Loved learning more about him and his story throughout the game and hope to see him more in future titles. Yamai could potentially be a great reoccurring character(or party member) and just as loved as everyone else.

This is my favorite intro in the entire game, better than even the final bosses. It shows everything you need to know about Yamai: he's playful and considerate with his peers, and brutal with his enemies. This fight is where he stops being just a recorrent boss and becomes a character. Also, It shows how much Ichiban grew as a fighter. The way he avoided having his arm broken by placing the crowbar between his arm and forearm JUST before the title card stops is just amazing.
Yamai is by knockout the best character in Y8 and easily one of the best of the franchise, he is badass as hell, stylish, bloody and cold minded, I NEED a spin-off about him.

That's honestly really sweet. A series like this that shows fans old and new similar amounts of love in their first ventures is great. Whether or not ppl started with Kiryu or Ichiban, the series is great & I hope more enjoy it.
Something I noticed is that Yamai is almost like a reverse Majima. Spoilers: His psuedo-rivalry with Ichiban is very akin to Kiryu's relationship with Majima, but the temperaments are switched, with Ichiban being the over the top, loud one and Yamai being the grounded,, stoic one. Not to mention Yamai's origin revolves around killing his patriarch on the orders of a woman he loves, while Majima's was him protecting a woman he loved against the orders of his patriarch. Both up getting played and go insane, but they lose themselves in opposing manners, with Majima dialing it up to 11 and Yamai dialing it down to 1. Even their outfits mirror each other. Majima's Iconic fit has him wearing shirtless blazer with gloves, showing off a lot of skin, but Yamai bundles up to three layers with a turtleneck, buttoned up suit jacket, and his a second jacket he wears on his sholders; Weirdly, Yamai isn't wearing gloves, but instead we can clearly see his socks (which are pretty much just foot gloves. I hope they *actually* make him Ichi's Majima and have him as a bossfight in every single game.
How I adore this guy and his song knows how to frame his charismatic personality. Like many, I hope to see him in future games PS: now my two favorite parts of the song: (0:52) the moment I like to repeat the most (2:02) the guitar driff simply captivates me PS: Where was his crowbar kept?

His voice actor is quite a veteran in Japan, and the casting cost is just as expensive as Yamadera, who played Akiyama. Let's hope he'll be back. Perhaps if Yokoyama's photos or activities with Yamai's voice actor Takehito Koyasu are posted, chances are high that he will appear in a sequel.
Interesting fact: Yamai's voice actor - Takehito Koyasu, he voiced DIO from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Phantom Blood and Stardust Crusaders (JoJo no Kimyo na boken). To be honest, I didn't think I could hear him in the Yakuza a second time. Wryryryryryryryryyyyy! 🦹🗿
One thing my friends and I noticed is that Ichiban, despite being the new face of franchise, doesn't have his own theme. Yagami has an excuse of Judgment being a different fruit but Ichi is a bum since his debut. So, if Yamai is his Majima and Majima shares Receive You with Kiryu, what if Ichiban adapted Kooky's elements for his own theme?
I’m wondering what his tattoo is. He’s definitely got one since they only started being fazed out during Someya’s time (6). Tattoo’s usually are meant to represent either the character or their role in the story like Kuze’s Enma, Ryuji’s Golden Dragon or Saejima’s tiger.
IMO, a Namahage would fit Yamai the most. They are a type of Oni who admonish people for their bad behavior rather than kill and eat them, and in some legends are even guardians of remote villages.
Yamai was the best character for me in the game, I hated having rematches with him but I progressively warmed up to him and he became my favorite character at the end of the series.
It really would be a wasted opportunity if Yamai didn’t return as like a Majima type character. Like imagine if Yamai made his own party of semi antagonistic party members to fight ichiban’s party.

Interesting fact: Yamai's voice actor - Takehito Koyasu, he voiced DIO from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Phantom Blood and Stardust Crusaders (JoJo no Kimyo na boken). To be honest, I didn't think I could hear him in the Yakuza a second time.

The theme fits the character so well. Tells you about his part in the story too. The theme is too much of a good time for a "villain"
One thing my friends and I noticed is that Ichiban, despite being the new face of franchise, doesn't have his own theme. Yagami has an excuse of Judgment being a different fruit but Ichi is a bum since his debut. So, if Yamai is his Majima and Majima shares Receive You with Kiryu, what if Ichiban adapted Kooky's elements for his own theme?

ngl, I ditched Hero for Freelancer for a majority of Ichiban's chapters and it was the best decision I did.

I’m wondering what his tattoo is. He’s definitely got one since they only started being fazed out during Someya’s time (6). Tattoo’s usually are meant to represent either the character or their role in the story like Kuze’s Enma, Ryuji’s Golden Dragon or Saejima’s tiger.
IMO, a Namahage would fit Yamai the most.
They are a type of Oni who admonish people for their bad behavior rather than kill and eat them, and in some legends are even guardians of remote villages.

Yamai was the best character for me in the game, I hated having rematches with him but I progressively warmed up to him and he became my favorite character at the end of the series.
It really would be a wasted opportunity if Yamai didn’t return as like a Majima type character. Like imagine if Yamai made his own party of semi antagonistic party members to fight ichiban’s party.
