Nagaoka MP-200 - Group E cartridges' ($350-$380) REVIEWS and Shoot-Out Series

  • Dearest Friends, I can enjoy lots with the Grado Black at $70, Grado Green at $90, the Nagaoka MP-110 exceedingly at $125. I can enjoy lots with the Grado Red at $170, the Goldring 1006 at $250, and the Nagaoka MP-150 exceedingly at $250.
Performance vs price wise, the MP-150 demolishes the Grado Ref Plat 2 and the 2M Bronze, making the value proposition for the Platinum and Bronze very weak.
The MP-200 vs the MP-150😄...yes as what fellow friends who had gone ahead to buy the MP-200 and listen to it few months ago BEFORE i did...opined: "Well, I’ve been doing just that and I must say that now I cannot stop listening to the MP 200. It sneaks up on you. It has a natural, real sound that is very pleasing and addicting. It does everything the MP 150 does, but in a more refined manner. It doesn’t draw attention to itself, but it does get noticed. I can’t really explain it well. What I do know is that I keep going back for more. I’m looking forward to your review one day! Vinyl Blessings!" from Bryan 26th Apr 2018
Another said: "the MP-200 does what the MP-150 does, but with even more refinement."
    This MP-200 is extremely good.
Love you friends and buddies👋😄!! MoFi StudioDeck vs Rega Planar3 next🏁🎶🎶🎶

    *Background :-)
    Dearest Friends and Buddies,
I am Ian and I reside in sunny Singapore. I love our Vinyl Community and Vinyl Music. Vinyl analogue playback is utterly blissful, and I want for fellow friends and buddies to engage in vinyl music for many, many years in their life, each vinyl buddy through their school life, through the hustle and bustle of daily work, accompany them through precious hours at home with their family members or in their hostel with their friends. Vinyl music is blissful, free of time smear, phase shift, pre-ring and post-ring that plagues digital playback. Vinyl buddies and friends can all attest to that. It is not warm in the “bassy warm” sense, it is not soothing in the sense that “everything gets smoothed out”. It is because it is analogue, very detailed, calm, invigorating, enthralling, dynamic, refreshing. In a word, blissful. Utterly :-D
I want for all to get the very equipment that will get us there. These equipment, I firmly believe, are present, and existent, even at affordable price points!..and I started off in Dec 2015 hunting out for them, selling off my own Rega RP6 (which my wife and I loved) to fund the first batch of cartridges for review: the 5 cartridges in Group A ($70-$80), and the 7 cartridges in Group B ($90-$130). Subsequently I told myself to set aside $500-$1000 per month from my monthly salary to buy equipment to review. My own money. Quite a hefty sum monthly, significant to me, as I am a salaried man. This is my commitment. I believe in every field, there are people who have to make the sacrifice to pursue their love for the greater good, and to serve, the community of friends. I have also downsized my car in mid-2017 so as to commit these monies to fund these projects. I totally, rigorously, and kindly reject all forms of donations, be they from friends, from retailers, from manufacturers. This is a hobby, and my teachers and advisors in life have advised me that to bring balance to life, and to be wholesome, one will engage in a livelihood (daily job or business) that earns the monies, and one will also simultaneously engage in a hobby/service in life that is non-competitive, non-monetarily-remunerative. My wife totally understands what I want to do for the community and she so kindly supports my decision and efforts. Vinyl music is a lovely hobby I hold dearly. Friends and buddies are my ultimate responsibility and my love. I want the very best for them, and to provide totally honest reviews. Moles exist in hifi forums, moles also exist from benefactors who donate. I do not want to remotely encounter any moles masquerading as benefactors donating to my cause, only to find out sooner or later that such donations were/are from certain manufacturers or retailers. Everybody will do things differently. I want to maintain my status as a common-folk, aspire always to adopt the Shokunin spirit: of spending the utmost diligent care, through unhurried work, never caring for returns, in perfecting their work for the community. The personal satisfaction of getting to the very best equipment in each price class to help all my lovely buddies and friends is, the only thing, in store for me :-D We toast to the joy and bliss of vinyl analogue music. Vinyl Music deserves our love and attention. Our listening. Our care.
We toast to the lively spirit of:
“Everybody will be dancing and doing it right!"
    Let's go, buddies and friends!!!
    Warmest Regards,
    ~ ian :-D

