Everything you said here is right on point brother....NBC was actually my job in the army so I got used to having my mask and suit with me at all times. The mask I started off with was a usgi m17, and later we upgraded to m40 masks, and we had the full charcoal lined mopp suit and butyl rubber gloves and boots, and we were protected from pretty much any biological or chemical threat... And some degree of radiological as well depending on the radiation level. You have put together a very good set of ppe preps there my friend... Keep the great informative videos coming.

I purchased 2, M17 gas masks. And one of the charcoal lined mopp suits still sealed in original bag. Lots of replacement filters for mask i put away and rubber gloves, no over boots yet.
Should be good enough and masks still seal properly and bought new replacement parts to rebuild masks several times.
Also found laser protective goggles and outserts for masks

If i may add more info. Keep your butyl rubber gloves and mask as well as inlet and outlet valves covered in a light coat of talcum powder. The small silicone/butyl rubber outlet valve disks can sometimes stick. The gloves can be a pain to put on if they were in a hot environment. The talcum powder will stop the finger thumbs from sticking together. Also add a roll of duct tape to your list to seal the gloves and boots to your suit. Many have been contaminated because they raised their arms above their heads and the agent slid along the outside of the glove and got underneath the suit.

Agree with Dave , also when using the tape to seal the gloves to suit . Once completed tapping around the wrist, use more tape and make a fold like a tab. That will aid in removing the suit. Also watch a video on how to property take off a suit once it comes into contact with a contaminant. You can have the greatest PPE on the market. But it'll be useless if you Doff the gear improperly.

Problem with those masks is that you’re not gonna know when to put it on. Most chemical/biological agents are odorless or have an oder that you won’t recognize. Still, better to have that stuff than to not have it. Also, maybe a good pair of leather gloves to go over those rubber gloves in case you gotta do some work.

This is for you reading the comments, who is considering buying a gas mask:
While I certainly recommend having a gas mask (I think every home should have one for each family member), you need to focus on what is more likely.
You aren't likely to be exposed to nerve or blister agents, no matter how many times he says "sarin" or "mustard gas". The reality is without atropine, you arent going to make it through a sarin attack. And if a blister agent is being deployed, it would be wiser to don the mask and run, rather than put on a hazmat suit THEN run. Is it possible that WW3 can pop off with gas attacks and rain radioactive dust? It's possible I suppose, but not very likely. Plan for what is more likely to happen:
Get a couple CBRN filters to protect you in the event of a large chemical spill or industrial mishap (like the chlorine gas explosion at the port in Jordan).
Get a couple police riot filters to protect you from teargas.
Get a couple smoke filters to help you escape a housefire/wildfire.

Beards can be kept as some soldiers in the Iran Iraq war used Vaseline petroleum gel to coat their beards before donning the mask they used . I have the SGE 400/3 BB mask and carry it in the old m40 gas mask carrier. Much better than the one you have. Yours takes longer to don and clear than mine. I have the old m40 FPM as well but instantly loved my new mask after donning it. Superior peripheral vision. I served six active Army NBC and 14 active USMC NBC and was in the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force when it was founded. In my opinion any filter that is 40mm will do as in a SHTF scenario you will most likely face CS/home made choking agents and not battle field NBC attacks. Having said that i do have multiple canisters for long term use. Step one: Get a correctly sized mask. Step two: Learn how to use it and maintain it. Step Three: Practice wearing it and if possible firing multiple weapons while wearing it.

You are so good on this topic. All of the things you have on the table are good gear. Especially the masks and filters. Great gloves also. This is the first video of yours that I have had a question about. This is very important. Those are very good hazmat suits (don't do a lot of heavy work in them). If you need to wear a them and go through a contaminated area, Where is your decontamination (decon) and doffing area? Who will be helping you with your decon? The answers to that should be part of this prep.

