Like that’s some REAL war scars. To come back from literal death with the scars and no reformation to fix it. Besides the corruption.. she’s one enduring soul.
In the original show, she akways called him "Rose Quartz". In this episode, for a brief time, she finally called him by his actual name... only, at the end, to start calling him "Pink Diamond".
@@artistanthony1007That’s literally what they’re saying. It’s also wrong. When she called him Steven, she saw him as an equal. After he becomes her Diamond, he stops being that and becomes her superior, with all the blind assumptions that come along with it.
There's been mentions of shattering all throughout the series, mostly by the Diamonds, but the one time we actually see it happen on screen, it's Steven of all people who does it, the most anti-shattering one of them all
The reason why he is getting bigger is because he fells stronger, we saw on season 1 that his emotions are tied to his age. He fells stronger, so he fells older, so he is older.
This episode was a big turning point in SU: Future, from here, most audiences had no idea of where it would go after this. Most would say, "Steven could/would never shatter someone!", but this episode broke all ground they could possibly stand on.
Remember how big of a deal it was for Rose to supposedly have shattered pink diamond, the evil tyrant? And even that wasn't true. As horrible as PD was, she never caught a body. Steven did.
Not quite true actually. Gems were shattered in the war and we know rose was at the front lines. Her signature sword may have had the ability to never shatter a gem, but that was forged well before the war itself as a means to subdue others. But I imagine she got her hands dirty like the rest of the crystal gems once the war started
@@LoosieGoosie42Nah, they had no weapons for shattering. Bismuth made and offered the breaking point to shatter the diamonds and everyone else who was against the Crystal Gems and Rose refused. Her sword only poofed others and she couldn‘t see someone getting killed, and the others of the rebellion also had „basic“ weapons. All those shattered gems were actually Crystal Gems, someone mentioned it before, I think Sapphire did.
The Diamonds and gems have shattered thousands upon thousands of gems personally. Pink Diamond and the Crystal gems have never shattered a one. Regardless of shattering was done in the war to avenge Pink Diamond, she herself never shattered anyone. On the contrary, she healed them.
yes, this. saying "outburst" or "tantrum" to a person with full-on severe ptsd is kinda disrespectful. he nas mental breakdowns and doesn't know how to control this full range of emotions, especially anger issues
Honestly this has been coming for a while. When Steven was a kid, during his formative years, what examples was he set for how to deal with difficult emotions? Keeping secrets and closing off like Pearl, running away and lashing out with violence like amethyst, bottling everything up until you fall apart like Garnet, minimizing and brushing things off like Greg? Sure everyone (except Greg) managed to overcome these poor coping mechanisms, but that doesn't change the fact that those are the examples they set when Steven was most primed to take them to heart. And up until now he's been rewarded for putting his feelings aside to help them figure theirs out. These are a lot of chickens coming home to roost
That‘s totally true. They may have loved him, especially Garnet and obviously Greg, and cared for him but they were such bad parent figures. Making him feel like it‘s all his fault. Especially when Pearl ran away after realizing Rose kept Lion secret and not even helping him after he FELL, then when Garnet unfused after the Sardonyx incident and even Amethyst when she said „Now I‘m weakest/worst Crystal Gem“. Greg didn’t take anything serious and was only scared about all those gem battles. The ONLY one who actually CARED for HIM was Connie. She listened, she helped him, she cheered him up always saying „you‘re the best“, she loved him truely and I guess that was the main reason why Steven fell apart after she said „not now“, he thought it‘s all over.
Steven's powers have always been focused around defense and healing, reflecting his loving and gentle nature. I love how we get to see Steven get physically strong and focus on attacking, and it's treated as a BAD THING. Not that there's anything wrong with being strong or good at fighting, but this is just not who Steven is. He literally becomes unrecognizable. (Also we can see him eating fish during the training montage, where previously in Future he said he was a vegetarian. Another nice little detail showing how he's not acting like himself.) And Jasper doesn't exactly have the most healthy outlook on things, so of course her advice only ends up making him even worse.
i think this episode mirrors the one with lapis quite a bit. that restraint is strength and also how more homeworld oriented gems bow to power that exceeds their own, to people theyre afraid of. its interesting that the lessons in the less stressful episodes are being ignored by steven because he just wants any solution that isnt relying on or talking to his family.