I just received my mp-200h. The first thing to do was to set the overhang and alignment; because it isn't set correctly out of the box. My mp-110h was correct for my AT LP 120 USB table. That done, I held my breath as I dropped needle (kind of like dropping trou...) on Groundhogs, "Hogwash," LP. AMAZING! Then dropped needle on Tonto's Expanding Headband, "Zero Time." They are literally in the room with me. It's not just great sound it is PRESENT, clear, resounding, dominating, and perfect. I feel like I'm at a concert. This cartridge proves what I've been saying for years; that the right stereo cartridge can breathe life while digital can only imitate it. Frankly, I like the sound of digitally recorded music better on vinyl. I will test that with this cart, but I'm sure it will prove true. It's all about the power of real VIBRATION. This cartridge sounds better than any cart I've ever owned (and I've had quite a few over my lifetime). Thank you for reviewing this for me. You are correct in every note you made.

Bonjour from Ottawa, Ian! After buying the Schiit Mani last month based on your phono preamp review, I have also bought the Nagaoka MP-200 new on eBay to replace my Ortofon 2M Bronze which I got only last month as well. The Mani is a significant improvement over the built-in phono stage of my Emotiva XSP-1 stereo preamp. Even more so, the MP-200 is a very significant improvement over the Bronze! And I've only got about 10 hours of break-in so far... It was an obvious improvement out of the box! Quite impressive, to say the least. Your review of the Bronze vs. the MP-200 in your other video is VERY accurate; the quality of streaming over TH-cam only renders some of the very obvious differences between the two cartridges heard in person. I am literally floored by the improvement a simple and relatively inexpensive change in phono preamp and cartridge did in my system over the past 60 days. The Mani and the MP-200 together really gave me the $2,000 system upgrade equivalent you mentioned in this video! And with this I'm quite happy to have extracted at a relatively small cost that much more audiophile sound from my current system, which also relies on an Emotiva XPA-2 for amplification and a pair of Magnepan MMG for speakers. Now, I look forward to your upcoming review of the StudioDeck vs the Rega P3. Those two TTs are definitely on my upgrade radar. I am starting to wonder however if I can much improve the sound of my mint 30-year old Denon DP-6000 direct drive turntable with Micro-Seiki arm, now that it runs the MP-200 through the Mani... Or maybe I should now consider upgrading the speakers? I've been looking at moving up to the Magnepan 1.7 on the used market (I just love the sound of planars). Any thoughts on that path, dear Ian? Not bad when great reviews actually make you rethink your component upgrade strategy! Again, thank you for your honest, knowledgable work, Sir!

Greetings Ian!!! Thanks so much for your informative, timely reviews! I know it takes a lot of hard work putting together the sound clips and so on, but it sure is worth it to all of us vinyl lovers.
Last week I took delivery of a MP-200, and I got it installed last weekend. It is not even broken in yet, but I must say FANTASTIC sound!!! I'm 57 years old and have been listening to and buying vinyl for over 40 years now -- and I'm not sure I have heard better than this.
I see no need to buy any cartridge more expensive than this, when you can get so much quality here. I know it's not the best, but to my ears very, very good! A+
My previous cartridge was a Dynavector, and I always assumed that I would get another Dynavector. However, in the past few years the Dynavector cartridge prices have gone sky high $$$$!!! I assumed I would be spending a fistful of money. Then I saw your reviews and did other research for many months. I finally purchased the MP-200, and I run it into a (vintage 1995) conrad johnson PV10A preamp MM input -- another good reason for the MP-200, I don't have to mess with outboard phono preamp or head amp or step-up transformer.
It's been many, many years since I owned a MM/MI cartridge, and I must say that Nagaoka is truly one of the best kept secrets out there.
May you live long and prosper spreading your word of vinyl good cheer, and may Nagaoka live long and prosper!!! As long as they keep making replacement styli, I am all set....

