I’ve used Virkon Aquatic throughout last year. No sign of Carp Pox this winter. I’ve never noticed it have any affect on my filter bacteria. It’s good for helping heal any fish with injuries or scrapes.

Should done a full length of the foil koi cover I sulation .as it works when wrapped round fully with no gaps.! ... I'm going to put in my filter box one end a small pond tank heater on timer for 3 hrs per morning ..around 3 am . If my temp drops below mins 1 deg.... ? 😊
Also... you could wrap a large sheet of foil over the topos pond .might help..habe a good day

Nice that the sun when we do get some hit's the filter house as well Andy at this time of year every bit helps the temps down hear have taken a dive as well its the first real cold snap we have seen in Devon over a week now of night temps below zero. Have a good weekend mate

The forecast for home this week is down to -5😢 but where we are is 26c😂. I'll stay here for now. Interesting thoughs re the virkon. I have mine ready to use but I did wonder how we know it is doing what it is supposed to do. I thought you were supposed to use it weekly. That insulation should help. Back to the sunshine for me. Stay warm.

VIRCON is a disinfectant used for lots of different things cleaning chicken coops out stables, farm equipment etc. PS my dosage is one tablet per 1000 gallons.
That is for reflecting heat like the stuff you put behind radiators better to use bubblerap.
Would you consider a heater? I’m just getting in to the pond side . I’m learning a lot. 👍
Hiya, welcome to this great hobby.. We all would like to heat the ponds as it would allow us to feed throughout the year for max growth. The costs of heating and maintaining 7 tonnes of water would be out of my cost range unfortunately. The Koi don't like sudden changes in temps but can withstand season changes. Some also say it not a bad thing to allow the fish to live through the seasons so it's a more natural environment rather than creating an artificial temp. Good luck with your pond. I've got loads of content on the channel that will help you.. Every day is a school day..

I’m really not sure that insulation would make any difference to the temperatures in your filter house. You would need to be insulated on all sides and base avoiding any cold spots (gaps) to have any meaningful difference.
The moving water will generally prevent freezing & increasing flow rate when really cold will reduce risk more than foil backed bubble wrap.
But if it makes you happy & creates content then £20 well spent 👍

Don't forget, that the Virkon Aquatic tablets will kill bacteria, both good and bad.

Another great time listening and watching you, my filters sit outside but I do cover them I've used old offcuts of artificial grass it's rubber backed seems to work, I've a north facing garden and guess what we're both Stokies, loving everything you put out for us fishy folk ok duck 😅. 🧓 Gwen.

Hiya, my pond does have insulation under the fibreglass but i think if I tried adding insulation around it, it would take alot for little gain..
Watch out for your probe getting frozen. Without water, Kactoily's existence would be meaningless hhh.

I have no insulation and my pond froze over for three consecutive days this week, today it partially thawed. Amazingly the koi are still alive, they must be cold blooded or something 🤔
Hiya, my old pond froze over and even the floating ball I.put on it froze into the ice... that's another reason why I use the covers that seem to stop the freezing at the moment...😉👍
