    My parents are from Jamaica and we eat similar foods just like these🇯🇲. Sweet plantains, coconut water, and roasted breadfruit is my favorite😋😋

    My best memory of visiting my family in the Islands is my uncles preparing an umu. I swear pork cooked this way is the best in the world - and thats compared to Michelin restaurants I've visited around Europe.

    Yeah the best umu is the Samoan umu Malo Usos man I wish I was there I made a lot of umu when I was young so I know how yummy that food will be the best food ever I miss Samoa Soo much and especially the umu food ❤️❤️😋😋😍😍

    My favorite mea 'ai umu has always been fai 'ai pilikaki and palusami. So good!

    The only difference from the umu we do in the States is we use wet newspapers to cover so no heat/steam escape.

      you probably figured this out by now but we use green bananas (unripe ones you could say) if you were talking about before the fire or after the fire or whatever :p

    Growing up with my grandpa he was a really harsh man about doing a umu the right way a lot of Samoans start the umu by laying the woods down but my grandfather hated that method because the rocks won’t be heated enough so he prefers standing the fire woods up and build around it and the umu will be as aasa as hell he says 😂 I believed it cos I did it and it works and that’s how my dad does it too

      Torch Live funny you say that because in my family it's the opposite. My brothers and cousins lega fagagau i fafo do the umu pea fai mea le makou aiga and my cousins who were born and raised in Samoa just faasasa'o i luma e le iloa fai gi mea. My hamo born cousin was also shocked that I could vavalu kalo because she doesn't know how to. Don't sleep on us that were born outside of Samoa. It really depends on the person because a lot of Samoa born people I've met are the biggest fia palagi.

      I was taught a totally different way. I'm Samoan and I help my young brothers do the cooking.
