Chasing Danny Hart's Strava Time - Top Chief - Fort William

    Bit of a different video for me on this one. Thought I would try doing a voice-over on a full timed run down the Top Chief trail in Fort William.
    My goal for the day was to simply improve upon my previous personal record of 8:56, but then I saw that Danny Hart's time wasn't unrealistically out of reach and that naturally became my new target.
    How did I get on? You'll need to watch the video to find out!

    Just to clarify, I don’t for a second think that I am faster or better than Danny Hart. Danny is at the top of his game, and one of the best riders in the world!
    I’m just trying to improve on my own performance using Danny’s time as a reference.
    Plus, I failed 😜

    My experience of Top Chief: I was on my second (ever) run of it, very last gondola of the day up, no one behind me - I got a flat tire just after the boardwalk and couldn't break the bead for the life of me (thankfully a member of staff did eventually come down and help out - legend), two minutes later I face planted. With my confidence shot I slowly and cautiously made my way down the rest of the trail.

    Thanks Andy for yet another inspiring video. I love the footage from the chest cam, was that using a gimble? It would be interesting to see the time difference between this run and one with your ebike.

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The chest cam was actually a 360 camera. I honestly think I can go faster on the Ebike, as I think I lose most of my time on the climbs.

    • @stevia13
      @stevia13 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew - off topic I know, but can I ask - you are wearing your Switchblade open face in almost all your VLOGs now. You used to ride a Tectal. Why do you prefer the Giro - is it still slightly heavier in open face guise? S

    • @dookie3453
      @dookie3453 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevia13 I think he puts the chin piece on so he can put the camera on it and get that smooth video. It’s probably heavier in open face than a normal helmet because you still have the sides that cover your ears

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ASAP Rocky is right, I still film from the chin. When I talk to the camera, I’m holding the chin piece in my hand.
      If I could wear the Tectal all the time, I absolutely would. The Giro is fantastic as well, although a bit heavier.

    Superb footage that. What settings do you have your Gopro on for the footage? You using a gorpro 8 or 9 as stabilisation is really good 👌🏻
    Also, when you upload to TH-cam, what settings do you use (i.e bit rate / codec) i can never get past 1080p quality 🤦🏼‍♂️

      Harder than the DH track, no. Its long though.

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d agree that this track is harder than the Dh track at any given speed. Ben Cathro thinks so too.
      The Dh track does get much tougher at higher speeds though, and then there’s the optional huge jumps at the end.

      I’d actually argue that it becomes harder at slower speeds in places, the wheels get caught up easier on the rocks and holes.

    I crashed on the section at 7:10 today.Writing this comment whilst having a few sore ribs. Getting the line right is so so difficult especially on a 27.5. I previously did it on a 29 and it was bit more forgiving on that rock slab - less spaces to get front wheel "caught!"

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Easy bit to get wrong, and big consequences when you do😬
      29’s make a very notable difference on this track too.
