Cool collection of Japanese guitars. I still own one from the late 70s, as it was my first guitar. They are built well and made to last. Thanks for posting.

The Matsumoko/Commodore/ Ventura N25 semi is a beautiful Guitar. I have one with a Vibrola marketed as a Commodore. Epiphone also had their name on this Guitar for couple of years but they are rare.

That’s some really cool stuff. That guitar at 5:48 is a trip!
I also love checking out your wall of guitars in the background. Stay safe. Keep rockin.

I would play every one of them, that Telecaster and the black LP.

My first electric was a Vantage Avenger made in Japan in the very early 80's. 40 years later, even though I beat the crap out of it, never had a case-always up against a corner, it still holds it's tuning better and plays better than a lot of my post millennial guitars made in USA, and is acoustically nice and loud. Crazy!!

Early 80s Vantage=Matsumoku at the very top of their game.

You have A LOT of cool guitars in your shop. Love your decisions on which guitar to bring and sell and which you not.

The 3rrd guitar on the couch that you just polished, that one looks a lot like a Horugel I had, same bridge, same pickups, same trusrod plate, same string retainer . Absolutely good guitars. Nice video!

I have two Japanese guitar. One is a Mosrite great guitar, needs nothing else said about it. The other is a hollow body thin double cut away. Headstock say Orlando, but it was made by Matsoruko. Made late 64 early 65. This plant would turn this guitar into the Epiphone 335. Great guitar

Ive found a handful of nearly exact MIJ Teles online, but the brands really vary. I've seen Ibanez, Eros, Grant, etc. Safe to say they're out of the same factory

I never expected those to achieve cult status. I remember in the mid 80s when you could get them for £10 and people STILL didn't buy them.

The nameless tele style guitar very closely matches one I have. Same look, same TRC, no markings. Mine has the blade swtich still and the bridge plate is a slightly different. HIdden by the ashtray mind you, but once it is popped off there a visual differences. I see in the comments someone states that it is a Granada. I will have to check that out. I am having a hard time determining the origin. 70s MIJ is all I have lol.

The pickups on the Sekova and Hohner Les Pauls may actually be single coils. They look exactly like the ones on my 70s Kay K-30 Les Paul copy (Pole-screw heads are large and flat on top). And the last Tulip you showed was my first electric guitar, bought in Woolco dept store in the late 70s (Except mine was branded Kay). :)

I am such a huge fan of the pre-lawsuit MIJ stuff. I have two Arias - on SG clone from 71, and an E3xx with triple pickup from the 60's both made in the Matsuoka plant. I *really* want a similar era Aria bass.

Just picked up a 85 Aria Pro ll zzb Explorer shape with two Humbuckers, it's a monster. In the last two years I picked up a 83 Westone Concord bass,80 Westbury Track ll bass,85 Aria Pro ll RS Night Warrior and the Ari zz Deluxe guitar and I had a 80 Westbury Standard double cut with stock Dimarzio super distortion pups, I just sold a 83 B.C. Rich Bitch N.J. series for $500 that I had for 20 years twenty years that was made in Japan, and I sold it in a day, I should have sold it for more money but I paid $150 20 years ago with original case. I still love my Gibsons, Fenders and Guilds but I won't buy another unless I get it for a great price. I am getting better fixing them and setting them up so that helps. Next I'm looking for a Antoria Gold Top Les Paul and maybe Grecco SG.

@2.37, that neck looks shot with the hole down to the truss rod at fourth fret, d- string! These things have gotten so overvalued it's not funny! Some of them are ok, but most are middlling at best!

    • @LeviBulger

Very true, but the good ones are usually REALLY good. It really comes down to the individual builders and how much effort they put into them. Lots of Japanese luthiers were meticulous as hell in the 80s, but all the good ones ended up going to Fujigen and working for Fender. The MIJ Fenders from the 90s are phenomenal. But I agree that the vast majority of them were just built quickly to sell as many as possible before the lawsuits could be settled lol. Lots of crap out there.

@@LeviBulger Lots of guitars that were cheap and never got set up properly but that with a bit of adjustment and TLC can be great fun. Prices are still pretty low too. I have 5 Aria/Aria Pro II/Aria Diamond guitars out of the Matsumoku factory from the years 72-85 - some of them were in a right state when I got them. After I'd done with them the 2 strats play at least as well as an out of the box Fender Mexico Classic 70s for a total investment under the price of an Affinity. My Aria CS400 and RS Knight Warrior are up there with my Fender Japan Jaguar and Yamaha SG1000 for playability. I have an Aria like the sunburst hollow body one on this video too... That took a LOT of work and the pickups are very weird - but I turned it around. It ain't a Gibson and doesn't sound like one - but put a set of flatwounds on and it sure became fun to mess around with. I also have a Jazzmaster clone like Kevin Shields used to have on the way. Looking forward to seeing what that's like. Total money I have kicked into those 6 guitars (one one of them I bought brand new at RRP in 1985) wouldn't even buy me a Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster and I didn't feel bad about modding them where needed.

I am eating pickled mussels. Are you eating pickled mussels? I like pickled mussels. Do you like pickled mussels? I get my pickled mussels from the fishmonger. Do you get your pickled mussels from the fishmonger? The man upstairs is called Raymond. Raymond says I smell. He slams the door in my face. How many jars of pickled mussels do you have in your cupboard? I have 4 jars of pickled mussels in my cupboard.

Given the costs of the big US brands many of these are sleepers. Fender andGibsonbcharge way too much, get an 80s Tokai or Greco .
I've sold my big brand guitars, good luck to the new owners but I regret nothing. It's very cathartic, many of us have a ridiculous GAS problem
