Does not matter how positive this video is or the legit truth about it, those die hard manual guys will always talk smack or trash about an automatic. The ONLY way i was able to find a mint un molested Supra was in an automatic and i did find it. I love my automatic and i would never do a manual swap.
@Glasspack40 there is one in Tampa Fla for $70k but the interior was all "riced" out with orange peel stickers all over the dash, gear shifter area and door panels.. looked real hideous but it only had 25k miles ...
Hoping that said jdm fanboys keep the value down for NA Autos the next couple years. I'm debating on buying one but i got no garage and live in the hood. Glad someone can appreciate autos
For what it's worth, my first MKIV Supra in 1997 was a 6spd. Sold it for an auto TT in 1998 and another auto TT in 1999 and still own the last one, a 1996. The current 6spd Supra fascination is only within the last few years and mainly with people who have never and will never own a Supra. The V160 6spd is great, but not my preference. I want the car to go fast with quick perfect shifts. If I road raced, I'd still own an a 6spd, but I don't (nor do many others). The A340E auto when built properly can hold decent power, no different than having to upgrade the clutch in the 6spd. As a point of reference -- with stock turbos I ran a best of 10.98@125mph back at TX2K10 in 2010 spinning through the 60'. Just "BPU". That said, I took 2nd place in the Stock Turbo Class to another auto Supra who ran even quicker. She had better tires and skill. :) Stock turbo 6spds were in the 12s with lower trap speeds.
I have a 98 Supra with the stock twins and the bolt-ons. FMI with full 3 inch ic piping, removed the mechanical fan and put in the IS300 elec fans, full 3.5 inch exhaust from the turbo flange back with no cats, i wanted to get a standalone and tune it for more power but titan motorsports said its not worth spending $1200 on an ecu to get 20 more hp ... is that true ??
@@ACommenterOnTH-cam a standalone with tune will generally cost you more than $1200 USD. The next bump for more power is considerably more money and will also require that standalone. 20hp is 20hp. 😀
v160 is glass at high hp. few know about that you can go BPU and with the stock auto transmission you can hit 10s like you did. what tires did you run with that :) as the saying goes what does a 500bhp 6speed supra have in common with a 1000bhp Supra? a 12 second time slip :D why? the V160 cannot put the power down from a dig, because it was built for road racing.
I have a 2016 Genesis Coupe 3.8 automatic that has 61,000 miles because I had to drive it to school everyday for over an hour a few years ago. Currently, I am too poor to get my car a turbo kit or tuned. I started learning more about cars in 2020. I only know how to paddle shift because I never learned how to manual shift. Hopefully I will be able to learn someday at some point. My goal is to reach around 450 to 500whp with built motor parts with my Genesis. However, when the miles get insanely high, I would like to try to 2JZ swap my car into a 600 to 700whp daily. My car looks cool and I would like to turn it into that car no one would expect to be fast. People try to race me frequently and give complements on it while I am driving. My car is still stock. So many people, mostly Americans, complain about cars being automatic. In my case, I never learned how to drive manual, so I don't care what they think. Most of the top cars today use paddle shifters and automatic, such as GTR, Porsche, and Lamborghini.
anyone that setsup their car for drag or street with high hp in a manual is just a ricer that thinks that manual=faster+more skill when REAL car enthusiests know that automatic is king since 1966 in drag and street performance.
Well, the only reason i think those manual fan boys want manual is to control each gear, you CAN still control each gear in the auto supra because it has MANUAL mode where you can manually shift from L(1st) to 2(2nd) to D(3rd) and over drive is 4th gear but you really only use that on the hwy for gas mileage. I love my manual 240sx but my Supra is auto and i would NEVER manual swap it. Yea but lots of people look down on you when you have an automatic. The last car show we went to, there were about 8 rhd supras and ALL were automatic. And 2 lhd were both manual.
literally dont listen to people who say the auto is bad, they will never own a supra cause they are to fixated on manuals and cant afford one. Also dont hat unless you have tried both
I drove both and the manual didnt feel or fit right. I got the automatic, its very responsive and WILL downshift when needed unlike some other auto's where you practically have to go wot for them to downshift.
I have a gte a340e aristo and a R154 mk3 supra. I enjoy the automatic a lot more. Wheel spin is wheel spin. It’s a lot more impressive when you roll into the boost and blow the tires off. ❤
i prefer auto for daily considering the traffic road stop lights and speed breakers manual is for the fun weekend drive only and everyday is not weekend
Reason 2 was the biggest decision maker for me when getting my mk3. I got a rust free Supra mk3 with the 1G-GTE engine (no tuner, kids or vroom vroomer people want this engine) and automatic (nobody wants it), same as the one used in the mk4, in one package straight from Japan. It has the manual mode button which people in a Supra mk3 community I'm in on facebook hadn't seen before. Cus the western mk3s don't have that apparently. No mods or anything done to it. I wouldn't be able to register the car on oldtimer basis over where I live unless stock. They refuse to register any car from outside USA/Canada and EU over here unless the car is stock and 30+ years old. That's the one way you have of getting anything else on the road. You're totally right about the Supra being a grand tourer, especially any Supra before the mk4. The big majority of people only see the Supra as a project car for power and speed. This was never Toyota's intention.
I think it's a preference I see nothing wrong with owning an auto -.- .. it's the same engine .. some people just prefer manual (just like me) because I imagine myself shifting gears just like im in a movie ^^
Who tuned your car and how much did he do it for and how much did you buy the car and how much did you upgrade the car for and how much horsepower does it have
I bought the car for 10.000 pounds back in 2017. My car has 360 hp verified on the dyno and it has some minor mods: -FMIC intercooler -full decat -HKS superdragger exhaust -HSD coilsprings -K&N air filter
HI. My speedo is not OEM, is blitz so that's why it goes to 320. As far as I know, Supras are limited to 250 for EU and US spec, and the jdm to 180. Mine is delimited and the maximum speed I ever went so far was around 220 km/h.
@@meisterraul you can remove the speed limiter for free and easy. Just remove the Traction Control (TRAC) fuse in the main fuse box or better yet unplug the TRAC ecu which is next to the main ecu located under the passenger footwell cover. Removing the fuse will create a blinking light next to the odometer, but removing the ecu doesn't. Either method will also stop the car from cutting boost during shifts on an auto by preventing the TRAC plate from closing in front of the throttle body, so disabling it makes the car noticeably quicker between shifts. It's the first mod I've always recommended in an auto TT Supra.
Mine is automatic, 98 with 30k miles. Just got it in september, UN MOLESTED stock condition.. !!! And when i meant stock, ALL OEM PARTS were still attached. Every nut and bolt and plastic panel still where it should be was there.
That's nice. I dont know the condition of your car but if by "oem parts" means parts from factory I have bad news for you: most of the vacuum lines, oil hoses, autobox hoses, etc are old and brittle. I did an overhaul to mine and found many issues because of old parts.