Training with Jasper may have helped Steven gain a better understanding of his Pink State and improve his versatility with it, but it didn't solve the problem. The problem isn't Steven's powers, it's his mental state. Since his powers are directly tied to his emotions, they're only responding this way because of his PTSD. As long as Steven refuses to let others in to help him, things are only going to get worse.
Steven went dark in this episode. He even had diamonds in his eyes. I can't believe Steven shattered Jasper. That still surprised me. The next episode will be even more surprising 💎💎💎😱😱😱
All these people feeling sorry for Steven and showing him empathy when he’s living the Pink Diamond experience and even shattered a gem, while continuing to hate on Rose/Diamond is ironic.
Welp...Steven crossed a line, sure he fixed it, but he's gonna have to live with that trauma, just seems to keep pileling on for him. Loved this reaction, can't with for next time.
Back in 2020 they were going to have Steven Universe the Movie play in theaters for a day. After the film, this episode was going to play but it wasn’t advertised, it was going to be a surprise (Future was currently airing on TV and this episode was the next one). Unfortunately, this never happened because of the pandemic the theaters closed that very week. I can’t imagine what that experience would have been with along with other fans.
The big clear reason why that power isnt controllable is he's half human & not stable or at true peace, Devil May Cry and other franchises show this because you need alot more than humanity or being human to handle a power like that.
nah, jasper being revived shows that steven has no consequences to his actions and it adds more to his trauma. he realises he's becoming more like a diamond: he can do whatever he wants and face zero consequences, that was what he was afraid of
@@cherie2861 I get that, I don’t mean for her to be dead forever, just for some episodes. It could be a great shock factor for the audience not knowing if she would come back or not, and adding to Steven’s trauma knowing that he killed a person and there’s no fixing on that, you feel me?
0:03 oop 2:35 and Frozen - ...oh yeah, Elsa was originally going to become an antagonist 7:30 heh. Yeah maybe (I then had to go to work for 3 more hours knowing what youre about to see (She called him Steven) yeah. Poofed. that would be way too far. :)
I agree it would’ve been far more effective and impactful because it pushes Steven past a point he can’t return from. But that’s also why the reversed the shattering. If Steven couldn’t come back from it, there’d be no hope of him turning his life around. And also: kids cartoon. Even if it has more mature themes.
Four years on, I'm still not a huge fan of them undoing the impact of shattering as easily as they did. I get what they were going for, but it retroactively removes all of the stakes from the past five seasons
I mean they only had the means to bring someone back from being shattered after the show was over, if anyone was shattered before they made up with the diamonds they would've stayed shattered.
You're forgetting that it didnt work until Steven's tears came into the picture, we even know how powerful the Diamonds are with restoring and there was enough time to keep the "data" from going away for good, we also were never told the full extent of the healing liquid stuff mixture, just that it or through showcase heals Corruption so I dont think stakes are gone, it makes sense with the type of substance used which is obviously absurdly rare.
@@artistanthony1007 I get what you’re saying, but shattering ≠ corruption. Throughout the show, corruption was always implied to be curable at some point, whereas shattering was not. Healing shattering the exact same way as corruption doesn’t work IMO
I love that Jasper's reformed look reflects the fact she was shattered. the chopped off horn, the cut stripe on her face and the ripped leggings
Like that’s some REAL war scars. To come back from literal death with the scars and no reformation to fix it. Besides the corruption.. she’s one enduring soul.
The diamonds in his eyes when he shatters her instead of the stars he got as a kid...
That shows how much he‘s changed in those 3/4 years
In the original show, she akways called him "Rose Quartz". In this episode, for a brief time, she finally called him by his actual name... only, at the end, to start calling him "Pink Diamond".
It's actually My Diamond, she's respecting him to see him as his own being, she even said Steven earlier in the episode.

You could‘ve really asumed he was maybe in his 20s, he was as big as Stevonnie and they were 25 after fusing for the first time.

Steven doesn’t have outbursts, he has full on mental breakdowns due to the accumulative stress and trauma he has, there’s key differences between both

the fact that rose/pink never shattered a gem , but steven did.
Imagine doing something worse after his mom did so many other cruel things, including physical abuse on Volleyball.
