Tapales has no chance. He doesn't have the knockout power that will scare Inoue. It's the same mistake that Fulton made. So much for a slick "black American" fighter. Tapales is simply just delivering the belts as a late Christmas gift to Inoue 😂.
The ref cheated. That 4th round knock down was 11 seconds. It should've been a 4th round KO for Inoue. Tapales's knees touched the canvas at 14 seconds left into the 4th round. Start the countdown from there and he didn't beat the count. Ref cheated again. He was 2 seconds late when counting in round 10, but I'm glad Inoue got the KO. Tapales' knees touched the canvas at 2 minutes and 9 seconds left in the 10th round. Count from there and it's 12 seconds. Fuck all US referees. They're corrupted cheating assholes. They really don't want Inoue to win a quick fight and dragged the fight just like what they did when Tyson beat Douglas. Still, Inoue landed a huge right hand to the temple and Tapales had no idea where he was. Tapales couldn't even get up from that right hand. I can see that Inoue still has issues getting used to 122 pounds. He's not as fast as he was at 118, but he still has power. His stamina does need a lot of improvement. Again, shame on the ref. I knew that if the ref was from the U.S., this was going to be a rigged fight against Inoue. I'm also glad that Inoue did his best just like Marvin Hagler: Don't leave the decision up to the judges. I'll give credit where it's due. Tapales did land some good shots on Inoue. But Inoue proved two things: 1) He has a chin to take on anyone at 122 pounds 2) The shoulder roll is exposed even more. Sugar Ray Leonard exposed it, same with Mosley, Pacquiao, and now Inoue. I'm sure there are others, but these are the only ones that I've seen. I also remember Duran saying that it wasn't a hard style to beat. So from Duran's experience, he exposed it, too.
Thank you for your comments and sharp analysis. Tapales was tough and had good defense. He also had an okay left straight, a good body straight and right hook, although those were a single shot(straights to the body were pretty good, though). However, he fought quite defensively. He had his guard stiffened up and fought with back-weighted stance. It is difficult to have a good match when the opponent fights so defensively. Not to the extent that Butler did, but when your opponent is that defensive, you can't help but attack a little bit. It is no wonder this fight was somewhat stalemated and monotonous. But at the end of the day, Inoue's punches did some damage on top of his guard and finally penetrated through it. I'm concerned about some of the forcefulness, but it couldn't be helped because Tapales was that defensive and still Inoue fought keep trying to KO him. Still, I felt Inoue was better in his last match against Fulton. In my opinion, when Inoue is(looks) not in top shape, he looks not as fast as usual. Maybe motivation had something to do with that. Also, the fact that he's not fully fit in at 122 yet has something to do with it. At the post-fight press conference, Inoue said he would fight at 122 not only next year but also the year after next. I think It might be better to do so, too. He looks fit in at 122 now and maybe needs about a year or two before he has to naturally move up in weight. Then we won't see him being as pushy and forceful as he was this time, too. As for Inoue, I think speed is more important than power. When moving up in weight, it is of course important to increase power, but in Inoue's case, I think the most important thing is not to lose his speed. Of course, he will have to further improve his technique, and also have to consider tactics and strategies against opponents bigger than him. BTW, I wasn't sure about the part after "The shoulder roll is exposed even more", what do you mean? Inoue occasionally uses shoulder rolls technique in defense. Are you saying that Inoue's shoulder roll is not very good, or that the shoulder roll itself is not very good move, not very effective one?
@@bobboxin The way Tapales used the shoulder roll, he either bent down, leaned/stepped back, or moved to his right side. So Inoue saw three opportunities: 1) If Tapales bends down, Inoue will try to land a hook coming from the bottom, which landed. 2) If Tapales steps or leans back, Inoue will also step in with a right straight, which also landed multiple times, especially in round 9. 3) If Tapales moves to the right, Inoue will try to land a right hook. I think the the right hook hit the guard. If Inoue can land the left hook over the right shoulder with power or does a double/triple right hook and lands, or lands a hard straight right shot while Tapales is leaning back, then it's also game over. These are the flaws of the Philly shell/shoulder roll. It can be effective if used correctly, but every style has flaws. Even if someone is better at it, a better fighter can still land clean shots through the Philly shell and force the opponent to guard up high just like what Inoue did. Then comes the dominant hand to land through the guard and the fight can be over. I'll also give Tapales another credit for taking hard body shots from Inoue. But as time went on, those body shots took a toll and eventually, Tapales couldn't handle the power to the head. And yes, Inoue's speed is very important. If Inoue can regain that speed into this division, he will be back to his better form and perform much better. Because the ref cheated twice, I can clearly say that Inoue beat Tapales twice. No rematch is required.
@@zzzzzz6686 Thanks for your sharp analysis again. I totally agree with you. What many casual fans do not know is that the Philly shell & shoulder roll is not used from the beginning to the end of the match. Mayweather also went into high guard right after getting a right hand from Mosley. Mayweather subtly changed his defense at different phases of the fight. I consider James Toney to be a better user of the shoulder roll than Mayweather because I think he used the shoulder roll more often throughout the fight. Especially the way he used it when staying in the pocket was brilliant. He used the shoulder roll aggressively. a genius. He is the modern master of the shoulder roll. Thanks for your great comment.
