Going to try and do a few videos like this during the week, shorter videos looking at gear I use, camping/trip ideas etc. Let me know what you think and any ideas/videos you want me to do. I've got a videos coming/being filmed on camera gear I use, travelling with a child, tyre pressures, food prep/cooking & how to find places to go camping/4wding. First video from the Great Ocean Road series will still be coming this Sunday.
Good honest review. You don't pretend to know stuff and don't get swayed by sponsorship commitments. We all learn from experience and that's the best way. Look forward to other short vids
That was rather informative. I have just bought a new 2022 sr5 hilux and have a dual battery system, and will be fitting much the same fridge, so this has helped me a bit.......lol might I suggest during the ending of this video I notice some lovely panel work done passenger side, not sure when this was filmed so you may have already rectified, but getting wider rock sliders that stick out just past the tyres could help keeping panel damage to a minimum..
After researching the ass end out of everything it’s refreshing to watch a no BS review and simple explanation, above all mate I think you show people that you don’t need countless thousands of $$$$ to at least get set up and have a crack. Thanks mate.
Thanks Tyler. Just bought a D40 to get into camping and today was researching this very issue of the fridge in the tub, and what would happen through high water crossings. Very helpful and great realistic videos of tracks in my area. Keep up the good work!
Thanks again for a great vid. This one has been particularly useful as a dual battery setup and a fridge are the next two things I'm hoping to add to my rig!
With the DCDC charger, Redarc recommend keeping the charger within 1m of the battery to minimize voltage loss. If the cables are thick enough it’s probably ok. But ideally the charger and battery should be right next to each other to maximize charging performance.
I run the same fridge, been to the cape no problems with it at all. I did have it on a custom build shelf on the back seat of my car though, but good to see it can take the punishment of being left outside and drowned.
Mate really enjoy all your videos, keep up the good work, you say you're no expert but I think your channel is up there with the best of the sponsored ones. 👍
Nice to see more reviews on your gear Tyler. I admire your motivation, makes me plot to get out more. I reckon you've got the best 4x4 channel I watch. Excellent camera and edition skills, very artistic and no commercial BS. That's the best rap I've seen for the Waeco. Am about to buy a new fridge, so I'm definitely going to have a closer look. Hope you can keep it up. Thanks and cheers PP
Yeah good job. I'm running WAECO CF50 and had no problems but it is secured firmly in the vehicle. Century Deep Cycle 165 Ah battery keeps things cold. Very similar setups.
Hey Tyler, why are you not interested in a basic canopy for your vehicle? With the amount of travelling you do, i can assure you it would make life so easy for you. Maybe knock out a video on this topic if you feel others would benefit from your answer. And lastly, it's refreshing to find a chap who is't trying to sell us something. I like how you were not afraid to show your basic setup, in spite of all the other professional rigs out there, which can be a deterrent for some folk. Good for you
Hey mate, thanks for the feedback! Main reason is due to cost and my set-up works fine for what I do, a canopy set-up would be good but not really any need I guess, possibly in the future. A mate has offered to build one for me for free, I just need to pay for materials. So could end up working something out there!
@@TylerThompson90 have to looked at ute masters load lids, they can hold an additional 200kg on top, which is all weather proof, locks and can be central locking as well, and no need for a canopy.
Thanks for the review!! Great Video......I have just brought a 95L, i have a black series dominator camper trailer. Also there is not much on TH-cam how to turn the lids around on the waeco - That would a beneficial video. I struggled a little but would of been easier to see a video. Now i just have to do a checklist on what to setup in my camper/equipment/food/lights etc - If you haven't done one of those videos from empty camper to everything you need would be a video i would definetly watch! For beginners!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :) The only video I have like that is this one th-cam.com/video/l3vpu5_3r_I/w-d-xo.html I go through a lot of the things I carry in my car for off-roading/camping :)
Good simple, no hassle set up, well done, I am surprised no one has at least knocked the food of from inn your fridge...... I have a Evakool fridge all fibreglass made in Qld, have never had an issue with it ..... Keep Safe Mate
Excellent I’ve been using the kings fridge for 2 years it’s constantly on either in the cruiser or plugged in the PowerPoint keeping my beer cold in the garage at 1* it’s not a bad unit it have all the same good internals as the weaco I’m sure 👍🏼
Love your shows, Like others have said it’s nice to watch someone just out and about and not pushing any products. Keep up the great work. I live around port, where is the spot you were driving after this video? It looked like good fun.
I have 35ltr Waeco for a few years and it works good, I only run the old redarc isolator switch then when I get home top up the second battery with battery charger.
Thats a tough fridge. I have always had engel fridges but when i buy another i think it would be a waeco or similar, simply because you can set the temp where as engel you just have a dial. Although my engel is old and I bought it second hand. Thanks for sharing mate👍.
That's a pisser Tyler. You've given that fridge a fair hiding mate ;-) And it's still going. (my CF is 20 years old and still going) The wiring side is my game. You're right about the DC-DC, but if it works for you, great. I'd consider adding a Victron Analyser so you have a visual display of battery state at all times mate. Just let's you look after the $$$ battery so it will last longer
Standard: www.autoelec.com.au/victron-energy-battery-monitor-bmv700-battery-mana There is also another that will Bluetooth to your phone and give more detail
Seem you don't have any problems with winching what size cc battery are you running? If anyone on here can answer this question dose the bc dc 20A in vid work as a isolator and connect the 2 when winching ? Or recharge the starting battery after long draws from the aux battery. Tyler thank for doing all the videos they are awesome keep it going .
Cheers mate, thanks for watching! Im not actually sure what size the main battery is sorry. And not sure about the other question but someone might see this and be able to let you know, otherwise talk to a 4wd or battery shop I guess
Wha da fook is a ute, matey? M from the USA mate and we got coy utes, dimin utes, and Native American Utes but don't think we have what you're calling a ute. So wha da fook is a ute, mate?

