so glad you emphasised "light" , 'lighting is everything' 🤓📷 .. thanks for making so many great and easy to understand videos 🙏 so many ppl only have basic equipment & limited access to birds, i have adapted many of your techniques for backyard birds in flight with resounding success , thank you
Mike, this is one of the most underrated channels on TH-cam. I wish you 1000 x more subscriptions. - “The Algorithm” unfortunately prefers pseudo science channels, the content made of 99.99% stock footage, but 0.01% information only. Actual example: James Webb telescope, 99.99% click bait, millions of subscribers, hundreds of million views. What does the TH-cam management do? Cutting down benefits of channels like this one, offering true content, for the sake of click bait channels. The betrayed are creators like Mike and the companies paying loads of money for the views of their ads on the CB channels, no one watching those channels is seriously is interested in. If this reflects the true mental condition of mankind, we’re doomed and don’t deserve better.
Hi Mike, I like your videos very much, a lot of inspiration for me, we do have this little place in our local wood Bangsbo where we spend som time feeding the birds during winther, and having kind of close relation with them, the nuthatch and a couple more is coming to the hand and collect nuts, it is a kind fun and cool I think. Cheers Svend
Hi Nick, I never switch off the IS. Never have since it was first introduced. Using a tripod with a long lens hold the shutter button down with you right hand to keep the IS active. With your left hand turn the IS off and on. You should see the vibration in the viewfinder reduce when IS is on. Your right hand is causing the vibration with a long lens and the IS is reducing it. Not sure what question one means. I lock the vertical pan sometimes, never the horizontal.
Great work Mike good practical stuff ! It's a combination of both common sense and technical application ! Also an enormous amount of patience ! Love the Nuthatch and Wren 👍😍
As always Mike, very accomplished & interesting. Can you give any tips for starting up similar photograph in a back garden? We've plenty of birds but not the space you showed to defocus the background & set up a hide.
Using the eye detection. With a Sony A1 it is almost impossible not to be in focus. My Olympus MFT cameras are good enough for static shots like this, but not for flight.
Another masterclass.
Only one word required “Brilliant”

Yet another very useful and informative video, I continue to get a lot out of what you post here Mike. Thank you.
Every time I see the Sony A1, I feel that it's the only camera for wildlife photography anyone will ever need for the next 500 years.
👌👌👌
Always interesting, relevant and great teaching - Thank You
Thank you Mike, this is some awesome information and technique! I'm going to adapt this and see what I can do with it!
very nice tip ! I will try it :o)
Great video, Mike. BTW could you post the link where you bought that net?
Google "Clear view netting". Several places online sell it.
Super! Thanks so much.
Why do you not want pictures with the birds having a bit of seed in their bill?
It would be very unnatura to have commercial seed in the bill.
Excellent video. Definitely something I will try next time. Do you have a link to the netting you mention at 09.20?
Google "Clear view netting". Several places online sell it.
Great video mine, I have the Monfretto 502 Fluid head, question do you lock out the Benro and do you turn image stabilisation off. Thanks for sharing.

Great video and as usual helpful tips!! Thanks Mike 😎😎👍🏻👍🏻
As always Mike, very accomplished & interesting.
Can you give any tips for starting up similar photograph in a back garden? We've plenty of birds but not the space you showed to defocus the background & set up a hide.
My own garden is too small. You do need a bit of space.
Brilliant! Question - are you pre-focussed or relying on the eye detection AF?
Using the eye detection. With a Sony A1 it is almost impossible not to be in focus. My Olympus MFT cameras are good enough for static shots like this, but not for flight.
Hi Mike,
Thanks for sharing ;)
Any chance you can put a link to this net you are using in the hide?
Thanks
Google "Clear view netting". Several places online sell it.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video mike!
nice video, is this feeding place on private property?
Great tips, as always, and lovely images of my favourite birds!
