 'growing up' instead of out to reduce or eliminate urban sprawl and preserve arable land as well as natural areas. Densification policies usually include improved cycling facilities.

Charlie Foxtrot With very little traffic, riding and walking without bike lanes and sidewalks should be fine if following European style traffic laws. This limits the investment to bigger roads and school roads. Sometimes narrow alleyways can be redefined as bicycle / pedestrian shortcuts with just a signpost or two. Really wide sidewalks are mostly done in front of shop windows where the stores want people to linger and make impulse buys. Wide bicycle lanes are mostly on really busy bicycle routes where that capacity is actually needed, they're as rare as 6 lane freeways.

I think perhaps you may well have found other ways to get to your destination if you had checked out some of the bicycle paths on google maps, I know I was surprised how many cycle paths there are in London now compared to 10 years ago.
I just wonder if you checked out any advice about routs you could have taken from the cycle shop as they would probably have had many cycle paths on a map.
Also it would have made more sense to go out on weekends first just for a pleasure ride to get used to exploring the area on a bike, it's a whole other world on a bike or escooter compared to driving there are often cut throughs, paths and so on that keep you off the main road and in the back streets.
But if you did check all that out and found nothing then perhaps the city is doomed to be covered in pollution for a long time to come.

From someone who has ebiked over 24,000 miles in California. First, screw the leather saddle. Go Gel seat, your ass will appreciate it. Second, idiots in cars text type. Always duck off the road between cars so you don't get squashed like a bug by some idiot texting. Best at the corner red light to let all traffic pass. Left hand mirror a must, many ebikers and cyclists still looking over their shoulders. They call em Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightening and they are (almost) Parked cars, always try to see through the rearview window before you glide by, while simultaneously looking your left mirror. Flipper can't get you at 4 feet away, see if you can give that left door on cars a 4 foot berth if possible. Don't become a victim of flipper. Next if you are up to it, go kit and screw Jerry Brown-Poop and his stupid laws. Get a app or controller and set to California complaint on a 5KW motor, you will appreciate the mass air in your face off road later. But go kit, you get more for the buck, just grab a walmart or target bike, oh wait (someone from the target mixed bathroom might have sat on the demo bike so order online or boycott Target (your preference - Boycotts are always fun)
Next build your bike. I recommend for most a 1KW (1,000 watt motor) This will get you uphills and through the worst head winds. You can set the controller to mimic 750 watts and limit max speed to 20mph for the B.S. California Compliant Law (by the way gas bike owners get to have 4 hp not your ebike 2hp and they get to go 30MPH, your electric is legally maxed at 20mph) but who's counting? You might Google search "Golden Motor" ebike kits out of Canada. Also check out Lunacycles Mid Drive kits in SoCal, they sell an amped up 1500watt system, not a bad deal.
For higher quality bikes check out "bikesdirect.com" online. Most are using Motobecane Boost Plus bikes with Hydraulic brake lines. Honestly a standard pinch brake will stop you from 35mph (been there done that) For those who want to ride the mainly average 1,000 watt motors check out some of my rides I posted. They look scarier then they really are because of the wide angle setting but they are always fun rides. Peace all, have fun, stay safe... American Author and Poet "Mark Paul" Sebar

Part of the problem is the bike you chose. If you had a bike with a much larger battery you might think differently about using it for long trips. That bike has a 36 volt, 11.6 Ah battery. For the same money as the Blix you can find a number of ebikes with 48 volt systems and batteries with 50% more capacity. I commute on an ebike with a 17.5 Ah, 48V battery, and once I found the most direct biking routes (not necessarily even similar to car traffic routes) My commute time was cut almost by half. My bike also tops out at just under 30MPH. I believe the Blix is limited to 20MPH. Of course it also depends where you are and where you want to go. But I've driven in LA, and except for wanting to avoid the worst parts of the city, I would totally commute on my ebike there.

Bikes and scooters are also very popular and able to avoid traffic jams.

Trading your car for an electric bike is certainly not for most people, but for me it has been freedom.
I have been riding by e-bike instead of a car for over a month. I live in a part of the Westside of LA that's very hilly. I'm in my sixties with physical issues that come with age. When traveling on my e-bike with a ton of photo gear in my camera backpack, I have no issues climbing up a mile long 8% grade hill at the end of a 20 mile roundtrip. In addition I found that traveling by e-bike at many times can be far faster than a car at rush hour. It's fun watching at stop and go traffic when your powering on a bike path next to the road. Furthermore, you can put you e-bike on the front of the bus or take it on to the Metro light rail if you need to travel greater distances.
Just because my bike is electric doesn't mean that I don't get exercise. I have lost a lot of weight and people comment a lot that I look healthier. Maybe it's the endorphins, being on my e-bike does wonders for my attitude.
Yes there are cons. Bike theft is very common, probability falling on your own, possibility of getting hit by a car and I won't ride in the rain. Expenses can add up with good gear such as lighting, helmets, gloves and making bike upgrades.
I don't like to hate on any one, perhaps the Corridor Crew rider could of used bike map apps instead of the awkward road choices that were shown. In my opinion this video presentation is a very poor representation of what it can be like to Replace Your Car for an Electric Bike for One Week.

kcirred htims I think that last part: "... Here's What Happened" gives off that clickbaity vibe. They do explain it in the video, and I can understand why they would title it like that. • @kcired23
      @kcired23 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Franco G click bait is when you title something unrelated to get more views. Reguardless of whether the title gets more views are not it's not click bait because the video is actually about what it said it's about. They didn't mislead anyone in anyway.

    • @yattasuccess9212
      @yattasuccess9212 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Martineeez76 I do kinda agree that is looks very, purposely made to drive attention, but i wouldn't say flat out clickbait, that's too much,
but i wouldn't necessarily prefer these titles that i call "cliche modern youtube video" rather than their more normal and informative style of titles, my preference, but i can see many agree with me too, that the titles don't, go with the good content, i only click on them because of the cool idea the thumbnail or title is implying (since it's not straight up clickbait), and because it's a CorridorCrew video.
edit: You can tell that this trait goes back on forth on and on and on, i don't say that the ads also are bad, since,
      1. They have a time marker,
      2. They're better for the channel,
      3. I wouldn't call every product dumb unless it's absolute dumb.
I just hope Cmike, sees these comments though, so they can experiment and see if it has a positive effect, also going with the new branding.
      Edit 2:
But i do get the, "many videos are fully sponsored and about sponsored products and only about half the segment becomes about normal stuff" i can see that, and i do agree, i wish there more BTS (Behind the scenes) footage, more video development topic videos, more Wren doing cool Tech stuff, but i mean, it's good they even make videos on their downtime while making the Corridor Official videos especially if they make the content still interesting in my opinion.