Pro tip: you can watch series on kaldrostream. Been using them for watching loads of movies lately.
@Keenan Miles yup, been watching on Flixzone} for months myself :D

Thanks Tyler. That certainly answered my previous question about the fridge...I have had a CFX40 for 4 years now and had no issue at all.....
Awesome stuff mate, most people seem to have good things to say about them
My CFX 50 has been the best fridge ever as well, its been running 24/7 since 2014. Cheers Steve
Thats awesome mate!

Yeah okay sweet, cheers mate. I had heard that before, mine seems to go alright but maybe look into it

I live around port, where is the spot you were driving after this video? It looked like good fun.
Cheers mate, thanks for the feedback! That was out Cairncross state forest on the creek run, will be in an upcoming camping trip :)
I have 35ltr Waeco for a few years and it works good, I only run the old redarc isolator switch then when I get home top up the second battery with battery charger.
Sounds like a good set up mate! Would be good to have my dual battery set up to charge at home if ever need be
Nice one Tyler it's one tuff fridge alright. Simple duel battery set I like it ...😎
Thanks mate! Yep works for me

Although my engel is old and I bought it second hand. Thanks for sharing mate👍.
Cheers mate! Yeah I have heard the Engel's are good too, I'd be keen to give one a go
I've got the NP300 as well and I'm trying to run a cable into the tub. Was that a grommet that I saw in your ute tub for running the cabling through?
Thanks for the review.
Good & useful review mate!👍

Im getting new tyres soon for mine and want 265/75/r16 will these be fine you think without a lift?
Probably not, I have the same size tyre and mine only fitted once I had the lift
I have just got a new 2019 ST NP300 and fitted 265/75/16 on it no problems. Mines stock no lift.
What did you drive before the navara ?
This was my first proper 4wd. Before this I had an AWD IX35 Hyundai haha
Thanks for the vid.
It’s Occy strap, not hockey strap
Just sayin
👌
@kfrabbit good info for you mate