Thank you so much for your time, writing to me.
It has been with a lot of personal sacrifices and hard work, to drive through this commitment all these past four years. I am very touched, to receive your kindness, friendship and support.
Thank you very, very much my friend.
      :-D
Yes, nagaoka is an unknown item to me before 2014 too! I remembered my Avid retailer, Mr Sammy, though NOT the retailer for nagaoka cartridges (there are no nagaoka distributors in Singapore), brandishing his Nagaoka MP-110 on his Avid Diva and Ingenium turntables back in 2014. I was surprised to see that yellow simple cart and with the words "nagaoka" across the front. Nagaoka what? But I thought, Sammy must have very, very good reasons for using this brand of carts. Hmm!!!!!! :-D
I kept in mind about this brand of carts, and when I started this commitment of getting to the very best of equipment to strengthen newbies and experienced vinyl-audiophiles engagement in this most wonderful hobby of ours :-D.
:-D the rest is history, as they say.
I am very pleased to have discovered Nagaoka as much as you. Totally thrilled and extremely grateful too, that extremely great sound DO exist and can exist at affordable and reasonable price points!!! YAY :-D !!!!!!!
Yes, a moving permalloy (and not MC) that does the trick and more, and without all the hassle, efforts and cost of an outboard phono preamp or head amp or step-up transformer as you can plug it direct to a very capable Conrad Johnson preamp with built-in phono :-D !!!!!!
I congratulate you Buddy Steve!!! Hi five :-D !!! And may we all live long and prosper in our common journey of vinyl music adoration and enjoyment!!!!
      Warmest Regards my friend,

Dear Ian, I had been on my vinyl journey for about six months before I found you channel. Vinyl is an immensely expensive hobby (not just for a student like me). But with your channel it doesn't have to be!
Your videos with extensive side-to-side-to-side comparisons have been invaluable in getting the heaviest bang for my buck.
I started with a basic setup: a cheap modern DUAL TT, AT95e cartridge, ONKYO A-9010 amp and Canton Karat 200 speakers. (This actually didn't sound bad at all.)
But right now I'm proud to have an SL1210MK2, Schiit Mani, Nagaoka MP-110. And my music listening has been elevated to a meditative goosebumpy eargasm marathon. THANK YOU! I was very lucky and didn't even have to spend that much. I stayed patient and bought most of my stuff used when the right opportunity came along.
As a graphic design student I'm currently working on my bachelor thesis. The topic? An illustrated guide to finding, buying and setting up your first hi-fi turntable system! Channels like yours are a big inspiration!

One more thing; Audacity loves my mp-200. When the roo hit a surface snap it is a 1 pixel sharp spot on the screen---easy to see. Also, they are so sharp that Audacity can isolate the pop easily and remove it. The mp-110 is good for that too, but not as good as the 200. Just FYI.

Ian - The difference was striking with this one. I was pretty impressed with the MP-110 but this added a whole new dimension to things. Not really a bad investment for a little more money. Great track selection to highlight the differences across the range of frequencies as always.

Hello Ian. Yet another satisfying and great review! Finally, the MP150 is beaten by its elder sibling... :) I find this is a good thing, actually. That just shows that Nagaoka product classification from MP110, MP150 to MP200 does genuinely show incremental refinement in musical reproduction, and not just simply changing the colour and number of the cartridges and sell it at a higher price! The differences are noticeable. Kudos to such honest and competent company.
That also means that it's time to save up for the next upgrade :)
For the bass comparison , I couldn't really make out the subtle differences (except for the better timing and rhythmic part), which could be due to TH-cam compression and the short demo clips. However, the rest of the comparison did show the strength of the 200 over the 150 in terms of "peeling off another layer to reveal the exquisiteness of musicality". That's exactly how I felt the the clips were played one after another. Addictive... yes. The differences are better felt than described.
    Enjoy the MP200! I am jealous :P

The added bass weight and extension make it easier to hear how the bass player and drummer interact and how they accent the beat patterns. For example when I heard the Clean Bandit samples, the MP-200 allowed the bass drum accents on beats 1 and 3 to stand out while the drummer played "four on the floor."

Thank you Ian! Again you are the voice of truth for those of us who are not able to do what you do. I'm so backwards on this latest review. Example; you are talking about the bass and I'm already hearing a big difference in the treble, especially with the cymbals. You are talking about midrange and I am clearly hearing the bass advantage with the 200. Your description of "more refinement" is the way I would say it.
I've heard one comparison of the MP-200 a few months ago. It really drew my attention and I found myself going back to that review again and again. Even though it's through a limited digital recording, I was impressed to the point of making a MP-200 my future goal. Many friends on a forum say they like the MP-150 better, and complain that the MP-200 is too bright or fatiguing with the boron cantilever. I disagreed but worried that they could be right. I doubted my ears. I thought the 200 was very detailed but not fatiguing. But as always, opinions vary and I"m glad that you reviewed it as I really trust your judgment. Thank you brother!
I'm looking forward to the next review with the PL-3.

