Nice brownie (your first fish) on the dry fly Davie...a good start after just 6mins 😄and a lovely evening to be out on the water...your rod/line / leader/tippet seem very balanced to work so well, helped of course by your skillful, gentle casting style ...I didn't see a single bad cast/splash down during your entire video (unlike my self:)...very relaxing to watch and hear the chiff-chaff bird song
i love my danielson dry fly reel. i use it on my 10'6" nymph rod. the full cage keeps the thin mono rig from slipping off. they are notcommon in the usa and people i come across while fishing always ask me about it.
Good stuff. I'm having a terrible time of it just now. Two blanks in a row, damaged main line, dropped a power bank into the river and discovered a new leak in the waders. Nice to see somebody have a better day.
Great video! Question, I just saw a huge dry fly that looked amazing from one of Kelly Galloup's videos, he only called it a "hex pattern" but it must have been tied on a size 2-4 hook. I did some google and it looks a bit like Lucca's Hex Spinner, or Umpqua Hex spinner, with a full adams style wing. He shows it in one of his videos on Whiting Feathers series, the Coq De Leon video, video number 7, and 3:20 in that video, if you care to look. It's an amazing looking fly! If you would spin one of up and give some thoughts, i'd be so greatful! Thank you!
Hi Half Insane Outdoor Guy, I have attached a link to a website that has great photos and info of the Yellow May that I was holding in the video for you to see...I have filmed and tyed two or three versions of this fly on TH-cam so if you search for the Yellow May you will find them though I will link the latest version as it's a better quality video..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. Hi Davie I’m loving these fishing videos. My local river in my opinion was one of the best trout fishing rivers up until about 4 to 5 years ago. It has been on a steady decline since. The night rise which would have had the river like a pot of soup boiling is all but gone. I was down the other night and there was a good hatch coming off but no fish to be seen. One man will say it’s pollution the next will say it’s been the warm summers and the next will say it’s herons. Have you noticed any declines in your local rivers.
Hi That's me, Sorry to hear that your river is not doing too well at the moment though on our rivers one of main declines in the fly life is with the olives and march browns but it still ticks by..At the moment the rivers have good numbers of fish as you may see in the videos this year..I would love to get out a bit more which I intend doing as the summer goes along..In the video I wished I had fished a bit longer as I'm sure the fish would have came on..I hope things pick up on your water very soon and I'm glad you have been enjoying the new fishing videos.. All the very best Davie

Hi Andrew, When I joined Annbank which was a few years ago it cost me £200 to join then £20 every year but now it costs £500 and then £60 a year after that though it's hard to get a ticket as there's not many spaces come up as there's a limit on the membership unless you live in Annbank you can join straight away..The Doon has clubs that you can join like Ayr Angling Club which has water on the Ayr and Doon for £70 a season as well as a couple of lochs which is a great ticket and the easiest to join, if you contact the local tackle shop Gamesport they will be able to help you..I hope this is of some help to you.. Nice evening, Davie... nice fish and a nice couple of extra weeks you made with it, too... =] Was wondering about a bird call... cooing is what I'd call it. Is that a collared dove? Mike
Hi Mike, It could be either the Collared Dove or just a common Woodpigeon as they are very similar as far as I believe..It was a nice evening.. All the very best Davie
Hi Bobby, I've used them for the past two seasons and I am very happy with them to say the least..They give a free fly line with the rod which suits them perfectly in my view.. All the very best Davie
Hi Glenn Dotter, Doonside Mill is sometimes known as the Dutch Mill because it was built by men from Holland during the 16th century as this is I believe why the wall was built to help hold the water back for the mill and protect the bank from erosion..It is a lovely water and I'm very lucky to be able to fish it once a week..
