A video/film essay analysing Joe's psyche (from a Jungian perspective) as well as his quest for meaning in 'you were never really here'.
Intro:
Joe is broken, he barely exists, he wanders through the cesspits of a civilisation in denial with itself, one propped up by corrupt rulers and police officers, and one that turns its back on the very people who need its help the most, the war vet, the victim of parental abuse, the beaten wife. Central to ‘you were never really here’ is the strive for meaning despite such a hostile landscape in order to justify one's existence in the face of inevitable suffering.