Hi Ian, great review again! I finally bought a turntable! Yes, really! A 1965 Thorens TD124 with new plinth, Rega RB220 arm, Nagaoka MP-110 (yes, how could I not after your reviews ;) and Hanze Hifi spring upgrade (decoupling of motor to chassis) which was completely rebuilt from scratch. Only disadvantage: the completely rebuilt motor and bearings need to be run in, so the first week is one of unstable speeds, to slow, but when it's run in, it'll run for another 50 years ;) Otherwise I would have gone for a Technics SL-1200G (again, your videos). But they are sold in 2 stores in our country. 1 is way to far away, and the other one was SO unpleasant, I really couldn't justify buying there...

You rock buddy!!! I believe you must be very satisfied and your mind sweetened by the set-up before you now!!!!

Hi Ian, no worries. I think you're probably busy enough as it is :) Turns out the RB220 arm didn't work with the MP-110. It seems that the non-adjustable anti-skating of the RB220 puts to much on the MP-110 which pulls it out of it's track! So they're upgrading the arm to the Jelco SA750D with upgraded wiring. Wanted to really do that after a couple of years, but hey. It IS really really pretty! Oh, they gave me unlimited warranty on it, since they'll die before the TD124 dies ;)

Wonderful review, Ian. I replaced my Ortofon Bronze with Nagaoka 150, as per your review and suggestion. Totally blown away now that the 150 has settled in. It is everything you said it would be. I intend, as others have said in the comments, plan to upgrade to the purple 200 stylus on the green 150 body when the 150 is due for replacement. The colors might look like an Easter egg though :^) It is curious that Nagaoka gives such a short lifespan for stylus wear? I am using the Schiit Mani (again, based upon your positive review) with a Music Hall mmf -7.3 with great success. Keep up the fine work you do. You have the best HiFi reviews on TH-cam, hands down, Ian! Cheers from the States.

Thank you Michael :-D Great to see you again after a year!!! I hope this message finds you and your family in good health and energy!! I am laughing big time about the "Easter Egg" concoction!! Indeed : Light bakelite green top with a purple lower front :-D . I have been running my MP110 for about 1000-1500hours prior before a change...it has been used extensively to run in phonostages for my review ;-D, as for the MP150, about 800 hours now and sound quality 100% okay: extended, dynamic and detailed. Have fun with the Mani and 150!!!!!!!! 7.3 as well! Have a good morning Buddy as i start watching Sweden-Mexico-Germany-Korea at 10pm now here :-D

Dear Buddy Michael, thank you very much for your very kind message, about me having Patreon to help defray the costs. I have thought about it previously but decided not, coz I really want to be clear of any possible moles from manufacturers/retailers masquerading as donors, and later on them revealing they are from any manufacturer/retailer. Call me old-fashioned...:-D but eventually I made the tough decision to do it without any financial help. It will be very, very tough on me, but I tell myself that I will just have to work harder and make more sacrifices for the cause. Continuing, I can keep my channel clean inwardly and outwardly. 100% clean is very different from 99.9999% clean. I want 100% because I commit myself totally to my fellow vinyl friends and buddies in the community.

    My vinyl journey involves inheriting grandfathers goodmans Maxamp 30 ( worn out obsolete electronic parts) discarded 10 years ago;
    Acquiring one new:-
    Yaqin MS 300c valve amp from China via Hong Kong £400 on recommendation of elderly amp engineer who said he had never seen better quality;
I repaired grandfathers garrard AP70 turntable and bought a replacement goldring cart and new cheap project pre amp, connecting up to grandfathers Goodman Magnum K2 speakers- nice,- then 👀 upon listening to you Ian..
Replace goldring for MP 110.. Nicer.
Replace project for Schiit Mani.. Very nice.. Then replace 110 for 150.. nicer still then..
    Notice rumbling turntable..🥵
Replace turntable for secondhand Technics 1200 mk2 - beautiful 😘...
Now upon this video upon which I can clearly hear the improvement, even through my iphone... 🥵
Now ordered MP 200 .. simply because I know the value of your word; BTW Singapore is a fabulous country I visited for the first ( not last) time February- Regards

I have a Denon DL-160 on my Rega P3 and really want to upgrade. I've outgrown the cart w/upgrades to the TT. I'm really stuck between the Nagaoka MP-200 and the Goldring 1042. On your rec I bought an MP-110 for a previous TT and really loved it's sound. Your vid and previous rec is making me lean toward that 200.
I really want to thank you for taking the time and making these vid's. As well as spending your own money. This whole community GREATLY appreciates your effort. Especially since, where I live in Phoenix AZ, we don't have a shop that will let us hear carts before we buy. Keep it up my friend!!

