When I was 10 years old I had a Raccoon, hes was so fun as a pet , I also found him when he was few days old , one thing he didn't like dead fish but he ate the fish in the pond . the only Problem he was very protected with me and I was the only one able to touch him.
It's all fun and games until you find out the racoon has rebuilt your car into a starfighter with blasters & torpedoes and takes it out for a strafing run at the dogs next door.
As much as I love raccoons and enjoy the idea of owning one, I know that they are way too high maintenance for me. I think I'd rather just admire them from afar. 😅
Yes, it's like having a 2 yr old. They get into everything, climb everything and break your things. They take over your life, unlike dogs or cats. Plus, they play very rough and you get scratched and bitten because they think it's play. Mine like to pull on my hair and steal my scrunchies🦝they are sweet a lot but still a handful!
I had a hurt raccoon live on my deck for a few days while he was healing. He would see when the dogs got fed and ask to be fed as well. We told him he could stay until he was better and a week later he left. I see him around the hood every now and again.
What an awesome pet and awesome video! People who love animals and treat them well are the best! You will be rewarded one day more than you can ever imagine!!!!
The raccoons I feed love chicken and they love French fries and they love vanilla wafers or fig Newtons Their favorite chicken is like pieces of chicken strips like the breaded chicken strips or chicken nuggets They love everything I love Birds of a feather flock together LO love your pet raccoon he looks very well taken care of I hope you have many years of fun with him. By the way a couple of my raccoons that I feed they're not mine but I go and feed them where they are in the woods I stay in my car and I throw the food to them and I call them and they come out and one of my names Bubba And another one rocky And mama and they know their names and when I call them they come out and the ones that don't have names I call little baby little baby and they come running out of the woods for me to feed them and they're afraid of everybody else but me it's really funny And when they hear a loud noise they run and I tell him come back come back little baby little baby it's Then they come back it's really cuthey are my true friends lol Some of them fight over their food and some don't I have to tell them now let him get some leave him alone and they look at me like yeah OK all right lol
Do you live in a state that allows this? Wish we did. We did rescue a very young raccoon last year, but now lives on its own because it is illegal in our state. We might still have it if it wasn’t.
I've been a rehabber for years and have had several that were deemed non releasable so I've provided a safe healthy and loving home for them. Raccoons are my passion but I'll be the first to tell anyone that they DON'T make good pets. Raccoon proofing a house is an ongoing process. Sometimes day to day things have to be secured or adjusted. I have a cordless screwdriver and screws on my counter at all times. The list is quite long on things I've done to my house. Here's some of them. All of the heating vent covers we screwed to the wall for the floor. All of the electrical outlets have to have safety covers over them. TV has to be mounted to the wall. Lamps have to be secured to the tables. All the water faucets have locks on them. The stove in the oven knobs have to be removed. Cabinets and drawers must have locks. Refrigerator freezer must be locked. All of my electrical cords are run through PVC pipe so they can't chew on them. I have quarter inch thick plexiglass 4-foot high from the floor up screwed to the wall so they can't eat through the drywall or try to climb the walls. The list goes on and on. Raccoons as a rule can't be left alone in your house. It's a pretty good chance that you'll be calling your insurance agent LOL
@@RonsRaccoonFunHouse thank you for this Wonderful, extensive description Ron! Thats so helpful, why do You choose to have them? And how do you cope with going to work and visiting relitives and going out to pay bills/grocery shop ect ect if you dont mind lending me some more of your time
Cutting a tree 🌴 down at work there were 3 baby raccoons in it ,I became a instant daddy, have had them 10 days now , eyes aren't open yet ,so they were young,I'm 60 and these guys are the best thing ever other than my dog Sasha,I Will keep all 3 2 girls and a boy,I look forward to the challenge of my new trash 🐼🐼🐼, life is short and sometimes things are supposed to be,I had just asked a local rehab if he had any baby 🍼 baby's ,2 wks later these guys came into my life 💖 ,as soon as I seen them I knew, and thanked God for giving me a purpose, looking forward to the challenge,❤ these guys, named the boy rocket 🚀, to my enjoyed your video thanks 🦝🦝🦝✌️
Day 24 eyes are open and they are on the move, one female is really Small she's my sweetheart, keeping all 3 ,no turning back know ❤️💕💖 these little guys,
We started feeding a raccoon four years ago. The second spring she brought in five babies. The third another five and last year five. Now we have twenty some babies coming in and multiple adults. They will actually bring the babies in and leave them with us and leave for a short time. A couple adults take food from our hands. They are the coolest animals. They definitely love water and dip their food and hands in it constantly. We have a kid pool for them and multiple bowls of water. We obviously live in the sticks. Raccoons 🦝 Rock!
