    That's so neat! I'm learning about different practices for my education and I love the joy that these women have. I don't know if I'd be able to commit to a whole lifetime in monastery, but it definitely seems like it would be so restorative, even if just for a week.

      It would take at least a week for your body to get used to the new timetable and for your mind to get used to the new routine.

      Everything is significant. There is no one and no thing without significance. Life is like language: many words, all needed, all with a meaning. Many words, not just one.

    Going on retreats in the monastery is something i try to do. Its lovely joining them for prayers as early as 2:45am (the monastery i visit, here in nigeria).
    Once my retreat is over after three days, i am always refreshed both physically and spiritually. It keeps one away from the hustle and bustle of urban life, and you a literally enveloped in the closed palms of God. The air is still, the trees are calm, and life seems to just stop, removing all worries of that crazy traffic, noisy nebour, dogs barking etc. I may retire as a monk...when all my kids are grown and independent

    I think it's terrific that they get up at 3:30 in the morning. You have more energy in the morning. And in bed at eight is a good idea. I surewish that their hair would not show. It's so much more beautiful when all the hair is covered. And it is one less thing to worry about. And having religious names is so much better than your Baptism name because they are not always appropriate.

    "We were asked to interpret our monastic life in terms of the 21st century." That is most unfortunate. It is a recipe for disaster and self-destruction for a religious community of contemplatives, since the 21st century has no interest in prayer or contemplative union with the Lord. It is best to "interpret" the monastic calling according to its own principles and the changeless principles of the holy Gospel.

    • @lizziesplaylists8500
      @lizziesplaylists8500 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Family's Got Talent Lots of things I've read in my spiritual reading and witnessed personally show that interest in contemplative prayer has been very much on the increase since about the 1960s. It's something that many Christians of different denominations and many people outside the church are finding themselves wanting to learn more about and go deeper in - as if this is something the Holy Spirit is doing in our time.

    • @earllopez3643
      @earllopez3643 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Could not have interpreted it better.

    • @lmtt123
      @lmtt123 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The words freedom and interpretation seem synonymous with doing your own thing which was a hallmark of the 60's. It's not tied in with obedience which was fundamenral to the Cistercians. Nowadays it's a dying order with few vocations and a modernist, secular outlook. The experiments didn't work.

      @ksol1460tv ปีที่แล้ว

      The 21st century is not a single culture, attitude or set of interests. The 21st century is what we each of us make it. These contemplative orders are about turning inward and be ye not conformed to the world, by the Gospel and the Holy Rule of their founder. If they are doing those things in the 21st century, then they are part of it.

    • @liviagracie1443
      @liviagracie1443 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very common misconception! Monastery can be used to describe housing to any form of monastic life. Cloistered nuns still live in a monastery, the word convent is typically for religious sisters who have an active apostolate and are not cloistered

      @@Andy-sx5pm Thanks for reply! Ok, I don't negate such behavior and that what Jesus did. Being a nun is surely a good picture of modesty and so on, but this kind of service is molded by religion, and tradition of men, it requires obedience, doing many rituals that are not found in the Bible. I give the Pope's my sympathies. They have no idea. I am concerned enough to give warning. I'm 73 myself and a theologian historian.
    Ancient Rome had vestal virgins who kept the flame of Rome alive forever. It was believed that if they lost their virginity or the flame went unattended and went out, Rome would be conquered and die. They would be killed if either happened.
    Along comes a new religion into the Republic with a Virgin. Persecutions stopped a lot because there was a forever Virgin connected to a God involved. Suddenly, a Mother Mary craze hit the early church that did not affect the other regions at that ancient time that Christianity was born. Over time it became Mother Mary-anity and now it's nothing like it was preached in Rome by Peter. Mary began to replace Jesus as the ultimate moral law pronouncer holiness giver.
    There is a way that seems right onto a man.
    The Church has elevated Mary as the true Oracle of Almighty God, I N S T E A D, of Jesus. Here are some examples:
    Church; - Mother Mary is God's mother therefore she speaks for Him. So, since she is a mother, she can correct her son. Mary says, (in your imagination) that God and his angels REJOICE IN HEAVEN WHEN A BABY IS BORN AND DELIVERED FROM AN ABORTION, AND GOD SAYS HE WANTS IT BORN AND IS HAPPY TO SEE IT ARRIVE ON EARTH.
    JESUS; - SAYS: REJOICE N O T When a soul enters the world but rather woe and mourn, for it's time of test is upon it and if it fails it will burn in hell forever. And mourn N O T when a soul dies, but rather REJOICE, because it's time of being tested has gone and it will no longer be in danger of eternal damnation.
    Now, which is right???? God says NO abortions because it makes Him unhappy, or, God says abort the soul before Satan has a chance to snatch it away from Me????
    WARNING!!!!!!!! YOU'RE BEING TESTED HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you don't get this right at the Pearly Gates you'll burn in hell forever.
    Who is right??????? If God is an immutable ever unchanging GOD, then why would he change Jesus' words that life and B I R T H MAKES HIM HAPPY AND REJOICEFUL??????
    Somebody has to right. All I am saying is what Jesus told his disciples to teach. When did He tell Mother Mary something different?????
    Now, who is right?? Mary or Jesus????
    Your eternity depends on getting this question right? Secret hint; "Is Mary God in Heaven?”
