Thanks for watching. I saw a reel somewhere of a food truck vendor selling baked potatoes in Lancashire and I said "that guy sounds exactly like ReadingIDEAS"
Ahh, an art interlude. These are lovely, thanks for sharing. Those pulls on old vending machines always reminded me of organ stops. I’d love to come across an art-o-mat. Brilliant idea.
Organ stops is a good analogy, or maybe a pinball pull. They still call Winston-Salem "the Camel City" for the old cigarette brand, which I'm not too fond of. I mean, I was too fond of the cigarettes for a while, but I don't like referring to the city by its most toxic export.
@@JamesRuchala The image of an actual camel wandering the streets of old Winston-Salem, ala the moose in Northern Exposure's Cicely, has a certain romantic appeal. I'll choose to interpret it thusly.
Beautiful Japanese art, James. I don't reach much Manga (which is endless), but in the 80's Lone Wolf and Cub was translated into English. I bought the comic at the time. Beautiful detail, tragic stories. highly recommend it.
The great 19th Century Japanes artist Hokusai produced a series of "manga" which were basically sketch-books that showed how to draw various elements of pictures--trees, water, activities... waves, maybe.
Cool idea. Art out of a cigarette vending machine. Best wishes.

Delightful Japanese print and nice tie-in with last week's poem. The Art-o-mat sounds fantastic, thanks for showing us the leaf. All good!

I like it. Probably as forgotten a reference as cigarette machines.

Very nice art. But now you make me want to get a better look at those Library of America editions, and all those Penguin spines.
Maybe I'll need to do a tour of my LOA volumes. If I showed all of my Penguins, we'd be here a while...
There are also some similar art vending machines in Washington, DC.
😺✌️
Cool--are they from cigarette machines? Thanks for watching.

Yup, although there may be other vending machine types that I haven’t seen. Been a few years since I was in the area.
