This is a really good video and I will most likely be doing something very similar with a chamber of commerce website. Thanks for the video and info, love your hair and your pretty cute in your commentary.
Can you do this on any Wix website. I have someone who can do most of the website and he said he won't be able to do this part. Is there different payment plan needed to be able to do this (developer plan or something) But I figured I could take the time to do it.
Hello ! thank you for this excellent video ! I have followed steps and everything works perfectly. I have created a contact list and I am using alpha letters to sort. It works - except it pushes a huge space between the sorting section and the list. So for example when I hit A - only the members with A tag appear but they appear very far down the screen with alot of white space in between. Any ideas why and where I can look to resolve ? Thank you !
This is brilliant! Thankyou. Just to get more technical with it, is there a way for people to upload their own listings? Lets say we had a member login and they wanted to add and manage their own listings. Is there an easy way for that?
Hi there! There's definitely a way to allow users/members to upload information, you might benefit from adding Memberships to your site: support.wix.com/en/article/wix-bookings-about-memberships-and-packages#memberships
We have a membership site and want to add a directory for members to find eachother. The way we have it now is not very pleasing to the eye. Can you use the way you described on this video for a directory that automatically gets populated when a member buys a membership on the site?
You make it easy to understand! Once this type of directory is created, is it easy to take the next step and add members to the site, so members can update their own listing? Or should the member site be created first?
Yes! You just use the CSV/spreadsheet that you created to add new members, this wouldn't really be the type of setup where members would be updating their own information but I suppose you could give the members permissions to edit the spreadsheet if they did want to update the info themselves- that can get a little risky though if they make mistakes while in the spreadsheet!
Hiya great video - in the intro you had the dropdown then search button but in the demo the dropdown was automatically filtering it. Is there a simple solution to have it where you drop down then click the search button? Thanks!
I love your tutorials and really appreciate you sharing your knowledge! I'm actually wondering if I can expand this quite a bit to include a user-friendly "database/library" for books (in the hundreds). So essentially, I'd want to include an external link to that book for each search result. Would you still recommend this method on Wix? Or would there be a different style or layout that might be more appropriate?? Thanks in advance!
Oh what a creative project. I do think that using CMS would be the best way to keep track of all of that data. You could create a simple spreadsheet with the book title, author, link, and perhaps cover image if you wanted to get fancy. Best of luck!
How do you create a filter that can filter by more than one field? Say I want to be able to filter by profession but would like to add ratings as well to each service provider and be able to filter by rating too?
Is there a way to create a business directory just like this, but instead of a search field, have A-Z clickable buttons that will filter by the business name??
I think you might be asking how to link a website (url) and an email address within the CMS so that they are clickable links on each member's page? When you are selecting the field type in the CMS for the url you want to select URL (links) and type in the full url, then you will need to connect that field to something on the front end (in the Editor) like a button or linked text. For a clickable email I would actually have to look into that a little bit - let me do some research and I can provide a video tutorial for it!
When you create a form it does automatically put all of those submissions into a dataset which you could connect to your repeater instead of a dataset that you have created - be aware that you would have to monitor submissions closely to avoid any information you don't want on your directory showing up there. Best of luck!
@@wixmadesimple I/We really do appriciate you taking the time to reply. I've been dipping my toes into creating a Classifieds/Directory for some time, and only now do I have the time to devote to it fulltime. Thank you for the advice and Thank you so much for your videos they are really inspiring.
I have a catalog of hundreds of products on my website. I want the user to be able to filter products and save the filtered product link for themselves or send it to someone else and when they click on that link only the filtered products are displayed. Is it possible to do this on Wix?
if I understand you correctly then yes, it's possible. If you use the standard store filter for Wix stores- anytime you apply filters and display the results you can copy and paste that URL to take you back to the filtered results. I've used that link to break down large product catalogues into "blues" and "reds" etc for quick links on a home page. Now, getting your client/customer to understand that process might be a different story but in terms of generating a filtered product URL, yes! that can be done. hope that helps!
Do you not like the new wix studio? I didn't like editor x but really like the studio version. It does take some getting use to but once familiar its pretty good.
Honestly I haven't spent much time in it (yet)! I'm so comfortable with the classic Editor I know there will be a little learning curve but they definitely offer incentives for Wix Partners to build in Studio!
May your coffee always be warm and your pillow always be cool. You only deserve the best things in life, this was amazing.
Haha! Now that is a thank you I can get behind, sounds lovely. So glad this was helpful! Cheers!

@@unpluggedfreedom1 You don't need to be on any specific plan to add this kind of directory - it can be built even on a free website. Hope that helps!

Glad you found it!

I feel like I should say i love you! I have been beating my head on this for weeks!! Any chance you can do a LOAD MORE ?

Great tutorial! Is there a way to make drop-down filter by multiple items? For example, search items by tags, then by year.
Thank you! That's a great question and something I can definitely add to my list of video tutorials to record!
Hi! When creating tags, can you put several columns on the cms to filter and filter diferent categories at the same time?
Thanks!

Is there a way to filter by location?
How do you add the ability to review and star each person on the cms
Can you search by BOTH the type of business AND by zipcode?
How do you create a filter that can filter by more than one field? Say I want to be able to filter by profession but would like to add ratings as well to each service provider and be able to filter by rating too?
I have a question about WIX search/filtering, but I haven’t formulated it yet. I’ll come back later :D
Sounds good!
what if you need to search by more then one filter? You can't use 2 buttons and connect it looks like you have to use code?

Can you upload a spreadsheet instead of adding each item manually?
Yes, you can upload a .csv to populate the fields in your CMS!
How do we publish the website and email fields in the cms so that it can be viewed once you visit each team member's page?

Oooh try again at Ashley.dedin@gmail.com
Quick question. Why can't I make this longer than 12 people for the directory? I have 100 members. What can work?
You can absolutely add more than 12 people to your CMS - just create new rows for all of your members :)
