Good to see the lift lines not crazy. Don’t feel bad that’s a steep trail!

Lower k 27 is the steepest slope at Hunter overall.
40 plus years ago when I was a kid skiing Hunter the Cliff trail would turn hard right at the bottom and go down and intersect with Hell gate. That old part of the cliff is now replaced with a fence and a lot of large rocks.

Right where the fence ends? There's actually a narrow trail from The Cliff to Hellgate. I keep forgetting about it.

The Cliff > Bleeker St > Eisenhower Drive
Not real cool with being dumped off into the Belt Parkway crowds coming off Racer's Edge. Can be downright scary at speed.

Thanks for this suggestion I will use these trails when I go to hunter tomorrow

Cool. Miss skiing Racers Edge. It always had great bumps years ago. Do they keep it groomed now?

Bro, Racer's Edge is not the steepest trail at Hunter. Lower K27 and Annapurna are much more difficult. I would consider Racer's Edge to be a nice, moderate challenge. Unfortunately, the Cliff has always been bumped up when I have skied at Hunter.

Yeah neither of those were open on that day, hopefully I can go back and ski them. Might be next season now though, weather is warming up

i heard that first tracks are best for this run because it gets icy after a while
never tried it tho im not good enough for a double black
edit: 3 weeks ago i did it as my first double black and now its my favorite run from the top :>

    • @skiwithgenerationsnow
      @skiwithgenerationsnow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah I think they weren’t open, a lot of the stuff on Hunter West isn’t open right now, especially the black trails

Annapurna and lower K 27 are the steepest but west way and Claire’s way are close

Felt like Westway was steeper than Annapurna when I went last week. Annapurna was just narrow.

Hunter Mtn sucks. The entire lifts are old and slow and bumpy. the Big Sky Resort in Montana, where there just happened be a piece of high-tech equipment making its debut: The Ramcharger 8, billed as the "most modern chairlift that's ever been built," went into service a few days before my arrival. Naturally, I decided to get some pictures and video of it in action. What's special about the Ramcharger 8 is that it's an eight-seat lift -- that's eight seats, straight across. There are other eight-seat ski lifts in Europe, but this is the first eight-seater in North America and also the first Dopplemayr D-line Direct Drive chairlift in the world. That new gearless drive system makes the lift more energy efficient, quieter and significantly easier to maintain. The ride to the top only takes about 5 minutes -- the lift is around 5,000 feet (about 1,500 meters) long -- and the lift line, when there is one, moves quickly because Ramcharger 8 can transport 3,200 skiers per hour or about 25 percent more people than the old Ramcharger four-seater, which was moved to another part of the mountain.
As chairlifts go, it's about as luxurious an experience as you'll encounter. A moving loading carpet, which an operator can raise for smaller children with a press of a button, guides you into the boarding zone. Once in the chair, you'll notice that there are eight individual headrests and footrests and the seats are heated (an operator can adjust the heat level according to the weather).
If you want some protection from the wind and cold -- it is designed to operate in high winds -- you can pull the blue bubble over the chair and make yourself feel like you're in a translucent cocoon. Both the bubble and restraining bar/footrests automatically rise just before you reach your destination. Something that Hunter Mtn Probably Never Ever Will Be Able To Afford. 🤔😲😞😞😧😭🤷‍♂️.

That sounds great, I’d love to go to big sky. I don’t think you can really compare to Hunter though, Hunter is just a little resort in the Catskills. Small beans compared to stuff out west, probably no point having the most up to date lifts, since there are only a few trails

Yes you can’t friggin compare Hunter to Big Sky. But Hunter has 3 high speed chairs btw. The main 6, north side 6, west side 4. Within a little over two hours drive from that awful place NYC, it is the best mountain most challenging in a 3 hour radius. Vermont is next. All the other areas, especially Poconos are tiny in comparison. Hunter has a Few 1100 foot constant vertical black diamonds. Not like many areas with 5 turns then a long runout. But keep it all under your hat because weekends it’s madness and you have to ski like entering an ice rink, get in with the flow or it tramples you.
