- Guitar lesson on how to play Mrs Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel. Grandpa Hat gives a relaxed tutorial with chords and insights on playing Mrs Robinson, with a play thru of the complete song at the end.
This is the only guy on TH-cam who can actually play the song.
By far the best tutorial. Thank you for singing and playing the whole song at the end that helps me so much!
I'm 66 years old and I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar, this past christmas eve, I came within 8 hours of passing , and this has put a different perspective on life, I decided that while I am off on disability to go buy a guitar and learn, and 1 of the songs I want to learn to play once I am proficient enough, hopefully soon, is Mrs Robinson, reason, that is my wife's name and when ever that song comes on the radio she turns the volume up, and I think it would be really cool to one day without her knowing , while she is sitting in the living room , to sit down and start playing that song for her.
Thank you for this accurate interpretation. I finally understand it after hearing it for 50 years!
Granpa Hat, I must tell you that's the best version I heard of this great song. Thank's so much for your lesson and for sharing.
Take care😉😎
Loads of tutorials on TH-cam for this song, this is the best one by far, thanks very much
Thanks. That means alot
I appreciate anyone who takes the time to teach others
I wish this included the cool intro. Unfortunately, I found this once and can no longer find it. It’s lost in the the jungle of lessons that show how to play a vastly simplified version of the song
Totally agree with you.
Just in time for a rehearsal next week! Thanks, very nice job - it sounds very complete with all the little runs and riffs.
Best tutorial of this song... and as Grampa Hat says, just keep praticing that opening riff until you get it. Great to be able to keep checking back too. You have a great singing voice too...
Good job. I like your version. Thanks for it and take care !
From one grandpa to another: you're awesome Grandpa Hat! Nice lesson!
Very nice. Thank you Grandpa Hat!
Great lesson, keep ‘em coming😊👍🎼
I think the best tutorial from this song sofar! Thanks!
Great lesson! I'm playing for my 50th year and I decided to revisit some of the older songs I used to play. I found out you and I play this the same way. I'm going to go explore your other songs! Thanks!😊
hello from FRANCE I like very much your lesso THANKS you re great
Excellent lesson.
Absolutely awesome! Will take me some time to learn this. Thanks Grandpa. Hope you are well.
Thanks for this great lesson... great job!!!
Good lesson! Thanks!
Good work, and great teaching Grandpa Hat!
Fantastic! One of the Best lessons on this song. I do think that after the E and before going to “and here’s to you…” that it is a D7 rather than a D and that sends great to my ear, but both work.
Thanks Steve. You are right. I use both. I mix it up. Sometimes I also play the D and bounce on a D7 just before the G.
@@grandpahat7249 I’ll try that!
Grandpa Hat
Thanks for the great instruction. You have great tutorials on your channel. Please post some more!!!!
I've tried numerous instructors for this classic and Grandpa Hat has it down perfectly - the essential licks also incorporated into the lesson which is a must for this song - many others do not incorporate these little riffs into their lessons - great job - Kudos
I fully agree
Excellent lesson Grandpa Hat! You really turned an unreachable legend into a ... possibility for me. I fell in love with Simon & Garfunkel when I was 17 and I am 55 ... and starting the guitar.
Thank you.
And I hope you will make more videos in a near future!
P.S. I am watching from Brussels, Belgium.
Love your fedora most of all. I, too, am a fedora owner. Oh, yes, your instruction is, also, awesome. Thanks so much for your time and skill. God bless you!
I couldn't figure out the riff until your video. So easy. Thanks!
Great lesson! Good voice too!
Bravo!!!
Шикарно исполнил ,молодец!
Excellent! Thank you very much!
Learnt this from another clip. Yours has made it clear. Particularly like your augmentation around the lick. Much appreciated.
Merci Mr pour ce cours très instructif....sincèrement ...c'est je crois le meilleur, ....et je ne parle pas l'anglais , mais votre démonstration est le top👍 pour moi....hello d'un papy de France.
So far the best version outside of art himself.
Paul Simon has always been a hero to me
Just watched your video, thanks of teaching how to work out simply intro riff, helpful for my performance next week.

What kind of guitar are you playing. It sounds great.......
Willie the guitar is a replica of a 1939 Martin 00. My brother made it. I had him use mahogany back and sides and Adirondack top. He put inlays like a higher end Martin had. I love this guitar. Thanks.
@@grandpahat7249
So.....your brother is not selling such beautifull guitars....?
Sorry. No he has made 4. My 00, he kept a 000, and he also made 2 replica 1936 martin D 28 (modified: truss rod) he has one and I have the other. I play it on another video.
Are you using same rythm pattern thru out the song ? DDDUDU?
I just keep the pick hand going down up down, but don't always hit the strings and sometimes mute the strings with my palm while struming. Pretty much whatever it needs to sound good while not covering up the vocals too much. On key parts on the guitar or vocals I give it room to be heard. It's hard to explain exactly. I always try to remember the things that I find work in each song. I also hybrid pick. I use a pick but also my middle and ring finger to rake or emphasize notes to fill, or to do rolls on some songs. I always say play it until you find it and remember it. Play it hundreds of times and you will be able to feel it and not fret the details. It just comes out
I will never be able to play like Paul Simon. I try to bring out key parts, and try to fit how I play to the song without butchering it.
Is there any other tutorials??? Nothing for 4 years??? Grandpa???
I will make more videos. I had a heart attack in 2019 and didn’t make more then. Also there was a couple of copyright claims and had to delete a couple. Mrs Robinson has a claim but I am still not at a level to monetize it anyway. It kind of bummed me out for a while. I will get off of my 68 year old butt and make more videos. Thanks for the motivation.
