I’ve heard in the past if you change your transmission fluid and filter it will shorten the life span of your 4 X 4 truck transmission? My concern is I will shorten the life span of my transfer case if I drain and refill with fresh ATF. I was hoping to get your thoughts. Thank you for your time.
You are confusing a drain and fill with a "Flush" which replaces all of the fluid where as a F&D replaces just part of it, for instance whats in your torque converter and around your gears will stay. The best way to shorten the life of your trans is to ignore the mfg's required maintenance for fluid changes that break down and get contaminated over time.
I was getting to change mine, it's a 2010 Chevy Silverado and this is what I've gathered Both Royal Purple Syncromax and Valvoline Transfer Case Fluid are recommended replacements for Auto-Trak II. They're also both full synthetic and can also be used in transfer cases calling for ATF like DexIII. So if you're not 100% sure what type fluid your transfer case calls for then this is a safe choice.
Yeahhhh 261k here. Yikes. It wasn’t burned black like I thought it’d be though. It was red, even though the manual calls for autotrak II, which is blue.
also agreed. it's all there, no life stories, just the facts. Thanks fella!
Thank you so much, straight to the point!
Nicely Done!

How many quarts did it take?
Transfer cases usually take anywhere from 0.5 - 0.75 quarts of fluid. I think that's what this one took.
I though Sexton auto trak II oil is blue!???

Transmission fluid into a transfer case
I doesnt it use gesr oil
No gear oil here. Just Dexron VI synthetic tranny fluid. I suppose bud light could work in a pinch. That's also TRANNY fluid.