I have heard from more than one person that the Goldrings tend to be delicate as far as build goes. on the 1012 I've heard of stylus tips breaking off. Also due to low clearance they won't track a warped record. Yeah I agree warped records are few and far between but just food for thought. I'm a proud owner of a MP-200 and the cart is fantastic!

i've been using an mp200 for about 2 years now, and after racking up almost 200hrs on it, have purchased the jnp-500 stylus (it fits, minus the locking screws) and it sounds wonderful - the mp200 is a bit 'smoother' but the mp500 contact line grabs more treble detail and i can say that i have no more IGD on any records - and the *snappy* character of the mp200 is retained. the original elliptical wasn't terrible in that regard, but i could hear it occasionally.

      True 356
The MP-110, MP-150, and MP-200 share the same cartridge body type, but not exactly the same internals. The MP-300 onwards are completely different from previously mentioned cartridges, and are not compatible.
I tried an MP-200 stylus in an MP-110 body just to see. Results were surprisingly good, but after careful prolonged listening the complete MP-200 cartridge was superior.

Sorry tweaker man. Did you mean you upgraded the cartridge to the MP-500 ... I know some call the whole cartridge a "stylus" sometimes ... I'm starting to think that's what you meant?

Hello chris, the nagaoka pm110 has the same cartridge body as the pm500, so all you do is upgrade the stylus, I've spoken to nagaoka & that's what they told me & I imported it direct from Japan, it cost me £180.00 + uk Duty of £45, much cheaper than buying it in the uk. One more thing, do get confused with the cartridge bodys being different colour, the body's are all the came, the stylus is jn-pm500, I got it from eBay, they are original ones.

Ian, my dearest friend, you so inspired me to give this Nagaoka cartridge a serious look. Received it on Friday from Japan. Listening the past 2 days to my records, some of them over 50 years old, brought happy tears to my eyes! You are spot on with this sound. The staging is right on. The records of the late 60's and early 70's were known to be of lesser fidelity than prior years. I will tell you that this cartridge brings out such clarity, bringing them to life on my old Dual 1218 turntable. The Alan Parson's "Gaudi" album has instruments that I hadn't heard before with my Empire 4000/D-I 4-channel cartridge with Shibata stylus!
Absolutely loving this cartridge on all genres of music so far! Thanks again from your friend in South Carolina, USA!

Dear Brother Juergen :-D !!! This MP-200 is just crazy. Really crazy. It gives me such quality, refinement and discovery at a price point that easily knocks many MC cartridges off, even if these MC carts are played through expensive phonostages. I do not believe in dogma... and dogmatic talk about "MC carts offer better refinement and detail than MM carts" are just not favourable in our common quest of LISTENING TO OUR MUSIC. Brother :-D !!!! Thank you so much for writing to me, and to us (as many fellow friends are reading too) with your kind update. May you have a lovely Saturday evening with your loved ones :-D

I have an MP-200 stylus on my MP-110 body. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this. You're getting the boron cantilever, but not the better internals for the 200's body. I'm sure it's not quite as good as an MP-200, but it's a notable upgrade over the 110, and I'd be interested in how you think it compares to the MP-150.

We have several baby rabbits this year in the yard and Zoey is obsessed and it is hilarious. But she is still taking time to snuggle with her family. Within a year or two I would like to upgrade my phono stage from the Mani to a full sized unit. I looked at the price of the Croft and was pleasantly surprised to see that it is within my budget. I got my TT from Needle Doctor and they also sell Croft. Will put the Croft on my short list.
By the way I plan on purchasing new loud speakers in 5 weeks. May be the most difficult component in hi fi to settle on. My Dad purchased a pair of Magnepan 3.7i about 2 weeks ago. He heard the 1.7i when I was auditioning and was blown away by their soundstage and excellent transparency. I thought they sounded amazing as well. They had a very nice Pro-ject TT to play my records on the Magnepans. Going to visit him in Tulsa soon to hear his 3.7i which will be lots of fun. I can't afford the 3.7i but I may get the 1.7i. Also found out that there is a Salk Sound customer in Nebraska with a new pair of Song 3A that said I can come and hear them. Going to check them out. Hope he has a turn table. Also I noticed that the Focal Electra 1028 BEs are on sale and dipped down to the top of my price range. Those may be a good option as well.