That beard of yours looks all cool, but it renders those masks useless. They won’t seal properly. You’ll have to shave it. 🙁 If you can smell perfumes or cleaners, it’s not sealing. Great vid! Nerve agents, esp US made stuff is persistent. Meaning it absorbs in to materials, even paint and can off gas later and kill you. Our Nerve agent is also heavier than air, so it displaces it. It was designed to linger in trenches and Russian naval vessels. Even if your wearing the mask, you can’t breath because it’s pushed the O2 out of the area. People will rip their masks off because they’re breathing, but they’re not getting O2. Then they get exposed, either way it’s a bad day. Nasty stuff! You waited to the very end and covered it after I typed all of this, lol.

Last year, southern Nevada where I live had about a week of very poor air quality and poor visibility because of smoke from California wild fires. So for a week we stayed indoors except for short walks outside to pick up the daily mail. When we did go outside we wore washable polyester dust masks and those masks did a fairly good job of filtering smoke too. We did not need to turn off our air conditioners -- the smoke was not so bad we had to prevent the air conditioning system from bringing in some outside air.
I never again want to train in MOP gear. I hated wearing the NBC gas mask, hood, those clumsy rubber gloves, that heavy suit with the layer of charcoal, and those laced on rubber boot covers that went over the combat boots. That gear quickly became unpleasantly hot to wear even during cool weather and produced a lot of sweating. I cannot imagine wearing my own personal NBC sauna suit outdoors during the summer here in the Mojave desert where outdoor temperatures regularly reach 110" F.
In our household, the plan is to stay prepared to evacuate to a clean zone if there is the threat that outdoor conditions will become hazardous to humans because of radioactive plumes or toxic chemical spills. If the hazard is considered mild and of short duration, we will just shelter in place if the weather is cool. We have the means to seal up all the doors, windows and vents with duck/duct tape and plastic sheeting. If the weather is too hot to go without air conditioning, we will just evacuate. No way am I ever going to voluntarily put on MOP gear again.
If you opt for having NBC masks, make sure you know how to check for a good seal and how to clear that mask. And make sure you know how to safely clean those masks after every use. The masks come in different sizes and women and teens often need the small or extra small size. Eyeglasses will not fit inside most NBC gas masks, so you may need special eyeglasses designed to fit inside the mask if you have corrected vision. And forget about wearing contact lenses with a gas mask unless you are willing to not be able to do anything about a painful chunk of dust or an eyelash that gets under the lens. Tear gas canisters provide the opportunity for a realistic test of the seal on your NBC mask (only do this outdoors and stay outdoors for about 30 minutes afterwards so you do not bring the tear gas indoors with you).
If you have the least bit of claustrophobia, forget about suiting up in gas mask and hood -- imagine having something over your face and head that limits your visual field, requires conscious effort to breathe, smells like rubber, muffles sounds to the point that mainly you hear yourself breathing and is hard to remove. And if you have congested sinuses from allergies or a cold, you will have to breathe through your mouth which will immediately fog the face shield to the point you cannot see anything but a white glow. I can say from personal experience that stumbling around blind and disoriented outdoors because of a fogged gas mask is not fun.
My best advice is unless you are part of the team moving ebola patients or shutting down the damaged nuclear reactor or are leaving your fallout shelter to clear radioactive ash off the solar panels, there are easier alternatives to suiting up in NBC full protective gear. Just evacuate to a clean zone or shelter in place, depending upon the threat level and save yourself a lot of money that you would have spent buying NBC gear. Good luck and stay safe.

Great video, and thanks for the insight on where to acquire some of the gear. I have an Avon c50 with cbrnf12b filters, not the best shelf life, but what I could afford. I would also add some activated carbon / charcoal to the set of supplies as you may need to decontaminate when reentering the home after an outing, sometimes charcoal is needed in conjunction with bleach. One of my CBRN concerns is a blister agent where it is dispersed using an oil as a catalyst, so it will stick to everything and be a nightmare to clean off. I keep 2 bars of shave soap JIC I need to loose the beard, I don’t have to worry about it going bad or depressurizing, and it lasts a long time, just add water.

