    I made my own alpha 1000 top. I think I got the fabric from timmermade. My design came out looking like a Knight from Nih, but it functioned really well. Airy for a little extra warmth and cozy with a wind jacket. Hood and roo pocket. I made pants too... a little less versatile because they are see thru

    Big sky dream sleeper doesn't get the hype it deserves. Great pillow.

      Yes! It's so light, you just have to make sure it doesn't blow away! 💨

      I have one as well. They're so inexpensive that I bought 2 extra. I think it's more comfortable than my sea to summit pillow.

    You mentioned you cold soak in a bag is there a specific one you use?

    • @nashvillepackandequipmentc3596
      @nashvillepackandequipmentc3596  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was using the small SmellyProof bags from Amazon. More durable than a ziplop, with a shaped bottom so they stand up.

    I have that same pillow and love it, it comes with a nice pillow case but to save weight you can wrap it with a puff.

    Congrats Grant. That’s a tight kit for the CDT. Well done!

    Hey guys at Nashville Packs, just out of curiosity. What torso size is the pack featured in this video?

  • @wio2189
    @wio2189 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What would be the size equivalent for cutaways sold today? I have similar gear so this would be helpful in choosing my size.

    What kind of hiking shorts, shirt, socks, and shoes did you wear for the CDT?

    • @Grant_NashvillePack
      @Grant_NashvillePack ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just shorts from Target, a couple random shirts, nylon dress socks, and Lone Peaks.

    Nice UL setup. For clothing, are you wearing Senchi without anything underneath?

    I’m looking at the EE Torrid. Would you recommend the hood or collar? I noticed yours has the hood, but wonder if it’s worth the ounce or so. The collar might be more versatile, ie. wear the jacket backwards while wearing your pack. Thanks

    • @Grant_NashvillePack
      @Grant_NashvillePack ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a hood guy, but totally get the arguments for collars. I just happen to like the warmth. If I carried my Torrid as my main insulation and was concerned about modularity/versatility, I might consider a collar.

    What bag do you use for cold soaking? Would be nice to get rid of the jar...

    • @Grant_NashvillePack
      @Grant_NashvillePack ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A "Smelly-Proof Bag" on Amazon. They have square bottoms so I can stand it up. The seal doesn't last forever, so I had a rotation of separate ziplocks that I'd use to double-bag it while letting it soak in my outside pocket.

    Great kit, lots of similarities to my '19 CDT hike. Re: sleeping pads, have you heard of the Klymit Inertia X Lite? It is hard to find, but really gets to the core of minimal yet comfortable torso pads, at a whopping 5 ounces. Rocked it the whole CDT and doing it again for the AT.
    Also, just got my Cutaway (bye bye palante...), doing a shakedown this weekend on the Virginia Triple Crown!

      @Grant_NashvillePack ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen that pad, but not sure it'd be enough for me. I'll probably stick with the torso Neoair...nice blend of comfort/minimalism for me.
      Hope you enjoy your Cutaway!

    What shelter are you going to replace the MLD Grace Duo with?

  • @philipbuckley759
    @philipbuckley759 ปีที่แล้ว

    it seems better to just start with the big three....or four, if you consider the weight on the foot is equal to 5 times, on the back...

  • @DanielOutdoors
    @DanielOutdoors ปีที่แล้ว

    That sat locator, on the back? Bit sketchy?

    • @Grant_NashvillePack
      @Grant_NashvillePack ปีที่แล้ว

      What's sketchy about that? It's secure but easily accessible, plus always has a good connection to the satellite.

      @@Grant_NashvillePack I lost the tent pegs once, with the Nashville pack, after getting my rain jacket but luckily i found them again

    • @Grant_NashvillePack
      @Grant_NashvillePack ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DanielOutdoors I'm carrying mine in a separate pocket, a testing-feature that we will probably be implementing in a future version of the pack. I agree that a PLB in our standard pocket may be a bit loose, but in the updated pocket, it's very secure.

    Hi

    • @connorwildes953
      @connorwildes953 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Grant, it looks like your outside pocket has a divider about halfway down. How do you get to the lower portion and what do you use it for?

    • @Grant_NashvillePack
      @Grant_NashvillePack ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@connorwildes953 You noticed my...testing feature. It's a pocket attached within the pocket, so I would just put small things in it and bigger things, like my jacket, further down. You can just reach behind it to get to the bottom section.

    I love how nobody bats an eye when you carry an ice ax for safety but loses their shit if someone carries a gun in griz country.

      Long distance hiking is predominantly done by liberals. They wouldn't shoot someone invading their own home, much less a grizzly trying to kill them.
