I think this is a good nuanced take on the situation. I'm quite new to watching the sport, found it by discovering Devon. I gotta say I think the trashtalk leading up to matches can be a bit much sometimes, but he tends to back it up and he handles a loss very well I think. What a world it would be if all conflicts were handled in a similar fashion. It looked rough for Espey for a moment but as the dust settles I believe he comes out gaining respect and maybe even teaching some observers a little about life. Being humbled is no fun, but it certainly reveals character.

Went to Ryan Espey’s channel to hear his side and noticed the comments on *all* of his videos are locked. My opinion: He’s too thin-skinned. For the sport and apparently in general, e.g. even dart players indulge in talk trash and gamesmanship. Also, there’s nothing inherently wrong with bullying. In fact, a man's true character is generally revealed by how he deals with bullies. Now, we have a better understanding of the type of man Ryan is.
