  • Ken-Tool announces the company’s latest tire changing tool set - the 17.5” Sidewinder Kit (PN 35459). This new kit features five unique tools that allow a technician to easily and safely mount and demount 17.5” low platform trailer, van, and 1-ton dually tires - a single part number solution for quick, easy servicing of these tough tires and wheels!
The kit features the patent-pending 17.5” Sidewinder Demount Tool (PN 35455) that revolutionizes the way these tires are demounted. The design allows a technician to use his body weight to separate the wheel from the tire while keeping the wheel assembly from lifting off the ground. The demount tool is used with the 17.5” Gap Tool (PN 35456) to create an opening between the wheel and tire bead to easily insert the Sidewinder demount tool. The Gap Tool also has a spooned end to provide added “bite” for easier mounting when regular tools may be too thick to be inserted.
For mounting 17.5” tires, the new Sidewinder Mount Tool (PN35457) features a stepped mount end for maximum leverage with the top bead, and a notched spoon end to prevent the tool from slipping off the rim. The Sidewinder kit includes the all-new aluminum Bead Holder (PN 31715) which is designed to fit over steel or alloy wheels to prevent the tire from slipping off the rim during mounting of the top and bottom beads. Also included is Ken-Tool’s patented Leather Rim Protector (PN 31810) to keep the tools from possibly marring the surfaces of alloy or painted wheels.
Please contact your local Ken-Tool distributor for ordering details and availability.

Try these with regular bars and spoons it's way harder. Especially if the drop center is closer to the closed side of the rim.

Bought this kit, it is useless trying to mount a new 18 ply tire. Still trying to get Ken-Tool to let me send it back for a refund. I will gladly keep it if they can make a video mounting a brand new 18 ply tire, but after 3 weeks they have not done this.

The newer 17.5” wheels have the drop zone closer to the face side of the wheel. Can’t use the irons the way shown in the video.

Have these bars can do them on a steel rim swiftly. Also cut a piece of c channel to hold rim down also have a big red forklift to hold c channel to the ground. With a new style aluminum rim from a trailer manufactured within the past few years had to cut the bead a little on both sides to get it on rim without getting injured. Did an aluminum rims from an older trailer with 17.5s, it worked well with that, my rim holder, just had to use the tip of fork to hold tire down to get rim out all the way.

Need something like this for the 19.5 wheels. Looks like this system and method doesn't damage the wheel.

They have a set for the 19.5, I bought this set for a hard case Michelin with European sidewalls where the 2nd bead wanted to hang on for dear life, this 17.5 set didn't help like I hoped but it still has its uses.

I bought this kit and tried to changed New Michelin 17.5 low pro stepdeck tire. Dose not work. Spent 1hr. ripped new tire, maybe other brands are a lot softer and would work i dont know. I did many times 22.5 takes only 5 min, but not this one.

If you take out the tire from the opposite side than it is done in the video, it turns out much easier, as I seen everyone who uses the machine does it that way on allow wheels.

@@rruuuuss Yeah the short sides almost always on the face of the rim now, cant really use these bars with that style. You can demount the second bead the way shown in this video with those special bars but its not that much faster than just using two regular bars. And mounting it is a whole different game. The bar they use is alright but again, you might as well just use a spoon bar and put a little lube on it and slide it in at an angle to save time and money. The bead holders alright, but vice grips and a towel do the same thing. 17.5s are just tough, no way around it that I've been able to find.