@@DMF716 After reading the civil defence fallout shelter plans watch movies like "Threads" and see how pathetic the advice is. The best 'shelter' is to evacuate the US, the Storm Center of the next war. If you DON'T evacuate and you survive the nukes you WILL evacuate on unseaworthy vessels as refugees. I can't give an exact date for the war but Deep State have been putting the date in coded format in ALL Hollywood movies for the past 35 years at least. Here are some:

@Guess Who's Back I can only look at the evidence and follow that guidance. Clearly these codes are in the movies, news, computer games. A sample was in the post I made above. The more apocalyptic the movie the more prominent & frequent the code. There are flaws in Deep State's plans. For example when they die & face their judgement they will understand they should have been kinder. And we all know they have lavish underground bunkers to wait out the cooling off of the fallout. What their minions don't know yet is that Deep State will be in a separte bunker and the illuminati-freemason bunker will become their tomb.

Well A good basement is a good start. You just need to mass (Shielding) at the ceiling. This could be done using sand bags, bricks, etc. Biggest issue is having an air filteration system since most homes leak a lot of air. You could construct a fairly air tight room in a basement and than set up an air filteration system for the room.
Best option is to not be near any targets, nuclear power plants or chemical plants. No be downwind of them.

"It is not like canned food where it has a best by date"
It's better than that- because it has a 20 year guarantee doesnt mean that as soon as it is 21 years old it just falls apart, but rather MIRA guarantees its ability to work for up to 20 years. Will it work another 5, 10, 20 years? Yes, but MIRA wont guarantee that. Say you buy a television with a 3 year guarantee. Does it stop working after 3 years? Same things with gas masks. Filters expire, but the masks themselves (when stored properly) have an indefinite lifespan. I DID NOT say "infinite".

So Micheal Hawk is a retired career Special Forces Officer, he is host of Man Woman Wild and a Subject Matter Expert on everything survival. In an interview about survival in general he had nothing good to say about NBC threats as they require so much specialized training to put on the equipment, operate in the equipment, and DECONTAMINATION. NBC threats will kill and contaminate if not decon properly and that is almost impossible without a team of people specialized in HAZMAT.

  • @guytech7310

FWIW: I would recommend a PAPR over a gas mask. The issue with the masks is they restrict your breathing and if do anything requiring effort your going to quickly run out of breath. Also those masks are prone to fogging. A PAPR has a powered air filter to provide continuous airflow. PAPR are used in hospitals (biological) and industrial plants (chemical) & also in use by Military for radiological events.
Second I would recommend a kit of Tyvek suits because you can afford to depose them if you need to consider the suits need to be decontaminated if your planning to store them inside. Tyvek suits are used in hospitals and do provide protection for radiological contamination. I have doubts that you need to use a suit in a situation that involves chemicals that can degrade by corrosion or leakage.
If an chemical attack happens its likely going to happen in a public space which you probably won't be wearing a full hazmat suit. For everyday carry, I would keep an N100 Mask close by, and a Gas mask or PAPR in a vehicle. I don't think any is going to strap a Gas mask to their hip when doing everyday tasks (Groceries, shopping, etc).

I’d want to be able to tape my sleeves to gloves, etc. Also want to be able to cover windows, doors, etc, with wet cloth and set up a decon area with plastic sheeting for coming back in. Plastic kiddie pool to catch contaminated water from sluicing off. Oh, and bleach. Lotsa bleach, many uses. Also would want some boxes of nitrile gloves and disinfectant wipes.

I found this video very helpful. Last year when parrot of the interstate was on fire in Atlanta, I realized that a gas mask could be life saving in times of peace. It was a wake up call to the fact that ditching a very capable Jeep rubicon can be a realistic expectation. The surplus masks may contain asbestos, and maybe all the older stuff does. I don't know how to tell which filter canisters do, so the info on the newer 40mm canisters is a big help that I'm grateful for.