So much info, thanks for making this video! I always wondered what it was like to have a raccoon as a pet. I see what you mean, not like a cat or a dog, and he definitely looks very spiffy and vivacious XD I love how they look!
Sure wish we had a vet that was willing to give shots to and neuter raccoons. I am in Canada. And while most of the wildlife rules don't necessarily care if you keep one as a pet, they won't treat them or give shots or neuter Oh and by the way, 8 is not old for a raccoon in captivity. In the wild they only like around 3 years, but it captivity with the proper care, they can live to 20 years old
I found a baby raccoon she is very small, I had to wash her in Dawn she was infested with maggot eggs, in her ears as well, I cleaned out her ears, her mother was dead on the side of the road. This was just Sunday. What can I do for her? I give her a bottle of water. She licks apples, how much are rabies shots?
We saved a baby raccoon last summer when it was a heat wave and we found her almost dead on the side of the road. We kept her indoors till the fall then she lived in a pen for the winter and in the spring we released her in the woods. She still comes back every night to eat and drink but she’s just like any other wild raccoon she’s doesn’t come near humans much
Im glad you brought up that disgusting video those people uploaded of the raccoon washing his cotton candy.. they knew what would happen, they're monsters
I have a pet raccoon. He lives in the wild but comes to visit everyday for meals. He or she trys to come in house but am afraid he might to something bad. He seems tame enough but came at adult age. Is it best to raise them as babies.
raccoons remind me of otters. they both experience everything with their hands. are raccoons in the weasel family? iunno. it's just the handsy thing that really sticks out to me.
So cute and I do know someone that actually rised a Raccoon when she was a baby I guess the mama left her and here in new Jersey and now she's all grown up and cute and she have all her shot, here in the states of New Jersey it's allowed to keep a Raccoon as a pet so seeing this video it remind me my friends raccoon...
We have a raccoon that likes to stop by our porch and eat our cats food. Our cats are cool with him, they literally hang out with him while he eats. Sometimes they eat with him. He pisses my wife off by always getting the cats water bowls dirty. We’ve named him raccacoony. Always a joy when he stops by to visit. And I also hate seafood and vegetables 😆
Never let them tell you animals need to be bred by and be around humans for thousands of years before they're fit to be a pet...its a myth. As mentioned, take sick or young animals to a rehabber, and if they have no room, they may allow you to do the job if you like. Wild animals as pets are just as good as domestic in cases like this video where the animal can't cut it in the wild. Even an adult cat or whatever who was never around humans would have to be tamed. Generally speaking and when given the time most any wild animal can be tamed but best to start with a baby if possible or pre tamed. I personally would stay away from elephants or anything so large they may accidently hurt you. Use common sense, and some laws work on that basis, while others may not, however the law is the law so... Also, always remember, every state has a law that may be different on this, ranging anywhere from you may catch certain animals directlty from the wild, any age and make a pet out of them, to going through all kinds of red tape to aquire one or acquiring one is not allowed at all. They all, including domestics, have their idiosyncrasies, so always be aware of what you're getting into and remember, often enough, even domestic animals are more than some can handle. I would guess we could always find someone happy to give any animal a loving home if things don't work out. All to often we see here on youtube someone showing their glorious exotic animal and telling us how great it is while stating the disclaimer ""Wild animals belong in the wild and don't make good pets" when their video is all about just the opposite, makes no sense. Main point... Do your research, don't let the naysayers talk you out of a delightful, legal experience just like this gal has. You may very well end up thinking...why didn't I do this a long time ago.😅
Pets are such a huge responsibility - even the more common ones - so I give you the utmost kudos for taking care of this beautiful baby!
So adorable! Rico is lucky to have found a loving forever home with your family. 💖💖

Too much work. Yes, they are adorable.
Best thing to do is just provide wild raccoons with a safe place to live and fresh water to drink. As i do with all wild animals in my back yard.

So curious about where he sleeps!?
He is so cute, I bet it demands lots of attention and this may be an issue for some folks.

Isnt it a wild animal ?
Besides cats and dogs, I love racoon too! Too bad theres no racoons here in the Philippines. 😅

Real goldfish? As in swimming in fish bowl goldfish?
Goldfish crackers
Does he ever bite?
Why does he have a bare spot on his back?
Well done.
Make a video feeding him Dominos
You are very fortunate his isn't that destructive. Cheesy bread be careful of the garlic. Which is probably toxic to them.
What state do you live in ?
Nice cute .next location pet fox no rabbies my next pet
What’s the raccoons name
Not washing their food- they do not make saliva like us so water acts as a lubricant. She should know this.
He's cool!!!
Cute!
