    for correct exhaust and controlled pressure the straw must work like a relief valve , similar to high pressure systems. im guessing but what a brilliant idea!!
    edited part: Hi and my bad for editing my comment..i have something to say about this its more like an educated guess but in principle this mimics a certain mechanical setup...and its AWESOME, not as awesome as you for teaching all this. i am grateful!!
    anyways...
    works as an adapter or step down, from hi to low (pressures or airflow)
    this must regulate the airflow im guessing it does just that.....
    high to low pressure and i guess it must directly increase the pitch as a result....reaching new frontier

      @healthyvoicetips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is an interesting take on this exercises. But you are right physics and air pressures are at play here.

    hi, i've been suffering from unilateral vocal cord paralysis for 13 months, I'm wondering if SOVT will heal my voice?

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SOVT may help but will not heal it. There are other vocal exercises that maybe more helpful. Speak to a voice therapist to guide you through the process.

    Thank you very much for your videos! They are amazing! In the next video can you please explain why that size in thickness of the straw? Does it have to be that size? If I feel more comfortable with a milk shake straw, could it also be used? Thanks again 😊💜

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely Nataly! It can be any size or width that you feel comfortable with. And as Oren said, it depends on what you want to achieve. If you want to strengthen the muscles, then go to a thinner straw. If you want to heal from a vocal injury, stay with a wide straw. Does this make sense? Let me know if you have more questions.

    • @FiveMinuteCall
      @FiveMinuteCall 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Straw phonation has been used as an intervention to help with MTD. If you are using these interventions as a rehabilitative aid, I would always recommend consulting an SLT.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, absolutely! Straw phonation is used for treating MTD.

      @@FiveMinuteCall you may have addressed this elsewhere, but how do you recommend cleaning the straw? I absolutely LOVE that you’ve hidden a cleaner inside! So two questions: A) Do you recommend taking out the cleaner before using the straw, and B) do you recommend anything aside from the tool included (as in allowing the straw to dry inside before stowing)? Thanks so much for your helpful tool, And for participating in this video...so interesting!

    • @FiveMinuteCall
      @FiveMinuteCall 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rhomo I'm so glad you're enjoying the tool! :)
      We have some recommended cleaning instructions that you can review in our supporting materials section of our website. Just login to your account and head to the "My Courses" section. Broadly, however, warm soapy water is great. If you want a deeper clean, we recommend using isopropyl alcohol to bathe the SOVT Straw, then rinse with water. You should definitely let the SOVT Straw dry before putting it back in the case. You should also take the cleaner out before using the SOVT Straw, as it will not function as intended otherwise.

    Dear Katarina, i enjoy your knowledge and teaching. Do you have a clinic for singers to come to? I had vocal surgery at Duke University Hospital and would love a consultation with you. Thank you.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sorry Tammy but I do not have a clinic. I am sure you can find a good voice professional in your area. Ask your doctor for recommendations for someone who works with singers.

    I have a question. I had nodules and my vocal folds changed shape. What i mean is, they don't close well.
    I was able to do a vocal fry (not screaming, just vocal fry) and now i can not at all.
    Will it help me? I'm really sad i lost my voice... i was able to hit high notes too..

    Hello Katarina i am a vocalist in a band and about 4 years ago i lost all high range in my voice pretty much over night. Been to 2 throat doctors and just get the usual as you get older your muscles get weaker and saggier . THey don't listen to me when i say it happened over night. I still sing but can tell even my lower ranges i am not as good at singing anymore. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you had videostroboscopic exam that would show the function of the vocal folds? I know that you've been to 2 doctors and they were not helpful but visiting a highly specialized voice centre is highly recommended. You can also try these straw exercises with sustained sounds - sustaining a sound at different pitches will strengthen the muscles responsible for bringing the vocal folds together, shortening them and lengthening them for various pitches.

    • @FiveMinuteCall

      These exercises will help you adduct the vocal folds, yes - and they will help you to allow the vocal folds to maintain their shaping and position.
