You can’t change the follow length directly with FSD.
You can chose Chill, Average, or Assertive, which probably impacts follow distance, as well as other aspects of how the car drives.
That doesn't make sense. Regardless of how aggressively FSD is driving, follow distance shouldn't be selectable by the driver or by FSD. It should be calculated based on speed. Tailgating is one of the leading causes of crashes. The recommended distance is one car length for every 10 mph.
I feel that FSD does not tailgate enough. Keeps too much space between it and the car in front of it, causing other vehicles to cut in front of me. Following closely is kinda what humans do
FSD Following distance is no longer a function of selecting 1 through 7. It's a function of selecting one of the 3 driving styles via pressing the right scroll wheel to: "Chill," "Average," or "Assertive."
You can't use your phone while driving with FSD. Not even while driving with autopilot. You will get warned and kicked out

Tesla just updated FSD today (may 1st), the new version is better than the version I used during the April demo period.
The old version didn't seem to like carpool lanes. The new FSD version used them without any input from the supervisor (me).

The FSD competitive advantage Tesla has today may not translate in the future. Yes, Tesla has billions of miles of training data today, but as AI models mature industry wide, this advantage may not translate. After all, a human doesn’t need to drive billions of miles to learn.
I've thought of this too but I think tesla will have an advantage because other automakers don't have the AI and Nvda who has the AI power doesn't have the scale of autos. Tesla has both and it might be a while before they even catch up and won't be able to compete on price with robotaxis. Well at least that's my guess. But definitely good insight in my opinion.
you simply can't train the AI without data. Data feeds an AI's training engine. no data = a data model with no results.
@@Dirgecaller not an expert but once AI is true general AI you won't have to train it as much because it will be able to learn on its own. So won't need as much data. Just like the person above mentioned, we as people don't need billions of miles of data to drive because we can learn vs train. In the future AI will be the same.
The only ways a pothole could cause FSD to disengage is IF the Supervisor was holding the steering wheel too tightly that the jarring of the car caused the wheel to jerk or (less likely) his/her foot to press the brake pedal.

Elon decided that time had come for Tesla to concentrate on its core skills: manufacturing the chargers, and managing the software infrastructure, but to let the installations proper... obtaining the permits, digging dirt, laying cables and pouring concrete, etc to be done by third parties. The video above, made by Smart Charge America, a company installing destination chargers , and in close contact with the Tesla charging team, explains clearly the historic, exact timing and reasons for that decision. Tesla is therefore not giving up its charging network the least bit, only ceding the installation of chargers to companies whose job it is to do. Those companies did not exist (or did not have the skills) 10+ years ago, forcing Tesla to do the job themselves... but can now be found in every country and region, making the in-house team redundant!
So, it seems to be a perfectly sensible management decision! I just hope that these people, who seemed to have done their jobs most properly, at least so it seems, are going away with decent separation packages!

You don’t set the distance on FSD anymore. That’s only old NoA code. All you can select on FSD now is your profile choice chill, average or assertive.
The stock price rise probably isn't about fsd. I've made the mistake in the past about Wall Street understanding technology. It's about the partnership and the realization that even without fsd, Tesla's data set is valuable.

Following distance is available on Autopilot and enhanced Autopilot, but is not selectable in FSD Supervised. FSD allows you to set chill, regular, or aggressive.
They don't have radar and lidar on cars. Level 4 FSD is impossible without it.
China already has level 4 FSD robotaxis using all 3 technologies combined.

On FSD you cannot change the follow distance. You can only do that in regular auto pilot. However if you choose CHILL mode in FSD it will leave more following distance.... but on its own judgement.

As a Tesla investor I don't want any other OEM signing on to the Tesla RoboTaxi network. I also didn't want the other OEMs signing on to Tesla's chargers, unless they were giving ALL of their government money for chargers to Tesla.

Of the $10B, $4B will be inference which is the FSD hardware per car. $2000 a car X 2million cars built this year =$4B. So $6B spend on AI training compute.

I’d be interested in your take on the reasoning for Musk to fire the entire Supercharging team. He now is wanting to grow the Superchargers at a slower rate. Seems a strange move to fire everyone. You can’t grow at all with no one left other than maintenance division.

You can't change follow distance on FSD today. Follow distance went away with version 11 when code stack merged highway and city. Only way to change follow distance is to disengage. Before v12 it was possible to set speed up/down (like non-TACC cruise control) to keep safe follow distance but now FSD (Supervised) treats user set speed only as a recommendation (even when not using automatic speed offset option). Car can see 4-6 seconds ahead (based on visualization) but highway stack consistently follows at 1 to 1.5 seconds, which is scary. Maybe it can emergency stop in time, but I don't trust the guy behind me. Also, at 1.5 seconds you have no reaction time if lead car swerves last minute to avoid debris or pothole -- ask me how I know. At 1/2 billion miles a month, it might eventually learn to keep safe follow distance or definitely once Tesla takes liability. However, on a rural 55 mph two lane road, FSD will keep decent follow distance.
If the Tesla driver next to Brian on his commute was playing with his phone, then he wasn't paying attention. I have a feeling that's the case with a lot of FSD users. They become complacent and only pay partial attention. Also, one car length at 50 mph is insane. The rule is one car length per 10 mph.
I never pull out my phone on FSD and I am well over 90% of the time on it. Almost immediately, the car gets really mad at you. So I was pretty sure the host was lying about seeing it.
The follow length was replaced with three modes, chill, standard and assertive. He probably has it on assertive

I love this channel. The commentary is informative in a humorous way. I do worry a little about preaching to the choir or being in an echo chamber. But I also watch people like Thunderfoot who definitely has Elon derangement syndrome but some of his points are valid, like Elons chronic optimistic timelines but most of his other criticism is FUD. I think this channels views is much closer to reality then Thunderfoot’s as far as Tesla goes.

YOU CAN NOT USE PHONE WHILE in FSD I have experienced two TESLA FSD BANS, where my FSD Subscription was banned/paused for a week or so, after getting 4 warnings on screen, but that was after driving 36,000 miles, mostly on FSD. Two of the 4 warnings were unexplained and inexplicable, so I called Tesla and was told “the FSD penalties are automated and can not be challenged or reversed- regardless of it being Tesla FSD error, your error- any error” - this is dumb as I did not get what I paid for (lost over a week of Subscription) and you can’t challenge a bad call by the FSD System. There must be a better way to deal with issues other than terminating FSD Services- while still making you pay! There’s no refund! 😂

Anyone who knows anything about advertising know that a recommendation or referral by an unpaid, unbiased source is worth more than $5,000+ of advertising. Probably even more than that. This guy talking about the millions of Tesla owners telling others about FSD is worth millions upon millions of dollars in advertising. It's almost impossible to measure.