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Dear Buddy :-D great to see you again! Third time we are catching up!!!
Brother, it is definitely, even much better, but the issue is that saying it is worth it is still subjective: coz the MP500 is about $300+ more costly than the MP-200. Some people felt that the MP-200 is the sweet spot, and as great as things should go already :-D i have one new american friend, and he is not being snobbish, he admitted that he has $180,000 system at home now and even Lyra Etna a few years ago, but he has been happily playing with his MP-200 for the past one year, and never at all missed the Etna he sold off. I think that is how it is. I have several Thai friends who bought their MP-500 and reveled at how they enjoyed their MP-500 jaw-dropping improvement over their MP-200. Better, yes, but still, subjectively worth it as related to the price difference... "worth it" here is subjective because we are talking about $300+ difference :-D. Thank you very much for asking me my friend for my experience, and of course i can share with you experience from other friends i have made here.
      Warmest Regards,
      ~ ian.

Haha. Ian, I do live in Australia but I don't have a pet wombat. They are very cute animals but they don't make great pets. They dig huge holes everywhere and can be very mischievous. :-D I think a wombat would cause far too much destruction around a turntable :-D You made me laugh - thanks my friend. :-)

Another superb review, Ian. Do you have any experience or thoughts on the MP-500? I purchased the MP-150 based on your recommendation/video and I love it. I think I may want to upgrade “to another level.” I’m wondering if the jump from MP-150 to MP-500 is significantly better than the jump from MP-150 to MP-200 or if the extra cost doesn’t bear out in the performance. If the MP-500 is worth the money, I may want to just jump to that rather than make the incremental step to the MP-200.

Jeff K I say save and go for the 500 later. Id love to have one for the reason of it being a finer stylus profile which will be much more gentle and precise while dealing with the grooves. It will surely sound better but even if not its still worth it for that I feel.

only 90€ cheaper than the Ortofon 2m black. Have you been able to listen to the 2m black so far? or have any idea how it compare to the mp 200 ?

I was really looking for this! it still blew me away at some parts comparing to MP-150. The moment with triangles put me at awe. Didn't expect that triangle can sound so vivid. Thank you for the journey! :) I own a Nagaoka MP-110 (thanks to you review btw) and really like it. Altough I think it have some struggles with heavy kind of music (Rock, Trash, Metal, etc.), but with electronic, jazz and bass heavy music it sounds superb. While MP-200 is way over my budget, maybe in future I will have a chance to grab one :) Glad to see that Nagaoka can offer a great carts at different price ranges that can suit one's budget.

I have compared my mp-110h to the 200h and here's what I found: the 110 may be better for heavy metal, because the mid is more pronounced. Why is it pronounced? Because the 200 is deeper and higher, so the mids seem outclassed somehow. For Prog rock, jazz, fusion, chamber music, the 200 beats the 110 hands down. The 110 is still superb for that music, but the audio evidence is clearly there. So, I tried my guess that heavy metal might sound better with the 110, and surprise surprise; it was. I played the early version of the band Riot, "Fire Down Under." The 110 pushed the guitar forward a little more than the 200. The bass was all there, as was the high hats. When playing the same music with the 200 I felt like it wanted to "Class" the music up a bit by improving everything and pulling the guitar back just a triffle. I will definitively be keeping these carts available for different reasons. The Heavy Metal Movie soundtrack from the 80s sounds better on the 110. The examples go on. The 110 is a rock and roller's dream. The 200 will bring everything out into the open, but for heavy riffs that isn't always the best; drums and bass can overwhelm, crashing cymbals can be to perfect and sharp, and the middle stand forward, but not as much as with the 110. So, what about Pink Floyd? The 200. Van Halen? The 110. Emerson Lake and Palmer surprised me by sounding better with the 200. Their music is wonderfully bombastic so I thought it a great 110 fit. Wrong. Keyboards sound best with the 200. Lake's guitar needs the 200. Carl Palmer's work needs the 200. The same goes for Yes and King Crimson, and Gentle Giant (may I underscore GG?). Save the 110 for your metal. Keep it close by, for Saxon and Motorhead. Cheers.
